How to Avoid Makeup Meltdown!

Can you believe we still have over a month of summer temps? My biggest problem this time of year when it comes to makeup is the dreaded makeup meltdown. It’s not fun and doesn’t look good. Here are few I like that will help you avoid it this season.

Say-Buh-Bye-To-Makeup-Melt
Face Primer
GUERLAIN L’Or Radiance Primer ($74/1oz @ sephora.com, nordstrom.com) – a good face of makeup needs something to adhere to and this one gets my vote.

Setting Mist SUPERGOOP Supergoop! X MILLY Defense Refresh Setting Mist SPF 50 ($28/3.4oz @ sephora.com) – keep it all in place with a good makeup setting spray. And this one has SPF 50 built in so you refreshing all day will give you a shot of protection from the sun.

Brow Gel PHYSICIANS FORMULA Brow Last Longwearing Brow Gel ($10.95 @ walgreens.com) – I inherited my father’s brows so my brow hairs get long so keeping them in place is a must. This duo adds a dash of color and the other end combs it all in place.

Blush – I usually go with a cream blush but this CARGO Swimmables Water Resistant Blush ($26 @ ulta.com, dermstore.com) is showing its strength. This one is sweatproof and waterproof so I’m restoring my faith in pressed powder during the summer again.

Anti-Lip bleeding LippieMAC Liptensity Lip Pencil ($21 @ maccosmetics.com, nordstrom.com) – I’ve been wearing these as full lip colors and the added benefit? No bleeding! The Marsala shade is a favorite.

MascaraBENEFIT BADgal Waterproof Mascara ($19 @ benefitcosmetics.com, hsn.com) – one of my favorite mascaras for bad-girl lashes comes in a waterproof formula so it will totally stay on.

Budge-proof liner URBAN DECAY 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil ($21 @ urbandecay.com, sephora.com, ulta.com) – liner running down the face couldn’t look worse so prevent it with any of their 50+ shades.

5 Favorite ... Makeup Brushes

5-Favorite-..-Makeup-Brushes-Crown-Brush-Guerlain-Make-Up-For-Ever-Bdellium-Tools-Pixi-Beauty
1. CROWN BRUSH Set 700P – 5 PC. Essentials Set w/Purple Tips ($19.95 @ crownbrush.us) – the perfect set of tools for on the go. This cloth pouch contains all your essentials – Powder Dome, Oval Foundation, Oval Shadow, Oval Detail and Angle Liner. And the purple tips of the brushes are really chic.

2. PIXI BEAUTY Precision Brush ($12) and Shadow Brush from their new Brush Collection – both and more @ dermstore.com – the Pixi line is really expanding the brand! First this and now brushes. The Precision Brush is stubbed, which is great for creating a smoky eye or for smudging shadow or liner.
And I’m a sucker for a great all-purpose Shadow Brush, which is the perfect size for many different applications on the lid and above.

3. GUERLAIN Terracotta Bronzing Powder Brush ($42 @ nordstrom.com) – this is the Rolls Royce of bronzing brushes. Everything about it says luxe! From the deep red bristles to the bronze-colored suede pouch with magnetic closure it comes in.

4. BDELLUIM TOOLS All-Purpose Blusher #964 – part of the Anti-Bacterial Brush Collection ($14.75 @ bdelliumtools.com) – confused about all the different blush brushes out there? This one is a good option then! As the name states, it’s an all-purpose and can handle any blush you buff on it. This 8.5” long  brush uses natural and synthetic fibers in the hair.

5. MAKE UP FOR EVER #158 Double Ended Sculpting Brush ($53 @ sephora.com) – love the brand’s newest makeup brushes and this double-ended brush covers a lot of uses – blush, face powder, and bronzer. Only use animal-free products? This one’s safe for you.

Fab Fall Fragrances

Falll-2011-Beauty-Pick-logo
These new fragrances here got me thinking - What I wouldn’t give to shadow a “nose” around for a week for a crash course of "A Day in the Life." I’m sure 90% of what they do, I can’t even imagine!

These scents here are kinda day/kinda eve and I’ve been alternating between them for the past few weeks as they are each so different from one another.

ELIE SAAB Le Parfum ($60/1oz, $90/3oz, $120/6.7oz @ ice.com) – no wonder I like this one! It was created by world-renowned perfumer Francis Kurkdjian and I really think he/they hit it out of the ballpark with this one. I don’t know that last time I ripped a fragrance page out of a magazine but I did with this one! It’s based on a floral, solar, woody theme and boasts notes of orange blossom, jasmine, rose honey, patchouli and cedar. Simply stunning!

Guerlain Makes Faces Glow

GUERLAIN-Météorites-Powder (I sprayed some Shalimar on before writing this review!)

This product brings back memories of when I first saw these pea-sized pearl balls of color in the container quite a few years ago and wondering just how they were used in beauty. So what does GUERLAIN’s Météorites Powder for Face ($56/1.05oz @ sephora.com) do beside just sit there and look beautiful? Each of the colored balls inside the tin is made to enhance, brighten, correct etc, they call it “pearls with a purpose.” Like the one I tried was Teint Dore 03 or Gold Tint from the Dazzling Radiance Summer 2010 Collection and this one “corrects with mauve and blue to eliminate yellowness amongst a golden tone.” And this is just one three new color correcting tins.

So if you are looking for a product to make your skin glow, this might be one to consider. And the violet scent … mmm …

The idea also comes as a Pressed Powder. Have you tried either? Do tell in the comments!

2010 Spring Color Pick - Green!

I was in Banana Republic over the weekend looking or some springy tops and they had nothing. Everything was grays and beiges! Huh? How is that anyway to welcome the spring season?! That got me thinking. What colors are you feeling right now? I’m jumping on the green bandwagon. Not so much the pastel green but the Green-products true greens. Here are some I’m sporting right now:

SPA RITUAL Nail Lacquer in Yes, I Can ($10 @ dermstore.com) – grass green cream.

BLOOM Shadow Liner in Emerald Green – ($24.99 @ bloomcosmetics.com) - metallic emerald green.

ILLAMASQUA Powder Eye Shadow in Stalk ($20 @ asos.com) - matte teal green.

GUERLAIN Terracotta Fard Indien Mineral Eyeshadow in Jungle Dust ($35 @ bloomingdales.com) – deep green shimmer.

If you are looking to stay within the season's color trends, the one from Guerlain is spot on Pantone's radar of their Dried Herb pick. This one here looks like dried oregano!

I'll be picking my favorite products that are on point with this seasons picks to be sure to check back. Is there any color trend that you are most into these days?

Product As Art

This piece has actually been a while in the making. I have been compiling products that are too pretty to touch as in, I can’t bear to break the seal and run a brush over the colors. Does anyone else have this issue?

Something like MAC’s limited edition Colour Forms Cool Eyes x 5 ($38 only @ nordstrom.com) shown here practically sends me into spasms! Not only are the color blocks pretty but can you imagine keeping each color in their designated area? Ok, I’m a little obsessed with that too. There’s nothing more skin crawling than seeing a dirty palette.

Since palette or shadow art has become so hot and so pleasant to look at, I’ll highlight some of my favorites each season. While every product that appears on Cybelesays is tried and tested by us, this on-going feature will feature ones that we might not have tried and tested, just fawned over. How do you like that?

So purchase them or not, here are a few that just took our breath away.
