Are You In Scent Limbo?

Seems that the time between Halloween and Thanksgiving is a bit of a no man’s land when it comes to scents. It’s not quite time for all the holiday fragrances to waft through the house but then again, I’m not quite feeling a floral bouquet either! So I’ve decided that from now on, between these two dates, I will burn the neutral orange scent around the house. This AGRARIA Woven Crystal Perfume Candle in Bitter Orange gave me the idea and while the orange fills the void beautifully, it has a touch of clove and Cypress that gets me excited for what’s coming up next week into next month.

The candle is made with vegetable-based premium soft waxes and a lead-free wick and comes housed in a beautiful rippled glass jar with a silver plated lid stamped with the Agraria crest. A nice added touch from a line that is quickly becoming a favorite. $55/7oz = 30 to 40 hours burn time @

Visit Bali Through Volcanica

There’s only one other time I’ve come across a product in the beauty category that is made in Indonesia in the 12+ years of running this site. Since I’ve been there and my father went every year for about 25 years, I get excited when I happen upon one.

Each VOLCANICA candle is hand-crafted in the city of Ubud by local artisans. You can see their beautiful work in the designs they create and carve with their hands using a blend of beeswax and palm wax and lead-free cotton wicks.

Agraria - A New Way to Scent a Room

I love coming across a totally unique product, especially when it falls into the category of something I’ve never seen before. From the AGRARIA line comes a beautiful way to scent a room. The product is called TasselAire and it is a perfumed tassel that can be hung on a doorknob, a curtain tieback, really anywhere, and no one will be the wiser.

The secret to this scenter is the “carrot,” as they call it, under all the pieces of tassel. Just add several drops of your chosen scent that comes with it to the carrot piece of fabric and you’re good to go for a few more weeks. Choose from 9 scents like Lemon Verbena, Balsam and the one shown here, Mediterranean Jasmine, which smells so good, I could wear it. $35 @

And I know it’s only September but this would make a really nice holiday hostess gift, dontcha think?

Wanna Prevent Split Ends? Here's A Product That Will Do Just That.

Schwarzkopf-Professional-BC-Hairtherapy-Repair-Rescue-Sealed-EndsIs it possible to repair split ends? I mean, I was always of the school that the only way to repair was to literally cut them off but it seems that more brands are coming out with products to repair of infuse the split strand ‘s end back together.

Part of their Repair Rescue line comes SCHWARZKOPF PROFESSIONAL’s BC Hairtherapy Repair Rescue Sealed Ends treatment for damaged ends. The formula features their own Amino Cell Rebuild and Biomimetic Repair Technology that will help prevent split ends, not fix the ones you already have. That I can go with.

It’s applied to towel-dried hair before blow-drying from the middle of stands to the ends. And since seeing is believing and I’ve only been using this for the past month, my ends do seem to be less frayed but I will continue to use it as part of my hair regimen. $21/2.6oz @

Room Scenting with Royal Apothic

What kind of interior scent-giver do you use? Candles? Plug-in? None at all? I just came across a super fancy one from ROYAL APOTHIC. I mean, just look at this decanter! Doesn’t this remind of you of something you’d see used on Downton Abbey? I will be keeping this long after I use the scent up to keep my dressing table looking fancy.

Royal-Apothic-English-Rose-Interior-Perfume-2This English Rose Interior Perfume was inspired by the new Gilded Aristocracy collection and the classic florals of vintage England.

Top notes: Fresh Bergamont
Middle: Crisp Grapefruit
Base: Petal of English Rose.

$8/10oz @ and be sure to check out the other gorgeous products in this line.

Bluewick Has You Covered for Holiday Scents

So today is Thanksgiving and for me, we’ve officially moved into another olfactory stage, that of the room scent. I can’t think of any other season where room scents are bigger than from November to December.

Pine Tree, Cinnamon, Peppermint, there are so many smells that just bring such a warm feeling in the room.

Anyway, one of my favorite seasonal candle lines is BLUEWICK and their Reserve Holiday Collection pretty much encompasses any scent craving you could have: Winter Currant, Sweet Pumpkin and Evergreen.

Bluewick-Evergreen-Deco-Cylinder-CandleAnd they just added a new trait only found in this collection, apricot wax. It helps the wax burner cleaner than a straight up soy wax candle, not to mention it helps with the scent throw.

