Is This the BEST Liquid Lipstick Out There?

Is this the best liquid lipstick? Check out a full in-depth review of the Jouer cosmetics with Cybele Says.
As a beauty blogger, it’s fun to compare notes with other bloggers on what they’re using, loving, hating etc. Recently, I had an email conversation with Courtney from phyrra.net and since I know she too loves her liquid lipsticks, I had to ask her what her favorites are. And she stated two that I had not tried out yet: Jouer and Sugarpill. Since the Jouer ones had been high on my list, I decided to buy a few of those.

Best Liquid Lipstick?

So here we have JOUER Long-Wear Lip Crème Liquid Lipstick ($18 @ dermstore.com) in Rose Gold, Fraise Bonbon, and Blush.

So how did these do?

These are some of the most comfortable liquid lipsticks I’ve ever worn. So much so that I’d put them in the top 5, for sure. They dry down all the way to a 100% non-transferable matte finish. In this case matte does not equal desert as these dry down but not too far down where the color is uncomfortable to wear on the lips. It's like the color is not even on the lips, that's how comfortable these are. I know, yeah!

Shown above L to R:

  • Blush – a nice YLBB pink
  • Fraise Bonbon – cool berry red
  • Rose Gold – rose gold

As far as wear-time, the Blush lasted the longest, then the Rose Gold and of course, red being a super hard shade to get longevity out of, the Fraise Bonbon.

The doe foot of the applicator is pretty basic and my only complaint would be the square cap. The cap houses the wand and you hold it to apply the color. I find it’s pretty small so you have to make sure you have a good grip before applying. Then again, maybe I’ve become accustom to all the round caps out there!

What I’m Loving Right … Now!

What-I'm-Loving-Right-...-Now!
Face Love
- JOUER COSMETICS Essentials Matte Touch ($26 @ jouercosmetics.com) – It’s officially the season of shiny faces, so make sure you carry a translucent mattifier with you at all times. This one from Jouer really absorbs oil and contains good-for-skin ingredients like vitamins C, D & E and Willow Bark Extract.

Wipe Love - TARTE ‘Fresh Eyes’ Maracuja Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover Wipes ($12/30 wipes @ qvc.com) – I love me some face wipes and it was only a matter of time before our tarte friends came out with some. These combine maracuja with fruit extracts to fully remove makeup and nourish the skin.

Body Love - THE GRAPESEED CO Custom Lotion in Mama’s Blend ($22/8oz @ grapeseedco.com) – While I prefer a body oil to a lotion these days, I’m simply loving this lotion in grapeseed, aloe & coconut! And it’s made with quality ingredients. Make your own custom lotion with their rich vinotherapy body lotion and you can even choose your own name and bottle color.

Hair Love - PUREOLOGY ‘Strength Cure’ Restorative Masque ($50/5.2oz @ walgreens.com) – No matter what month the calendar says, my strands always seems in need of a hair mask. This latest mask from one of my favorite hair care lines fortifies strands with Asta-Repair including Astaxanthin, a powerful antioxidant, which  reduces breakage of micro-scarred/damaged color-treated hair.

Fragrance Love - RAW SPIRIT Wild Fire EDP ($35/7.5ml rollerball @ rawspiritfragrances.com) – this warm scent pays tribute to one of the founder’s native land of Australia with sandalwood, creamy amber along with ylang ylang, jasmine on a base of musk and cedarwood. Really nice.

Disclosure: Some of these items were provided for review purposes. Some I bought.

Love the Matte Look? Look to Jouer!

Jouer-Matte-Moisture-TintFile this under #beautybloggerproblems! I have too many products for all parts of my body and sometimes I misplace them only to come upon them another time, which is exactly what happened with

JOUER’s Matte Moisture Tint. I’ve been yeah and neh on tinted moisturizers and most have fallen in the neh category for some reason. I think that unless one contains a high SPF, I’ll just use a foundation instead. But I have to admit, they are convenient on those mornings when you are in a hurry.

So how is this one from Jouer? I’m really liking it. It’s oil-free, hypoallergenic, noncomedogenic and fragrance-free, so if you have sensitive skin, you might want to consider this one. And they even put some good-for-skin ingredients in it – their own Multi-Mineral Complex of vitamins A, C and E, and a SPF 15.

And the best trait? It leaves a nice matte finish so you can wear this as-is, or as a base for other makeup. You have to admit, finish is everything! Available in 5 shades for $38/1.7oz @ nordstrom.com.

Review+Swatches - Jouer Crème Eyeshadow Crayons

I’m such a sucker for shadows in the stick form and these new ones from the JOUER line are right up my alley. They are called Crème Eyeshadow Crayons ($24 @ nordstrom.com) and come in 5 colors of creamy color and come with a built-in sharpener in the end. Love when companies think of this small but very important detail!

So how did they perform? Click after the jump to find out!

Review+Swatches - Jouer Bare Beauty Collection

How often do you actually think of the packaging your makeup comes in? I mean, really look at it and think about it? Most lines use the same standard containers that, while the colors may be new, the packaging is boring and, well, just has no thought behind it.

One that does not buy into that book is the JOUER line. Their snap or slide together packaging makes it fun to put together your own “palette” to take out on the go with you.

The latest addition to their line is the Bare Beauty Collection. Click after the jump to see more pictures and color swatches.

Spring Color Pick 2010 ~ Violet & Tuscany ~

Pantone-Spring-2010-Trend-Colors Let’s continue exploring Pantone’s color picks for the season in an on-going feature I’m calling Spring Color  Picks 2010. The next two picks are Violet and Tuscany. I just love violet and it’s a great accent to any outfit or to help put the focus on a specific feature with makeup, like eyes and even nails.

And when it comes to the warm beige hue of Tuscany, this one is a smart choice if the focus of your look is on a stronger color like the above violet or if you want to look polished and not really made up.

Will any of these be taking center stage for you this season?

Spring Color Picks 2010

Pantone-Fashion-Color-Report-Spring-2010 If you follow any aspect of fashion, you’ve heard that the Pantone Color of the Year for 2010 is Turquoise. Just hearing that news recently made me want to redo my living room or at least add some turquoise accents. Did I? No but I it did make me think of beauty products and how I could reflect the trend in my everyday makeup look with a splash of liquid on my nails or powder on my lids. “Combining the serene qualities of blue and the invigorating aspects of green, Turquoise inspires thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and a comforting escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of wellbeing.”

Other colors of the Spring Season? Tomato Purée, Fusion Coral, Violet and Tuscany, to name a few. So what does that mean to you? I’ll be highlighting some products that showcase the colors in an on-going feature called Spring Color Picks. First up? Turquoise and Tomato Purée. I’m pairing the soothing blue-green and the tangy classic red in one feature as I think they balance each other out nicely.

So you wanna see the product picks?

Jouer Puts Our Summer Essentials

Jouer-Bronzer-Tint-Highlighter

I’ve been quite out of touch with the JOUER line. I think the last time we wrote about it is when it came out back in 2004. Wow, time flies! Well they’re back and have hit us with their Beach Chic Summer Collection 2009 and couldn’t be any happier with their choice in colors. They have covered all the bases of what makes great basic summer colors like bronzes and bright colors. Here are the picks.

  • Mineral Powder Bronzer in Suntan – a matte honey brown ($28)
  • Lip and Cheek Tint in Poppy – a sheer coral pink ($20)
  • Highlighter in Tiare – a shimmering gold ($20)
