We are full-on into the holiday season and I have not had a chance to get my hair trimmed! What’s a girl to do? Well, improvise, for one, and since I had a huge holiday get-together this past weekend, I think my hair style came out pretty well.

Whenever I am overdue for a cut and have an event or party to go to, this wavy side look has become my go-to style. It’s dressy and hides the fact that, well, I’m due for a cut.

For this one, I start with Suave Avocado + Olive Oil Smoothing Shampoo & Conditioner that I pick up in huge 40oz bottles at my local Sam’s Club. We are in frizzy season and these hair products contain avocado and olive oil, which is known for their rich emollients, which helps keep the frizzies away. And since it’s been so hot, I love that this duo protects from frizz, even in 95% humidity!

I will be in Sam’s Club a lot this season picking up essential party supplies and I always know I can depend on their hair care aisle. They make it so easy because they carry familiar brands like TRESemme, Suave Kids, and Nexxus, to name a few. You can also see more here.

What you will need for this tutorial:

  • 1” barrel curling iron
  • Duckbill clips
  • 3 French side combs
  • Fascinator

Here are the super easy steps!

  1. Starting with day old hair, pull all the hair around the back to one side, and secure with combs. It won’t much matter if the back is not super perfect because your hair will settle a little and cover some of it.
  2. Then section your hair to make it easier to curl. When using the curling iron, make the curls roll back towards the back of the head. Very important when it comes to this hair style that they all go one way.
  3. After letting the curls cool down, using a boar-bristle brush, brush out the curls and look for the natural bends. Place a piece of tissue and Duckbill clip in the bend to hold it. The longer you let the clips stay in like this, the longer it will hold in your hair.
  4. Time to get dressed and apply your makeup, and afterward, you’re ready to take the clips out and add a fascinator. So simple, yet so glamorous! I like this because it’s smooth and sleek on top and then has cascading curls below the jawline, which is really flattering.

And just think, it didn’t take a lot of time or technique to achieve it. Just make sure you start with a good base like the Suave Avocado + Olive Oil Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner. Life can be easy!
