Cleansing Balms from Emma Hardie & Botanic Farm
One of my favorite products to try out these days is cleansing balms. I love how they start out as a solid and then break down into an oil or milky liquid when emulsified between my hands. The latest ones I’m putting at the top of my list are these two:
EMMA HARDIE Moringa Cleansing Balm with Cleansing Cloth ($60/3.52oz @ emmahardie.com)
What It Is: A luxurious botanical cleansing balm that removes all traces of makeup. It doubles as a soothing and softening mask and universal rescue balm. Moringa seeds, wild fennel and vitamin E help to balance, purify and minimize the appearance of open pores, whilst a blend of uplifting orange, neroli and mandarin extracts combined with calming jasmine and rose to revitalize, dull, dry, dehydrated and mature skin.
My take: While they call this a cleansing balm, to me, it’s more like a cleansing gel and it smells unbelievable! When I opened the jar, the scent of oranges wafted out and with all of the aforementioned nourishing ingredients inside, I know I’m giving my skin a serious dose of them whilst cleansing. It’s funny that I’m so used to a balm taking on the white waxy look like this one, this one, and this one, that I was a tad taken back when I saw cleansing balm. It’s just beauty, Cybele.
What It Is: made in Korea, this is a creamy solid makeup remover that has 3 kinds of grains, which are rice, rice bran, and Soybean Ferment Extract.
My take: Now this one looks more like the balms I’ve used and seen over the years and like the usual ones, just scoop out a pea to quarter-sized dollop and warm it up in hands for it to emulsify into a creamy oil and then just work it into the face and neck to cleanse and remove makeup. And from the picture you see here of both in my hand, they look like they could be greasy but they are not. They completely wash away and leave a little moisture behind, which I like.
An added bonus with the Emma Hardie one is the Dual Action Professional Cleansing Cloth that comes in the box. One side is a gently abrasive muslin side for exfoliation and the other is a smoother microfiber side for polishing. I love that this product comes with its own Cleansing Cloth and what a quality one it is. Such an added value. One side is Muslin, which is 100% cotton and great for exfoliating and the other is an 80% polyester/20% polymide microfiber.
