Vinegar Hair Rinses from Pureology and Redken

Redken-Color-Extend-Vinegar-Rinse-Pureology-Vinegar-Hair-Rinse
I use vinegar to clear a lot of things around my house but I never really thought of it for beauty, until now. These two here contain apple cider vinegar to soften color-treated strands as well as give strands a boost in freshness and balances the hair’s pH.  Since I’m hesitant to use any kind of clarifying shampoo on my colored-hair, these are completely safe to use on it as they also remove build-up and won’t strip it.

Just squeeze out excess water after shampooing, squirt some on, rinse, and then apply conditioner as usual.

Micellar Technology Enters the Hair Care Category with Redken

Redken-Clean Maniac Micellar-Shampoo

By now we’ve all heard of the glory that is micellar water and products. How did we ever exist without it all these years? Well, we’re at phase 2 now with other types of products coming out that use it like this one from REDKEN. It’s their Clean Maniac Micellar Clean Touch Shampoo.

As you may recall, tiny micelles inside a product act like a magnet and attach itself to dirt, oils and even odors to make them easier to remove. So it only seems obvious to use it in hair care products, right?

And they claim that this is gentler on strands than a clarifying shampoo, can be used everyday and using this won’t harm your bottle/salon hair color. Check, check and checkmate!

Pick it up for $19/10.1oz, $34/33.8oz @ ulta.com and they also offer a conditioner and styling products in the collection. Is this something you are interested in trying out?

This Is Your Hair Mask Answer!

Redken-Color-Extend-Magnetics-Mega-Mask
Even though I mostly feel quite inept when it comes to styling my hair, I do know a good conditioner and when I try one. The latest one from REDKEN is their Color Extend Magnetics Mega Mask ($29/6.8oz @ ulta.com) and this is serious one. So serious that it contains two products in one … as in, there is a separate tube of product inside the overall container, which you can see!

I mean, we are all quite familiar with multi-masking when it comes to the face so why not the hair? This deep treatment does its magic on towel-dried hair in 3-5 minutes and they claim the benefits will last up to 3 washes. And this one contains their new RCT (root, core, tip) protein complex, which nourishes each strand from the root to the end. And I think I can actually feel it. I mean, while the extended care and conditioning is great, what I am coming back for with this one is how smooth and soft this left my hair and zero tangles. A miracle!

Redken Creates the All-In-One for Hair

Redken-One-United-All-In-One-Multi-Benefit-TreatmentBy now we’ve all seen multi-tasking face products like BB and CC creams, but I can’t recall too many ones for hair. Leave it to REDKEN to put out one that does it all. One United is an all-in-one multi-tasker that’s made for all different hair types.

And they’re claiming 25 benefits in all like preventing split ends, protecting from heat tools (an ingredient  inside called Kera-Care), controls frizz, safe for color-treated hair, considered a hair primer, and a detangler (from their Cationic Complex), among others.

And this one can be used a few different ways – alone after cleansing or to refresh between washes, as a leave-in-treatment, or as a styling product. Personally I prefer the last one as I’m always cautious of using multiple hair styling products on my hair before blow drying for the fear of not only weighing it down but also making it greasy, both of which have happened!

5 Favorite ... Star Hair Products

5-Favorite-...-Star-Hair-Products

From L to R clockwise:

PUREOLOGY Cleansing Condition ($34/8.5oz @ walgreens.com) – just out, these  come in 3 different formulas to  suit your hair’s needs – Hydrate, Smooth Perfection and Strength Cure. These combine a shampoo + conditioner in one low-lather concoction to clean your strands and(it) maintain your salon color.

NUANCE Salma Hayek Mamey Fruit Texture Enhancing Finishing Spray ($9.99/5oz @ nuancesalmahayek.com) – like the above salt spray, this one gives hair some texture as well as keep it in place. One outlet called it a cross between a dry shampoo and a volumizer. It contains oat extracts to give softness to the texture and Mamey Fruit Extract, which is rich in vitamins and minerals.

