Vinegar Hair Rinses from Pureology and Redken

Redken-Color-Extend-Vinegar-Rinse-Pureology-Vinegar-Hair-Rinse
I use vinegar to clear a lot of things around my house but I never really thought of it for beauty, until now. These two here contain apple cider vinegar to soften color-treated strands as well as give strands a boost in freshness and balances the hair’s pH.  Since I’m hesitant to use any kind of clarifying shampoo on my colored-hair, these are completely safe to use on it as they also remove build-up and won’t strip it.

Just squeeze out excess water after shampooing, squirt some on, rinse, and then apply conditioner as usual.

Superfood for Hair from Pureology

Pureology-Superfood-Hydrate

Pureology-Superfood-Hydrate-on-shelf

Lotta buzz around the word ‘superfood’ lately, or at least on my blog, and we have one here for the hair. When I think of superfood, I don’t really think of something for the strands but it makes sense but the PUREOLOGY brand has come out with their definition of it with these two Superfood Treatments for hair. One is the Hydrate Superfood Treatment and the other is Strength Cure Superfood Treatment.

Both are vegan and silicone-free and great for this time of year.

Pureology-Superfood-Hydrate-and-Strength-Cure-Superfood-Treatment

  • Hydratemade with coconut and avocado oils to nourish hair with moisture.
  • Strength Cure made with goji berry extract oil to protect and olive oil for smoothness and shine.

And these only require 5 minutes in the hair to do their work! While these didn’t do much when it came to detangling, it really made my hair soft and it just felt healthier overall. Like all Pureology products, these are made just for those who color-treat their hair.

$44/6oz each @ pureology.com, ulta.com.

5 Favorite ... Star Hair Products

5-Favorite-...-Star-Hair-Products

From L to R clockwise:

PUREOLOGY Cleansing Condition ($34/8.5oz @ walgreens.com) – just out, these  come in 3 different formulas to  suit your hair’s needs – Hydrate, Smooth Perfection and Strength Cure. These combine a shampoo + conditioner in one low-lather concoction to clean your strands and(it) maintain your salon color.

NUANCE Salma Hayek Mamey Fruit Texture Enhancing Finishing Spray ($9.99/5oz @ nuancesalmahayek.com) – like the above salt spray, this one gives hair some texture as well as keep it in place. One outlet called it a cross between a dry shampoo and a volumizer. It contains oat extracts to give softness to the texture and Mamey Fruit Extract, which is rich in vitamins and minerals.

REDKEN FPF 40 Rebel Tame ($22/8.5oz @ amazon.com) – I love me a smoothing cream and this one goes one step further. Part of the Frizz Dismiss collection, this is their answer to the humidity in the air as all 7 products contain their Humidity Resist Complex.

SUAVE Sea Mineral Infusion Sea Salt Spray ($5.99/6.8oz @ suave.com) – tis the season for sea salt textured locks! If you can’t make your own from sea water, this one does fine and won’t break the bank.

AVEDA Color Conserve Daily Color Protect ($24/3.4oz @ amazon.com) – I’ll do just about anything to preserve my burgundy red hair and this is a new one I’ve incorporated into my hair regimen. This leave-in treatment contains their patented Color Conserve Complex to triple-protect strands. Triple? Yup, that’s what the brand says. It also protects against UVA/UVB rays, which I think we underestimate when it comes to also causing color fading.

What I’m Loving Right … Now!

What-I'm-Loving-Right-...-Now!
Face Love
- JOUER COSMETICS Essentials Matte Touch ($26 @ jouercosmetics.com) – It’s officially the season of shiny faces, so make sure you carry a translucent mattifier with you at all times. This one from Jouer really absorbs oil and contains good-for-skin ingredients like vitamins C, D & E and Willow Bark Extract.

Wipe Love - TARTE ‘Fresh Eyes’ Maracuja Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover Wipes ($12/30 wipes @ qvc.com) – I love me some face wipes and it was only a matter of time before our tarte friends came out with some. These combine maracuja with fruit extracts to fully remove makeup and nourish the skin.

