A Surprise from Kat Von D's New Metal Crush Eyeshadows
I was pretty excited when I saw KAT VON D’s Metal Crush Eyeshadows ($21 @ sephora.com) coming out for the fall. While I try and wear the bright colors like theses when it comes to shadows it seems that I gravitate towards them more for lips but things can change!
Each color is made with the brand’s own technology called Color-Soaked Concentrate, which are custom blended powders for the greatest possible saturations of pigments and pearls in a long-wearing eyeshadow. Each seems to have a metallic finish and comes in 11 colors.
So how did these do? Well you may be surprised. I know I was.
Pluses: Blendable Fun, edgy colors. And most of all, the names of the shadows! Yes, I’m am/was a metalhead so did I ever think I would see the day when an eye shadow was named Black No. 1?? (It’s a song from Type O Negative’s Bloody Kisses album). Well duh, no way.
Minuses: two of these shades performed and two really didn’t. While the shadows blended in well, didn't crease on lids, and lasted an average of 9 hours, I found the pigment was lacking when it came to Black No. 1 and Iggy. It’s funny how we assume since one shade in a collection is good that the rest will perform just as well but that’s not always the case.
From L to R: Paranoid (metallic cobalt ), Electric Warrior (metallic citron green), Black No. 1 (metallic gunmetal), Iggy (metallic mermaid green)
The blue of Electric Warrior and Paranoid reminded of a shadow that the brand with two words that begins with a ‘U’ would come out with. I was really hoping these would give that brand a run for their, well shadow, but with only 2 out of the 4 getting high marks, I can’t say these will.