REDKEN FPF 40 Rebel Tame ($22/8.5oz @ amazon.com) – I love me a smoothing cream and this one goes one step further. Part of the Frizz Dismiss collection, this is their answer to the humidity in the air as all 7 products contain their Humidity Resist Complex.

SUAVE Sea Mineral Infusion Sea Salt Spray ($5.99/6.8oz @ suave.com) – tis the season for sea salt textured locks! If you can’t make your own from sea water, this one does fine and won’t break the bank.

AVEDA Color Conserve Daily Color Protect ($24/3.4oz @ amazon.com) – I’ll do just about anything to preserve my burgundy red hair and this is a new one I’ve incorporated into my hair regimen. This leave-in treatment contains their patented Color Conserve Complex to triple-protect strands. Triple? Yup, that’s what the brand says. It also protects against UVA/UVB rays, which I think we underestimate when it comes to also causing color fading.

You NEED These DeFrizz Products!

It’s as humid has humid can be out here in SoCal and strands are just not behaving but who wants to wear their hair up all the time? Yes, it feels good on the neck but I just got a cute new cut that I want to show off so a serious defrizz product is in order! Check out the below recommendations to rock you do to the fullest this month.

Defrizz-Me-with-These

YES TO COCONUTS Curl Defining Hair Smoother ($7.99/3.8oz @ target.com) – choose this one because it has nourishing avocado and coconut oil plus Cupuacu Butter.

HERBAL ESSENCES Moroccan Me a Miracle 7-in-1 Serum ($4.49/1.7oz @ bedbathandbeyond.com) – this one is the case of, “if it smells good, it must be good,” and in this case, it’s true.

L’OREAL EverSleek Sulfate-Free Smoothing System Frizz Taming Crème Serum ($8.99/1.9oz @ lorealparis.com, walgreens.com and drugstores nationwide) – I’ve never heard of sulfates inside a frizz-taming serum but as we all know, ingredients can disguise  themselves under other loooong names.

SALLY HERSHBERGER Hyper Hydration Spray Serum ($12.99/1.7oz @ drugstore.com) – this is the only one outta the bunch that you use after hair is dry. It uses SMART Keratin to give hair shine with no, and I mean none what-so-ever, greasy look or feel.

KARECO Large Thermal Brush ($22.50 @ kareco.com) – yes believe it or not the right brush can also help cut the frizz. This one is made with Ionic Tourmaline technology so this one coupled with one of these serums will leave your hair smooth as a baby’s bottom!

Or, if you’re like me and just tend to wash your hair less in the summertime so I don’t have to whip out the hot dryer, so these two from REDKEN have been my go to ones lately:

Redken-Pillow-Proof-Blow-Dry-Express-Two-Day-Extender-and-Express-Primer

Pillow Proof Blow Dry Two Day Extender ($18/3.4oz) and Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Primer ($22/4.7oz). Both @ drugstore.com.

This Product Gives Me the Heebie-Jeebies

I’ve often shared the fact the most lip glosses make my lips feel suffocated. I don’t think this is a serious issue, or maybe I do have issues! In my defense, it’s really the only category that makes me feel physically uncomfortable, well, in addition to this next one, which I’ve never talked about until now.

So which other beauty product gives me the heebie-jeebies?? Click after the jump to find out!

5 Favorite … Hair Helpers

5-Favorite-...-Hair-Helpers
1.
KERASTASE Forme Fatale Voluptuous Blow-Dry Gel ($35/4.2oz, $182.1oz @ kerastase-usa.com) – for some reason I’ve been into having quite big hair these days and since I’m not that great at teasing my hair (it just doesn’t last!), I’ve been relying on this blow-dry gel to get me there and it has the bonus of UV and heat protection.

2. SCHWARZKOPF Igora Expert Mousse ($13.95/3.2oz @ schwarzkopf-professionalusa.com) - give your current color a kick with this one. This colour mousse lasts up to 8 washes and is super easy to use – just apply to towel-dried hair, leave on about 20 minutes and jump back in the shower and rinse. My color is 5-88 (light brown red extra) and it gives my hair just the right amount of boost without the commitment. Choose from different 13 shades!

