Is the Deafening Buzz Over This Justified?
So much buzz over this latest release from HOURGLASS COSMETICS! This Modernist Eyeshadow Palette ($58 only @ sephora.com) is so unique with the colors inside all swirled into one another; just simply gorgeous to look at, dontcha think? But, at the end of the day, a more important question arises - how does it perform? Click after the jump to find out!
Here are some facts about the Modernist Eyeshadow Palette:
- Seven shade palettes available
- There are various finishes and textures in each color in each palette
- There are 5 complementary shades in each
- Each is formulated without parabens, sulfates or phthalates
This is the Graphite (Smokey) palette. Colors from L to R – warm ivory, copper gold, deep brown, gun metal, and silver.
My take: While I could look at this palette all day, I wish that the shades stayed on my lids all day or blended better, for that matter. I’ve learned to be quite forgiving if a shadow kicks up a lot of fall out while I’m rubbing the brush in the color. I mean, I’ve been surprised before and not taken this as a bad sign, but in this case, it was a bad sign.
I had to go back to my website and look up to see when the last time I tried a Hourglass shadow was and it went back to 2008 with a review of one of their palettes. Hmmmm...
The shades I was most interested in with this Graphite palette were the deep brown and gun metal and like I said, while they’re stunning to look at, they just didn’t perform like I’d hoped. I could recommend quite a few other brands that have better versions of the shades.
So even though I’m passing on this palette a pass, I still love ya Hourglass!