Choose from three different “styles”: Fragrance Diffusers ($40/8oz=120 days), Jar Candle ($22/8oz=120 hours) and Deco Cylinder ($35/21oz=150 hours) @

Fall Standouts – Scents

I think the month of October is my favorite month of fall as here in LA, it’s still nice but the eves have more of a bite to them. The smells are different than the rest of the year, not to mention we start getting rain (yeah!!). Candle usage in the house also increases around this time of year and here are a few room scents I’ve been loving.

INFUSION ORGANIQUE Sands of Morocco Scent Diffuser ($56/6.4oz, $90/16oz @ – I’ve been sitting on this scent for a few months now as it wasn’t quite fitting for summer but oh-so-yes for fall. Unleash a combination of vanilla, sandalwood, warm oak moss and certified organic lemongrass oil in any room to warm it up this season.

Infusion-Organique-Sands-of-Morocco-DiffuserMRS. MEYER’S Iowa Pine Scented Soy Candle ($6.99/4.9oz = 25 hours @ – I kind of jumping the guy with this pine scent but it’s really getting me in the mood for the upcoming season so I can’t help it! Fill the room with a touch of clove and cedar with this baby. Also available are Orange Clove, Cranberry and Spice Cake.

SLATKIN & CO. Candle in Apple Crumble ($19.50/40-65 hours @ – I’m not much for the food-smelling candles but who doesn’t love the smells of apples? This one smells like Granny Smith and McIntosh apples with a touch of vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. Smells good enough to eat.

The Parisian Way to Scent a Room - Lampe Berger Paris

Lampe-Berger-Paris-Corollissima Room fragrances are a huge industry with each major corporation looking for their stake in the category. Sometimes though, it’s nice to get back to basics with an original. The LAMPE BERGER PARIS company was founded in 1898 in France and uses a process called catalytic diffusion to not only scent the air in a room but also purify it. Each of the 45 scents were created by master perfumers and is as intricate as a fine perfume you’d wear on the skin.

Ok, so how it work is you fill one of their gorgeous containers about 2/3rd full with one of their fragrances. And there are literally 100 or more different containers, or lampes as they call them, to choose from so you can coordinate each room’s look. Insert the burner and replace the (flame) snuffer on the top. The wick inside the lampe should soak for 20 minutes (you don’t have to do this every time, just the first time) and then remove the snuffer and light the wick. Keep it lit for 2 minutes and then gently blow it out and replace the fancy cap on top of the burner. In about 30 minutes, you’ll have the room scented enough to last quite a few hours. And the 16.9oz fragrance bottle will provide 20 hours of burn time if you follow that put-the-snuffer-on-the-lampe-after-30-minutes. And that’s the only trait I don’t like about this is that I forgot to snub the scent out after 30 minutes before thus use up more liquid than I want to. Could this maybe come with a timer?

Fragrance are $20 and the lampes run $60 to $2,000 for lampes in the Limited Edition Art Collection @

Infusion Organique Soy Blend Candle

Infusion-Organique-Candle-in-Indochine Are you looking for a new candle line these days? I have one you might want to investigate. The sexy INFUSION ORGANIQUE’s Soy Blend Candle in Indochine is simply rocking my world right now. This one combines organic extracts and oils of kumquat (the word kumquat is Chinese for golden orange. Didn’t know that!), peach, water lily, muguet and vanilla. The blend then dances with certified organic grapefruit extract, orange, and ylang-ylang essential oils. And the scent throw – it fills up the whole room with the subtle notes but not in an overpowering way.

And what I like about this line overall is that it combines two of what I truly have come to believe is the best after trying out products for the past 10+ years here on the site – organic materials + science = fantastic. $38/65 hours burn time @

Baronessa Cali Puts Out THE Candle

I just stuck my toe into the BARONESSA CALI water and I must say, I like it so far! As you can see from the picture, this is their Tarocco Single Wick Soy Candle with Sicilian Red Orange Extracts. Wow, the throw from this scent is, well, there! Think of the largest and juiciest orange you’ve ever tasted and you have the scent of this candle. $26/11oz = 65 to 75 hours @
