So we’re a few weeks into the New Year. Did you make any resolutions? I don’t really make them, or rather, don’t call them resolutions. The new Hydro Boost collection makeup items can all be found at Walmart stores and each are infused with Hyaluronic Acid to help with hydration as well as plump it up. As serious as the name sounds, Hyaluronic Acid is normally found in the structure of the skin, as well as joints, but as we age, the skin has a harder time being able to retain that moisture, so these products give skin the help it needs.

Here is a breakdown of each product:

Hydro Boost Water Gel – boost the hydration and locks it in so your skin will look great under makeup. And this has a SPF 15 inside and it smells so fresh and clean!

Hydro Boost Hydrating Tint – plumps skin and boost hydration with this medium coverage tint. Oil-free and non-comedogenic.

Hydro Boost Hydrating Concealer – under my eyes is where I can always use some extra moisture! And this one doesn’t settle into any of the lines.

Hydro Boost Hydrating Lip Shine – non-sticky and makes my lips feel totally moisturized with a hint of tint. Shown here in Deep Cherry.

NEUTROGENA Norwegian Formula Hand Cream ($3.59/2oz @ target.com, amazon.com) – if this is the way the Norwegians do hand cream, I’m totally in! This is not like any other hand “cream” I have ever used. And it’s not really even a hand cream. It’s more of a thick salve or ointment that seems to stay on the skin for a while but not in a greasy way but more in a protective way. This one is getting my hands through the winter weather.

NARS Cinematic Lipstick in Short Circuit from the Guy Bourdin Holiday Collection ($26 @ sephora.com) - If bright lippies are your thing, this is a great orange-red that I’ve been wearing for the past week straight. Things are cold and drab right now so why not perk up with this hot shade?  And it so catches me off guard during the day that when I walk past a mirror and catch a glimpse, I almost don’t think it’s me in the reflection!

PIXI BEAUTY Glow Tonic ($29/8.5oz @ dermstore.com, pixibeauty.com and amazon.com) – this is a brand new area for the brand and if this is any indication of the quality of what they’ll be putting out, I’m in! It’s an alcohol-free toner that exfoliates using 5% glycolic acid and nourishes it with aloe, witch hazel, hose chestnut extracts and ginseng.

GOURMET BODY PASTRIES Sweet Tarts Candy Whipped Shea Butter ($12/4oz, $21/8oz @ gourmetbodypastries.com) – I’m so not into dessert smelling body products so I’m glad that this brand makes some for us like this Sweet Tarts one. Yum! Smells great and it works even better on the skin and uses just a few ingredients – oils of olive, coconut, almonds and vitamin E as well as Shea Butter, aloe and vegetable glycerin. That’s it! Love this kind of brand.

At this point I thought once I’d seen one of the tinted lippies, I’d seen them all but wow, was I wrong!

NEUTROGENA’s addition to the category is MoistureSmooth Color Stick and not only do these moisturize, give a great hint o color but they smell pleasantly of a light peach. Nice addition Neutrogena! And they claim that your lips will reach a sort of lip nirvana in 3 days with smoothness and softness than before you started using them.

As you can see from the below photos, I have used this quite a bit and the color and moisture lasts on lips for quite a few hours. Love!

Have you ever heard of a buildable mascara? Like being able to apply more after it sets? My experience is that you pretty much can’t update it again … until now! I wouldn’t have believed it if I didn’t experience it but this new Healthy Lengths Mascara from NEUTROGENA.

Now I’m pretty set with my go-to mascara here but this one kinda threw me, in a good way! I really let each layer dry before applying another and I noticed instead of my lashes acting like hardened spikes of wheat, they were instead pliable and open to accepting more layers of this on them. I got 4 layers and they look quite nice!

Now, the downside. While it lasts on lashes if you don’t touch them, as soon as water touches them, off it starts to come. So forget about wearing this to a wedding or if you see a sad commercial. Here is my idea -  wear it to work and then when you have another place at night to go, layer on some waterproof or other mascara that will set it. The finished lashes look so good that this trait is such a bummer.

My 2 year-old niece, Collette, is really into swimming these days and I’m always concerned about the sun when she’s in the pool with her delicate baby skin.