Body Love - THE GRAPESEED CO Custom Lotion in Mama’s Blend ($22/8oz @ grapeseedco.com) – While I prefer a body oil to a lotion these days, I’m simply loving this lotion in grapeseed, aloe & coconut! And it’s made with quality ingredients. Make your own custom lotion with their rich vinotherapy body lotion and you can even choose your own name and bottle color.

Hair Love - PUREOLOGY ‘Strength Cure’ Restorative Masque ($50/5.2oz @ walgreens.com) – No matter what month the calendar says, my strands always seems in need of a hair mask. This latest mask from one of my favorite hair care lines fortifies strands with Asta-Repair including Astaxanthin, a powerful antioxidant, which  reduces breakage of micro-scarred/damaged color-treated hair.

Fragrance Love - RAW SPIRIT Wild Fire EDP ($35/7.5ml rollerball @ rawspiritfragrances.com) – this warm scent pays tribute to one of the founder’s native land of Australia with sandalwood, creamy amber along with ylang ylang, jasmine on a base of musk and cedarwood. Really nice.

The 3 Best Multitasking Beauty Products of 2013

We’ve all read about the best multi-taskers there are out there when it comes to beauty but most of the lists I’ve seen list products that maybe take care of two or three things, not truly multi. So here are some that really are MULTI!!

The-Best-Multi-Taskers-of-2013

1. PUREOLOGY Colour Fanatic ($24/6.7oz @ ulta.com) – where do I start?? This 100% Vegan product protects against heat, environmental damage and color fading, controls frizz and is a great leave-in conditioner, among other things; 21 things specifically.

2. TARTE BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen ($34/1oz @ ulta.comamazon.com) – it’s a face primer, so it makes your foundation or tinted moisturizer last longer; it’s tinted so ixnay what I said previously! No extra color needed (comes in 4 shades). This one includes anti-aging ingredients in the formula; has UVA/UVB blocker of SPF 30. No pitiful 15 here, baby, and it’s quite moisturizing.

3. JOSIE MARAN Argan Balm ($42/4.6oz @ qvc.com) – I adore a balm because of their multi-tasking-ness (yes, that’s a new word!). And this one is no exception and it is heavy in the argan oil. Use it on cuticles, to defrizz hair, dry spots on the skin, lips and I even use it on my heels before I go to bed.

Pureology Precious Oil System

I really liked PUREOLOGY’s Precious Oil recently but little did I know they would base a whole collection around it called, easy enough, the Precious Oil System.

It’s comprised of a Precious Oil Shamp’Oil ($29/8.5oz), Precious Oil Conditioner ($29/8.5oz), Precious Oil Softening Hair Masque ($50/5.2oz) and the aforementioned Precious Oil Versatile Caring Oil ($40/4.2oz, $12/1oz).

Pureology-Precious-Oil-Hair-CollectionThe standout product from this line up is the unique Shamp’Oil. First, it’s infused with oil, it contains zero sulfates, like the rest of the line, and this one has a unique delivery system. It’s able to deeply penetrate each strand 4x’s more than the average shampoo to nourish from the inside out. It reminds me of some skin care lines that use nano-peptides to deliver the ingredients deeply into the skin. So I guess it was only a matter of time before the hair care companies started using the technology.

And did I mention the pleasant scent lasted in my strands well into the next day? Now that's rare. Love these products!

And on a side note, when did the brand change out their packaging to these stubby bottles? I like them but they are just so different from the graceful giraffe-like bottles they used since the beginning of the brand. All @ walgreens.com

Pureology Precious Oil

The PUREOLOGY line is one of my favorite hair care lines out there as their products seem to always break new ground. Take this latest product, the Precious Oil Versitile Caring Oil. It has a lot going for it, so much so that I will list it!

  • First ever Green Seal certified beauty product.
  • 100% biodegradable, silicon and paraben-free oil.
  • Features oils from Sunflower, coconut, olive, and jojoba.
  • Contains their exclusive oil-based OleoAntiFadeComplex made to amp up color-treated strands.

Pureology-Precious-OilAnd I love the versatility of this one as it can be used many different ways, depending on your hair type – a few drops on dry hair before shampooing, as a finishing serum for after blow-drying and my favorite way, a few drops through towel-dried hair before the blow-dry.

