Cybelesays Special Report on The Makeup Show 2011

The Oscars were not the only thing to rumble through Los Angeles last weekend. The Makeup Show made its way into the city and while some of the usual brands made their appearance, there was one big brand debut whose attendance was a shocker.

Know Your (Perfume) Notes!

There was a great article in InStyle’s recent Makeover magazine about why one scent will appease one and turn off another. It’s by Faye Penn and got me thinking - what draws you to a fragrance? The name? The shape of the bottle and packaging? Both? When it comes down to it, you really have to have a connection to the notes and if there’s one thing I have learned over the years in trying out all kinds of fragrances, you really have to know your notes. Go grab your favorite fragrances off your vanity and do a google search to find out what notes are inside them. See if there is a pattern. There will probably be vastly different ones depending if you wear it for day or night. Just something to think about as there are so many to choose from these days  and more coming out every day or so it seems.

YSL-Parisienne

One that is hitting the spot for me right now is YVES SAINT LAURENT or YSL’s new Parisienne Eau de Parfum Spray. It’s a woody floral, which I found out here I am a fan of. Who knew?? You’ll sniff notes like blackberry, cranberry, peony, damask rose and sandalwood. What stands out by far with this one is the rose. I’m declaring this a true rose fragrance so if you are a fan, check this one. $39/1oz, $65/1.6oz, $85/3.5oz, $40/6.6oz Perfumed Body Lotion @ nordstrom.com.

Timelessness Is Next To Godliness

What makes a true classic is the timelessness that a product takes on. And scents are in a category all their own when it comes to the term. My Godfather gave me Ysl YVES SAINT LAURENT Paris Eau de Parfum ($88/2.5oz @ yslbeautyus.com) this past Christmas and I'm quite glad he did. I never really thought much seeing the oval glass bottle on many-a-beauty tables over the years but since this one turned me on I will now start asking why and run to try each I come across.
And for some reason this one really seems to bond with my skin. Hours later I can still subtly smell the warm floral and touch of wood and powder.
I take this as a sign that it should be a staple in my collection because it works with my chemistry. There’s also a Paris Perfumed Body Lotion ($44/6.6oz).
