BUXOM Va-Va-Plump Shiny Liquid Lipstick
There seems to be a place for just about everything in this world, even this liquid lipstick. When I first received the package of BUXOM's new Va-Va-Plump Shiny Liquid Lipstick ($20 @ buxomcosmetics.com, ulta.com, nordstrom.com), I ripped the package open and immediately applied one and then waited, and waited, and waited. Waited for it to dry down but it wasn't. It wasn't acting like I thought it should when I know good and well that I can't control people, places or things! To me, a liquid lipstick should dry down to a matte finish and either be fully transfer-proof or only somewhat transfer-proof, but here we had one of those ones that I’ve tried before that transferred color onto everything - mugs, hands, other parts of the face etc.
In thinking about these over the next day (yes, I take liquid lipsticks seriously), I thought, "What a let-down these were. Another brand calling their product a liquid lipstick when it really wasn't." But wait, why isn't it? I mean, the formula itself is liquidy, so where does it say that in order to call itself by that name, that is has to dry down/semi-dry down? I guess I think it has to be as those are the kinds that I first experienced and fell in love with.
So with these Va-Va-Plump Shiny Liquid Lipsticks, yes, they transfer, however, it's one of those where you can't tell on the lips where the color transferred from. In other words, your lips are still fully covered, even when some color transfers.
Because this formula doesn’t really “set,” if you are prone to lipstick bleeding, I would for sure wear them with a lip liner, or rather, one of those clear liners like this one or this one.
What I do like about these is that they not only keep their full color but my lips don't dry out. This time of year can be brutal for us regular liquid lipstick wearers as the air is dryer and the longer I wear one through the day, the drier my lips can be by the time the sun goes down.
So as always, I take each brand on a case-by-case. Yes, to me these are a tad more work because I have to be careful not to touch my face, but they don't dry the lips out at all. I admit, even the ones I hold up on a pedestal that do dry down all the way get to be a tad uncomfortable as it gets into the wee hours of wear.
Here are some other traits about these Va-Va-Plump Shiny Liquid Lipsticks - the lips feel a slight tingle of mint upon application but that only lasts a few minutes. Could that be the plumping the name implies? I hated the way those lip plumpers felt when the trend first came out. The cinnamon and other ingredients didn’t seem to plump my lips, just irritated them. That doesn't happen here.
I love when a company puts some love and attention into the applicator and Buxom does. It's curved on one side so it hugs the lip when applying it.
When it comes to the tube, like this one, they made it mostly black so it’s hard to tell what shade you are picking up if you end up getting a few of these. Not a good thing in my book.
