Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel & Precleanse

Dermalogica-Special-Cleansing-Gel-and-Precleanse
Have you heard of double cleansing yet? It’s funny because I didn’t even know the process had a name. I mean, you remove your makeup and then you wash your face right? Well the process is now known as double cleansing.

When I first heard the name (before the definition) I thought, wow, this is really going to overdo it on the face, no? But it actually doesn’t and I think it better for your skin in the long haul.

Removing makeup will also get rid of dirt, sebum and anything else hanging around that shouldn’t be there. And then you have a bare canvas to give a cleaning to. Makes sense, right?

Paula's Choice DEFENSE Collection

Paula's-Choice-DEFENSE-Skin-Care-Collection
I’ve been thinking a lot about skin care lately as my skin seems to be on a good plateau right now, which is great. My regimen the past year is working and keeping it all in balance. My hormonal acne around my jawline has stopped, and my skin doesn’t seem overly dry. It’s funny because I love any kind of special treatments and skin care gadgets, so I’ve been thinking I might want to incorporate a new one into my routine. Then, I look in the mirror and think, “why mess with what I have going on?”

I recently spoke with the owner of Doll Face Skincare Studios, Lila Castellanos, about what we should all be doing when it comes to skin care and she said, “The two most important parts of any daily skincare routine are skin cleansing and exfoliation, both of which are vital to proper skin care. The first step is removing makeup with remover or an oil-based cream. Follow with a cleanser that is well-suited for your skin type.

Exfoliation involves rubbing the skin with an exfoliator or scrub in order to get rid of dry and dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. It’s considered one of the most important aspects of any skincare routine because it helps prevent many skin problems while increasing blood circulation, equating to healthy and glowing skin.” Woo-hoo! I’m on the right track then. I usually use a chemical exfoliator in the shower a few times a week and of course I fully wash my face at the end of each day, so good to know that I’m doing the right things.

Overnight Face Masks from Fresh & SK-II

Fresh-Black-Tea-Firming-Overnight-Mask-and-SK-II-Overnight-Miracle-Mask
Overnight Masks? Yup, it’s a thing that’s been around for a few now and they have quite a few benefits and I’m a total fan these days. I have to admit, when I first heard of them a few years ago all I thought was, “Doesn’t the mask get all over the pillowcase?” Ummm, not really. I mean, you don’t apply it and then jump right into bed. The ones I’ve tried seem to sink in rather quickly but even if some did get on the pillowcase, it’s just a pillowcase and can be washed, right?

So what are these for?

Cleansing Balms from Emma Hardie & Botanic Farm

Emma-Hardie-Moringa-Cleansing-Balm-and-Botanic-Farm-Grain-Ferment

One of my favorite products to try out these days is cleansing balms. I love how they start out as a solid and then break down into an oil or milky liquid when emulsified between my hands. The latest ones I’m putting at the top of my list are these two:

EMMA HARDIE Moringa Cleansing Balm with Cleansing Cloth ($60/3.52oz @ emmahardie.com)

What It Is: A luxurious botanical cleansing balm that removes all traces of makeup. It doubles as a soothing and softening mask and universal rescue balm. Moringa seeds, wild fennel and vitamin E help to balance, purify and minimize the appearance of open pores, whilst a blend of uplifting orange, neroli and mandarin extracts combined with calming jasmine and rose to revitalize, dull, dry, dehydrated and mature skin.

Superfood Face Care from Lather

Lather-Caviar-Lime-AHA-Cleansing-Creme-and-Australian-Plum-Night-Creme

The word superfood is everywhere these days, in the obvious place, foods, but it’s also cropped up in skin care like in these two from the LATHER brand. Now I expect a lot out of my skin care products that I use. Multi-tasking is the name of the game!

I’ve been using their Caviar Lime AHA Cleansing Crème ($21/4oz @ lather.com) and the Australian Plum Night Crème ($43/1.8oz @ lather.com) for the past 6 weeks and I think the brand is onto something with these two.

Here’s the breakdown:

Caviar Lime AHA Cleansing CrèmeWhat it is

Reveal a smoother, brighter and more even-looking complexion with this luxurious and creamy foaming cleanser infused with Caviar Lime, a small yet powerful citrus fruit from Australia. Also known as Finger Lime or Microcitrus Australasica, Caviar Lime is especially rich in precious alpha hydroxy acids that gently exfoliate the skin’s surface to reveal more supple and radiant skin. The fruit also contains brightening, skin-protecting antioxidant Vitamin C.

With the addition of water, the thick cream transforms into a velvety soft mousse to sweep away dirt, excess oil and makeup. The formulation is enriched with nourishing botanicals that include meadowfoam seed oil, an excellent source of Vitamin E, and sodium hyaluronate (from hyaluronic acid) to keep skin’s moisture in balance.

Ciate Dewy Spritz

Ciate-Dewy-Spritz-on-table
Who doesn’t love a nice spritz on the face when it’s hot out? How about if it adds some benefits like priming and setting makeup? That’s what you get with CIATE’s new Dewy Spritz ($25/4.22oz @ ciatelondon.com, sephora.com). I’ve always been a big fan of sprays when the temps go out and I like to keep them in the frig to so they’re cool going on.