3. SALLY HERSHBERGER 3-in-1 Volumizing Spray ($12.99/8.5oz @ amazon.com) – Since I want to keep my red hair red for longer than a few weeks, I rely on dry shampoos a lot. And this new one is infused with caffeine so I guess you could say it really gets my hair moving! Ok, not that funny but this does give strands some volume and texture to get you through the day.

4. FROM THE LAB Transforming Hair Cleanser No. 724 ($19.95/5oz @ fromthelab.com) – this one is 180 degrees from what you’re used to using on your hair in the shower. First, it doesn’t lather up, which might not be comfortable for some people but I’m telling you, the final results are worth it. It uses raspberry stem cell extract (to nourish the scalp), Andiroba Oil (for its omega-3 fatty acids), vitamin E, Castor Seed and Almond oils to do all the work – shampoo, condition and detangle. Yup, all in one!

5. REDKEN Move Ability 05 from the New Flex Collection ($19/1.7oz @ amazon.com) – I’ve often been tempted to cut off all my hair just so I can use all the pomades, waxes and sculpting gels out there but, sigh, I like it long. But with this Move Ability 05, I don’t have to! It’s a light cream-paste that I’ve been using to define the ends of my hair after blow drying.

Diamonds for the Hair? Yes, Redken!

Seems like a lot of the hair oils out there are just a bunch of silicones, which aren’t bad, and at the end of the ingredient list you’ll find the argan oil the product is named after. So I’ve become skeptical. I must say though, the copper box and container of REDKEN’s Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine Intense really had me intrigued! So fancy that it just has to work, right? The old beauty adage, “if it smells/looks good, it must be good,” right?

The first place my eyes went when I received this in the mail after oooing and aahhhing at the aforementioned in my head was the ingredient list, of course.

Redken-Diamond-Oil-main

Helianthus Annus Seed Oil/Sunflower Seed Oil, Isopropyl Myristate (an alcohol that can be irritating to the scalp), Olea Europaea Oil/Olive Fruit Oil, Octyldodecanol (a skin conditioning agent), Simmondsia Chinensis Oil/Jojoba Seed Oil, Cocos Nucifera Oil/Coconut Oil and so on (see photo just below for full list). Yes, this does contain a man-made fragrance, so if you find yourself allergic or don’t like products with synthetic fragrances, you may want to skip this.

Redken-Diamond-Oil-ingredie

BUT, if performance is your thing, read on …

As I mentioned before, most hair oils are nothing but silicones but this one doesn’t contain any ... maybe one of the ones towards the end of the ingredient list acts like one but isn’t considered one? Things that make you go hmmm…

Anyway, with the many good ingredients this one contains, it can be used in a few ways – a pre-shampoo treatment, a few drops before blow drying or as a polish to tame flyaways.

What you should also know is that it contains their own Shine Strong Complex, which is an infused blend of some of the other oils in the formula, coriander, camelina, and apricot, to seal in moisture and give hair lots of shine and who’s hair doesn’t need that?

Read more about it @ amazon.comwalgreens.com, or pick it up for $40/3.4oz at salons nationwide.

If You Use Hot Hair Tools, You Need This!

Redken-Iron-Shape-11We’re all familiar with thermal protecting sprays for the hair for when using a hair dryer but now here comes one that is for use with hot tools. It’s REDKEN’s Iron Shape 11 that will protect your strands from a curling iron or flat iron up to 450°.

This is part of their Heat Styling Collection and great for misting on hair just before using one of the above tools. What’s unique about it is their Heatguard Complex, which prevents heat damage and ceramides to help you get a smooth, frizz-free finish, and also cranberry oil to help condition the hair as you heat it up.

And unlike this one, which can leave some residue if I'm not paying attention and spray on too much, this one doesn’t leave any sticky or tacky feel behind. So think of it as a "diet" version or "lite" version of it. $19/8.5oz @ ulta.comamazon.com
