A New Brand on the Scene - Velvet 59
Sometimes it’s hard to keep my makeup products straight. Take these VELVET 59 to the max Liquid Lipsticks ($20 @ velvet59.com), for example. I should have reviewed and swatched these a few months ago and misplaced them. But better late than never!
You may have remembered my review of their other lippies here and I was tre-excited to experience these babies!
In order to get a good feel for any liquid liquids, I like to try the red, my favorite lippie color by far, and then one of the more neutral colors because even though it’s the same product, colors can make a products performance vary from color to color.
There are four shades available from L to R: Gigi (blue-red), Pink Cadillac (light pink), Kai-Lea (medium mauve), and Vanilla Macaroon (true nude).
The formula of these infuses Sacha Inchi oil from the Amazon rainforest to keep lips in shape but I think the only way to know that this is not super drying is how my lips felt not as dry after wearing one.
For me, the two light colors did not perform as well as the two darker shades. They were streaky and looked like colored chalk on my lips. Not sexy. The darker, Gigi and Kazka, wear really well and last for hours on lips!
Since they are true LL, they are rather on the drying side, which gives them their longevity. If you do need a little moisture, the brand sells a Velvet Rose Lip Gloss that I’m guessing works over these but I have not tried it.
There are only a few brands that I know of that come with a separate balm with their LL like L’Oreal Infallible Lip Color, Maybelline Super Stay 24 Color to name a few, so if it doesn’t come with one, chances are any balm or Vaseline you apply on top with probably ruin it.
