Get Acquainted With … Argan Oil

I’m starting a new on-going feature here on the site called Get Acquainted With … where I spotlight a brand, ingredient or trend I think you should be aware of. First up is Argania Spinosa Kernal Oil, also known as Argan Oil. Argan Oil is a plant oil produced from the kernals of the argan tree that is andemic to Morocco. It can be used to help heal burns, in foods like to dip breads and on salads. In beauty it is known for its super moisturizing properties, to help with juvenile acne and of course in hair and body products. Source:

Here are some that use it in beauty products:

1. YES TO BLUEBERRIES Face & Neck Oil $15.99/1oz @

2. BOTANIC ORGANIC Pomegranate & Argan Antioxidant Serum $30/1oz @

3. DERMORGANIC Leave-In Spray Therapy $19.99/3.4oz @

4. NAIR 'Shower Power' Max with Moroccan Argan Oil $8.99/13oz @

5. HERBAL ESSENCES Moroccan My Shine Nourishing Shampoo and Nourishing Conditioner $4.49/10.1oz each @

Now if you just want to cut out all the other ingredients like silicones and others that can be found in the above products and just get to the nitty-gritty, there are quite a few companies that make 100% Pure Argan Oil:

1. JOSIE MARAN 100 Percent Pure Argan Oil $16/.5oz, $48/1.7oz, $96/5oz @

2. ACURE ORGANICS 100% Certified Organic Argan Oil $14.99/1oz @

3. SHEA TERRA ORGANICS 100% Organic Moroccan Argan Oil $24/2oz @

Shea Terra Organics for All Over Body

Shea-Terra-Cape-Aloe I remember back in the 80’s going to punk rock shows and seeing the straight edge guys with the big Sharpie X’s across the back of each hand. And this wasn’t at one show here or there, this was at every show and come to find out, those big X’s graced the back of their hands every day. I didn’t think of it until recently but just think of that ink being absorbed into their skin on a daily basis. What’s even in a Sharpie? And now I come to this thought – whatever you put on your skin goes into your system so don’t you want to make it the best it can be?

One I know that falls into the all-around-safe category is SHEA TERRA’s Cape Aloe Soothing Shea Butter Crème ($22/9oz @ I simply love this line and here’s why I’m jumping on this bandwagon. This product is made with 30% organic Shea Butter and  20% Cape aloe. What is Cape aloe? It’s a medicinal herb from South Africa and used to treat many different ailments but also for its anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties. I wonder why I have never heard of this herb until now? Anyway, not only can this one be used as a straight up super body moisturizer but they also tout it as useful for jellyfish stings, minor cuts, and even sun burns.

Shea Terra Premium Dark Chocolate Exfoliating Cream

Shea-Terra-Premium-Dark-Chocolate-Sugar-Stone-Exfoliating-Cream How have I missed out on the SHEA TERRA ORGANICS line for this long? I think this scrub marks the closest I have ever gotten to an edible scrub! Seriously! And yes, I did taste it and I could have eaten it as a dessert, it tasted that good overall. But ok, I’ll use it as it’s supposed to be used.

The product is their Premium Dark Chocolate Sugar-Stone Exfoliating Cream ($22/9oz @ and is 99.7% natural. What does that mean? Here are the ingredients: pure spring water, chocolate liquor, organic Shea Butter, natural emulsifying wax, organic sugar, pumice, all natural vanilla extract and a naturally-based preservative called glucono delta-lactone and sodium benzoate. That’s it! And you won’t find any sulfates, parabens or artificial fragrances or colors in this one any of their other products.

As you have probably heard, chocolate is full of antioxidants and can be good for the skin. And this stuff is thick with not much run off (not watery) so know that a little goes a long way.
