A Buildable Mascara Throughout the Day? Really?

Neutrogena-Healthy-Length-MascaraHave you ever heard of a buildable mascara? Like being able to apply more after it sets? My experience is that you pretty much can’t update it again … until now! I wouldn’t have believed it if I didn’t experience it but this new Healthy Lengths Mascara from NEUTROGENA.

Now I’m pretty set with my go-to mascara here but this one kinda threw me, in a good way! I really let each layer dry before applying another and I noticed instead of my lashes acting like hardened spikes of wheat, they were instead pliable and open to accepting more layers of this on them. I got 4 layers and they look quite nice!

Now, the downside. While it lasts on lashes if you don’t touch them, as soon as water touches them, off it starts to come. So forget about wearing this to a wedding or if you see a sad commercial. Here is my idea -  wear it to work and then when you have another place at night to go, layer on some waterproof or other mascara that will set it. The finished lashes look so good that this trait is such a bummer.

Available in 3 shades for $8.49 @

Who Says A Primer Can Last 15 Hours?? They Do.

I’m always a little suspicious when a product claims “24-hour wear” or in this case, “15-hour wear.” How can they really test that it lasts that long (would love to see the procedure!) and isn’t it really just a name they can give the product? In any case, the latest long-wearing product is BENEFIT COSMETICSStay Flawless 15-Hour Primer Base ($32 @ This one is an invisible face primer used before any tinted moisturizer or foundation to prolong the wear.

Benefit-Stay-Flawless-15-Hour-PrimerI love that it comes in a stick form as you can see from the picture so I don’t have to waste any of it on my fingers.

So how long did it last on my skin? I got a full evening out of it the few times I tried it and that’s always good enough for me. My test is how much makeup comes off on my washcloth when I’m washing my face. So you could say I’m a fan of this stick., Inc.

Going Coconuts With Lather!

I have quite the love affair with the LATHER line. I mean, one of their products is in my Hall of Fame. *sigh* Anyway, since I got back from Hawaii a few weeks ago, there have been a few things on my mind and one is coconut. When I got home, one of the first things I did was pull out any coconut products I had stashed in my beauty closet and put them front and center so I could continue to sorta be on vacation. Thankfully some from Lather were part of this group!

Lather-Coconut-Foaming-Body-ScrubThey just came out with three based on the yummy fruit:

(new) Coconut Foaming Body Scrub ($19/4oz) – contains coconut shell and bamboo stem powder, coconut extracts and essential oils, among others. And it foams!! Love it.

(new) Coconut Crème Body Wash ($18/8oz) – this one smells like Hawaiian heaven! Coconut oil, Aloe Vera and Apricot oils give your nose a treat, while cleansing and nourishing the body with Shea Butter and Bamboo extract.

(existing) Coconut Crème Body Whip ($22/4oz) – top your vaca experience with this light crème infused with coconut oil, aloe, shea, jojoba seed oil and some major anti-oxidants like vitamins A, C and E.

Is This the Next Argan Oil?

Acure-Marula-OilMarula Oil is extracted from the kernals of the Marula tree found in Southern Africa and West Africa and is commonly used in beauty products, cooking, to treat leather and as a meat preservative.

In beauty, it’s great for chapped skin, scars, reduces redness in the skin and is Vegan.

ACURE ORGANICS produces one in their line called, what else, Marula Oil. It’s paraben-free, Vegan, gluten free, fragrance free and silicone free and is harvested by South African women. It’s just straight up pure Marula Oil ($15.99/1oz @ and I’ve been using it for pretty much everything – a hair smoother,  my cuticles, my legs after shaving and as a light face oil.

Have you heard of this oil yet?

Love the Matte Look? Look to Jouer!

Jouer-Matte-Moisture-TintFile this under #beautybloggerproblems! I have too many products for all parts of my body and sometimes I misplace them only to come upon them another time, which is exactly what happened with

JOUER’s Matte Moisture Tint. I’ve been yeah and neh on tinted moisturizers and most have fallen in the neh category for some reason. I think that unless one contains a high SPF, I’ll just use a foundation instead. But I have to admit, they are convenient on those mornings when you are in a hurry.

So how is this one from Jouer? I’m really liking it. It’s oil-free, hypoallergenic, noncomedogenic and fragrance-free, so if you have sensitive skin, you might want to consider this one. And they even put some good-for-skin ingredients in it – their own Multi-Mineral Complex of vitamins A, C and E, and a SPF 15.

And the best trait? It leaves a nice matte finish so you can wear this as-is, or as a base for other makeup. You have to admit, finish is everything! Available in 5 shades for $38/1.7oz @

Review+Swatches - Bare Escentuals Marvelous Moxie Lips Lip Gloss

I kind of think of Spring as lip gloss season. It’s light on lips (usually) and gives just a hint of color and ones right up this alley are BARE ESCENTUALS and the Marvelous Moxie Lips lip glosses they came out with last month. Let’s take a closer look at some of the shades.

Hydrate Lips With Rouge Coco Baume from Chanel

Chanel-Rouge-Coco-Baume-Hydrating-Conditioning-Lip-Balm-2I’m pretty obsessed with this Rouge Coco Baume Hydrating Conditioning Lip Balm from CHANEL. I attended one of their events recently and out of all the products, this one jumped out at me most! It contains some really nourishing ingredients including their own Hydratendre Complex to keep lips in tip top shape and it even gives the lips a little glossy look. And it smells of faint roses. A little on the expensive side but this is one I will cherish and be sure not to lose. $34 @, Inc.

Looking for a GREAT Hair Masque? This Might Be It!

Hair conditioners are like mascaras for me in that I can pretty much instantly tell a great one for a bad one and this one from DERMORGANIC for sure falls in the great category. It’s their Intensive Hair Repair Masque ($16/8oz @ and I shouldn’t be surprised that I liked it so much since I loved this one from them and used it down to its last drop. Cetaphil? Huh? This cleanser is my Cetaphil!

Anyway back to this hair masque. As we all know, Argan Oi is thee ingredient of the … year, I guess, and this one contains it, which is great, but it has so many other pluses besides that. They have somehow created the formula to be able use one of the ingredients, rice amino acids, to replicate the keratin structure of the hair. So what does that mean? Instead of just coating each hair, it penetrates to fully nourish each strand by repairing any damage, neutralizing the pH, which is very important, and help bring it back to, well, life again. And after using it a few times in the last few weeks, I can attest that my hair looks more “alive” than it has with other hair masques/masks.

And don’t hesitate if you color your hair because this one can be used safely on it without changing or depleting your rich shade.

Are you in the market for a new deep conditioner this season?

Review+Swatches - Nyx Cosmetics Wonder Pencils

Nyx-Wonder-Pencil-close-upWhat can these two pencils be used for? I think the question should be, what can’t they be used for because they are so versatile. The soft light beige and medium beige pencils from NYX COSMETICS called Wonder Pencils are just that. As in, “I wonder what else I can use these for?”

Nyx-Wonder-Pencil-in-light-and-mediumCorners of eyes, cupids bow, under eyebrows, waterline, conceal a blemish or scar, lip liner and probably so many other ways I’m not thinking of right now. These are a must have staple for your makeup collection. $4.50 @, Inc.