And because the whole line is made for those with color-treated hair, you don’t have to worry about color fade or unevenness.

So how does this Green Seal play into this product? They have pretty strict standards so this is a big deal and means that this product and its packaging and ingredients have a minimal environmental impact, imparts the highest health and safety standards, has outstanding quality and performance, among other traits I mentioned above.

So how does this one feel in my hair? Really nice and my thing with the onslaught of these hair oils has come down to the ingredients and most are just silicones. This one? It open with Sunflower Seed Oil and showcases more oils down from their. Yeah! Finally, someone gets it. $28/4.2oz @ pureology.com for salons nationwide.

Fall Product Standouts – Hair

Falll-2011-Beauty-Pick-logo

Fall-2011-Hair-Product-Picks My hair is all over the place right now; this in-between season always seems to wreak havoc on my strands. Does it need more moisture? Maybe not use the blow dryer so often? I’m not really sure but these below three seem to be helping me keep is steady Freddie until the cold comes on.

NEXXUS Color Assure Radiant Color Care Leave-in Conditioning Spray ($14.99/10.1oz @ target.com) – I’ve learned the hard way that not all leave-in conditioners are created equal. This one uses grapefruit extract, coconut oil, and honey extract to add extra moisture to strands to keep hair color longer.

PUREOLOGY ColorStylists Antibreakage Twist ($24/2.5oz @ target.com) – one of two new products just added to their ColourStylist line, this paste provide a mild hold and texture and totally safe for color-treated strands.

DAVINES OI/OIL ($39/4.56oz @ amazon.com) – I’m a huge fan of hair oils and this one seems like the next generation of them. It’s pretty light and its main oil comes from a beta-carotene and antioxidant-rich Roucou Oil.

The Latest In Hair Styling Products

Pureology-LivingProof-IT&LY PUREOLOGY just put out their Colour Stylist line, which are styling products for color-treated hair. Seems like there should be more of these available for the average person, right? Each of the 6 products contains their patented AntiFade Complex with Keravis, which is a hair fortifier to protect the hair from breaking and they each smell like their signature vanilla, rose and Mandarin Orange scent. Mmm. Product pick – Colour Stylist FortifyingHeatSpray - $22/6oz @ target.com.

LIVING PROOF just came out with a new Full line of products aimed at, well, exactly what you think, fuller hair!  And the Root Lifting Spray from the latest collection, called Full, is really rocking my hair right now and giving me some lift just where you think. Maybe it’s the PolyfluoroEster ingredient inside because I’ve tried a few root lifting sprays and they’ve only been ok but this one? I give it two thumbs up – it not only makes the hair strong but it also lasts in the hair. $24/5.5oz @ sephora.com.

The IT&LY HAIRFASHION line is a new one to the site and was used on the set of Sex and the City 2 and Gossip Girl, so you know it must come with some hipness to it. I don’t use many of those shine serums as they seem to just make my hair greasy but their Purity Design Pure Water Drops don’t seem to grease up my strands than polish them and make them a tad piece-y and it smells like sandalwood. Nice touch. $32.49/1.7oz @ amazon.com.

Pureology Puts Out Another Winning Collection

Out this month is a new collection from one of my favorite all time hair brands, PUREOLOGY. The SuperSmooth products are made with a new heat-protective ThermalAntiFadeComplex (they sure love to run their words together!!) and as far as I’m concerned, this is the brand that perfected the color support hair products. This collection of four products contains oils of camellia and sesame and organic Shea Butter to not only smooth out and but replenish and strengthen the hair.

And I’m loving that they have branched out into the world of aromatherapy notes by including notes of raspberry, jasmine and chocolate powder in these products. I don’t remember them doing this before part with other collections but they smell fab.

SuperSmooth Shampoo: Cleanse ($27/10.1oz)
SuperSmooth HairCondition: Condition & Detangle
($27/8.5oz)
SuperSmooth SmoothingElixir: Fortify
($24/2.5oz)
SuperSmooth RelaxingHairMasque: Nourish
($50/5.1oz)

All @ walgreens.com.
