DIY - How to Make Crystal’d Bobby Pins
I love most things that have to do with the hair, especially hair tools and hair accessories. When I was young I got really involved in making those ribbon barrettes and my fascination with anything I can stick in the hair has not waned! So consider this a tribute to my DIY ribbon barrettes I used to make.
Here is what you need for this tutorial:
- 2 ½” Bobby Pins
- Flat Back Crystals
- E6000 glue
I used the longer 2 ½” pins as opposed to their younger sister, the 1 ½” ones, because depending on how many crystals you glue on, they will take up some space on the overall pin and you want to be able to see them.
Feel free to use any brand of crystals you want. The ones I used here are Swaroski and the glue I used is e6000, which is the best to use with any Swarovski flat back product you choose.
The size of crystals used here are sizes SS48 (very large), ss34 and ss30 and I get them @ Bohemian Crystal in downtown Los Angeles and also @ harmanbeads.com. The colors shown are Crystal, Capri Blue, Light Rose and Jet Hematite.
So just apply a dab of glue on the top of each pin or on the back of the crystal, put the to areas together, let it dry and voila, Crystal’d Bobby Pins! And don’t be afraid to apply a good amount of glue as you can always use a toothpick to scrape away any that shows on the outside of the pin that sits next to the crystal.
I also put crystals on both sides of some of the Bobby Pins so no matter how I turn my head, crystals will be seen.
So how do you wear these? Around the top of my bun, tucked into the bottoms of a rubber band of a side ponytail so only the crystals show. There are so many ways!
Is this something you think you will make?
