JULIETTE HAS A GUN. Probably the most unique name for a scent line ever created! Founded in 2006 by the great grandson of Nina Ricci, Romano Ricci, he apprenticed in the world of perfumery for 4 years eventually working with famed nose Francis Kurkdjian. The story behind the name is that of the innocent Juliet of Shakespeare being transposed to the 21^st century … with a gun, which can take on quite a few different metaphors. In 2011, he won a prestigious “Special Prize of the Board” award from the FiFi Awards.

While I’ve only tried a few of their scents, the line is 11 strong: Lady Vengeance, Miss Charming, Not A Perfume, Vengeance Extrême, Romantina, Citizen Queen, Calamity J, Midnight Oud, Mad Madame, Oil Fiction, and Anyway.

And the ones I’ve experienced? Well, they’re not ones for the faint at heart but more for those that like their scent to make a statement, which I usually do. And now that the seasons are changing, it’s time to whip them out again!

So in my continuing curiosity about the others, I was able to get my hands 2 samples of other scents, Anyway and Not A Perfume.

Anyway is described as his “back to basics” scent with top notes of neroli and lime, middle notes of jasmine and base notes of musk and wood. Overall, if you blindfolded me and stuck this scent under my nose, there’s no way I would guess it was from JHAG. It’s really light and pretty mainstream and I can’t say I really smell the jasmine when it starts to dry down, and I’m a fan of jasmine. I’d give this a B-.

Moving over to Not a Perfume, which came out back in 2010, is aptly named as it is not really considered a perfume because it’s one single ingredient called Cetalox. From what I read about this note is that it’s typically used as a base note and first came to light in Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana. While this scent is velvety, musk-y, amber-y, and thick like I like, overall it’s not quite grabbing me and holding on so I’m just  trying to spend more time with it.

So there you have it! My experience with JHAG. If you like your scents strong like your martinis, which is why I like the brand, you may want to give their Vengeance Extreme, Romantina or Lady Vengeance a whirl.

What is your experience with Juliette Has a Gun? 

When I first came across these fragrance atomizers, I was sooooooooooo excited! I got about 6 of them and loaded ‘em up with my favorite perfumes. But the course of a few months, I noticed that the fragrance seemed to just disappear from each of them. I thought they might have spilled but upon checked the interior of my purse with my nose, that didn’t seem to be the case. So I refilled two of them and kept a close eye on both and a short period of time, what I suspected besides spillage was true. It seems that if you put perfume in these, it evaporates and I’m positive that that’s what happened, so they are off my list of must haves. So much so that I really want to just delete them from my website, but I think people should know that perfume can evaporate in them and have noted that in an update to 2 posts that I have on them. Anyway, I must move on, right? I’ve always been fascinated with the JULIETTE HAS A GUN brand and they just revamped their Universal Purse Spray ($35) so now I have a new one to fall in love with! I have their Purse Bullet Perfume Oil (Roll-on) that was one of my gift picks a few years ago and I still love and wear the Lady Vengeance fragrance that was made to come with it. With this one, it’s a perfumed oil and you slide the glass vial in from the bottom, so I’m sure that inspired this new one.

This atomizer comes with a small funnel and the PR company also sent me the Not a Perfume scent that comes in bottle with a dropper so it’s easy to transfer some of it into the bullet sprayer.

Rarely does a scent make me want to go do something to truly experience/enjoy it but this next one does. I don’t think the JULIETTE HAS A GUN brand could make a non-50 Shades of Grey fragrance even if they tried. The latest addition to the brand pays tribute to the woman who dares and goes by the name, Mad Madame, and it’s purely intoxicating, to put it bluntly.

Launch at the end of 2012, this green chypre rose scent is not for the faint of heart, seriously. If you can handle a heavy scent, with thick notes, then go for it. If floral is more your speed, you should pass on this one.

Back to what this one makes me want to do. First, apply it to the sexiest points along my skin long after the sun has set, go deep into my closet and pull out my longest blackest dress, light every candle in the house, put the needle down on a Sister of Mercy record, apply some blood red lipstick and sip champagne out of a goblet, all while donning the chicest headpiece you ever did see. $135/3oz @ dermstore.com.

I like to think that I’m finicky when it comes to perfumes but the number of bottles on my dressing table shown here in this picture might tell a different story altogether.

The latest I can’t get enough of is by the uniquely named company, JULIETTE HAS A GUN. At first I was more fascinated by the name of the company as this could have been a jewelry line, or a brand of clothing but fragrance is what they specialize in.

The latest release is an eau de parfum called Romantina and in reading up on the background of the scent, I came across this recent review by fellow beauty blogger The Non-Blonde and it brings up some great points. The only area I have to disagree is to the way this brand is able to make the cluster of notes hang on to the skin longer than most mass-produced fragrances, as she puts it, ones you find in Bloomingdales. For this one, the dry down is a morph of rich feminine floral blossom with a touch of musk and it lasts for hours, not so much where it enters a room before you do, but more in that anyone in your intimate space will probably get a light whiff of it, which is how perfume should be.

This one’s story is described as:

“For this new episode, I wanted to bring a hint of frivolity into Juliette’s life. Romantina is a modern tale, as refreshing as an afternoon at the café of a Roman piazzetta. First floral fragrance of Juliette has a Gun’s collection, its gentleness is only an appearance. Lifted by a touch of Patchouli, Romantina is a comtemporary [sic] romance where once again, Juliette will get the last word. Romano Ricci"

Like Patty Stanger says, red lips don’t get the guy and I’m not sure this one will either; it’s too confident. And to say this one reminds me of this one is an understatement. If you want unique and edgy all in one, this is one for you to sniff but it for sure won’t be for everyone.
