Visit Bali Through Volcanica
There’s only one other time I’ve come across a product in the beauty category that is made in Indonesia in the 12+ years of running this site. Since I’ve been there and my father went every year for about 25 years, I get excited when I happen upon one.
Each VOLCANICA candle is hand-crafted in the city of Ubud by local artisans. You can see their beautiful work in the designs they create and carve with their hands using a blend of beeswax and palm wax and lead-free cotton wicks.
Choose from pillars, spheres, roses and my favorite, the “unique” tab on the website.
Prices start at $11 and go up to $129.50 depending on the style.
Byzantine Profound ($107/7” x 7” = 134 burn hours)
Elegant Pearl ($28/4” x 4” = 78 burn hours)
And just writing up this feature, I couldn't help looking around my place at some of the art I picked up from Bali and that I have been given from my father, like this 3' x 1.2"mask made of one large piece of hibiscus wood. It's one of my favorite pieces of art in my house!
I haven’t even begun the 2013 Cybelesays Gift Guide yet but I think these candles are starting it! At least I know what I will be giving my father for Christmas.
