Happening Body Oils of the Moment

There’s nothing like a really great body oil and I’ve searched high and low for the best ones out there right now and came up with these winners. One of the reasons is that they are so versatile – face, body, even hair. Do you use body oils or will you start incorporating them into your beauty routine?

Body-Oils AROMATHERAPY ASSOCIATES Bath & Shower Oil ($63/1.86oz @ net-a-porter.com) – the one shown here is for Inner Strength, which I think we can all use more of, the founder created this when she was going through cancer and blends clary sage, frankincense and cardamom. While I’m not wild about the overall smell of this one (smells really strongly of lavender for some reason, which I don’t like), the quality of this one reins and I’m sure it will appease many out there.

LIERAC Huile Sensorielle Sensory Oil with 3 Flowers ($40/1.86oz @ dermstore.com) – Mmm, this one contains extracts of jasmine, gardenia, camellia (which they call the 3 White Flowers), hazelnut and sweet almond, to name a few. This one absorbs quickly and doesn’t make any part of the body greasy.

SHEA MOISTURE Raw Shea Butter Baby Oil Rub ($10.99/8oz @ target.com) – this is a new brand to me and wow, I’m impressed! The ingredient list starts with sunflower seed oil, Shea Butter, Sweet Almond and jojoba and gets better from there. Nothing bad in this one! And it smells really nice. Big recommendation.

KAHINA 100% Organic Argan Oil ($36/1oz, $82/3oz @ net-a-porter.com) – why don’t you just cut to the chase and go with the oil of the moment, argan oil? This extremely anti-oxidant rich oil can be used anywhere on the face or body and even hair (hello Moroccanoil!?) and is one of the lighter oils out there.

What's In Your Toothbrush?

Tom's-of-Maine-toothbrushHow often do you change out your toothbrush? Only after getting over the flu (yes, you are supposed to do that)? They say every 3 months or when you see some bristles starting to bend off to the side. Mouth health is very important!! I mean, who wants to kiss a yuck mouth?

Going to the toothbrush aisle can be almost as intimidating as going to the cosmetic section in the drugstore with so many choices in your line of sight. I was pretty excited when the decision was made for me by TOM’S OF MAINE’s PR when they sent me the new Naturally Clean toothbrush to try out. Like I would imagine, the handle is made of a recyclable plant-based handle that is made from renewable castor oil plants instead of petroleum. And something I never thought about, toothbrushes are not recyclable! But these are through their TerraCycle collection program, which you can learn about here. I like that!

And this one seems to stack up with the other major brands like having a angled neck and multi-level bristles. Something they add is the handle is dye-free and contains no BPAs (a chemical that makes plastics last for 25+ years and found it everything you see every day) or artificial colors.

Choose from Soft or Medium for $3.99 @ amazon.com.

Review: IT Cosmetics Tightline Mascara

IT-Cosmetics-Tightline-Full-Lash-Line-Black-Mascara-Primer-DuoMascara wands are like skirt hems, they oscillate between thick/longer and thin/short by trend it seems. One that is concentrating on getting every lash even at the base of the lashes is IT COSMETICSTightline Lash Line Black Mascara Primer.

What it is: an ultra-skinny wand so you can coat lashes starting at the root of the hairs next to the lid. It’s also like using an eyeliner in that it deposits the black color on the skin, filling in areas in between the hairs or where hairs are missing. It also has the word primer in the name but I’m not sure how that play into this one. Hmmm…

My take: Not just for the base of the lashes; I bring the wand the whole way through lashes. I loved their mascara here and this one probably uses the same great formula.

I see these sell as a duo only @ ulta.comqvc.com for $29.

Check Out These Wicked Cute Tweezers from Sephora!

I’m a sucker for super cute products, especially when it comes to essential ones and this one falls in both categories. SEPHORA The Archer ($12 @ sephora.com) is two pairs of stainless steel tweezers in a mirrored case. Both tips are slanted but one more than the other to get every hair you need to remove.

Review+Swatches - NARS Larger Than Life in Paris Follies

Either the size of the text on the bottom of NARS’ lip glosses is getting smaller and smaller or I’m going blind. I could barely read the name on this new Larger Than Life color called Paris Follies. It’s a bright flamingo pink and I had really high hopes for the color pay off as the others I’ve tried were really great.

Do You Hate Flossing? This One Is for You!

Philips-Soniccare-AirFlossLet’s get real. Do you floss every day? I mean every day? I keep those floss sticks next to my computer so I can try and remember to do it but overall, I don’t, so I too hear the groans from my dentist twice a year about my lack of. Thankfully someone has come along to try and help us get more consistent with it. PHILIPS Sonicare AirFloss ($89.99 @ target.comwalgreens.com) is sort of like a Waterpik that I used to use when I had braces as a teen but not as messy with the water squirting everywhere.

How this works is that it when the tip is inserted between two teeth, you press a button and it jets a quick burst of water and pressurized air (45 mph, they claim, wha???) to dislodge any food and also existing plaque.

I was first curious as to what I own dentist would think of this but in reading the fine print on their website, they worked with dental professionals in creating this product. Phew!

So no more sore tips of fingers from floss being wound too tight around fingers or making sure you make a perfect letter C with the floss around each tooth as I now have the AirFloss. And I love that it takes about 1 ½ minutes to complete both the top and bottom teeth after brushing!

Will you be trying this one out?

Spring Scents Part 3

Spring-Scents-Kat-Burki-L'Occitane-Lavanila
KAT BURKI Tubereuse
eau de parfum ($95/3.4oz @ katburki.com) – I wore this one quite a few times on my recent trip to Kauai and wow, just love the combination of peach nectar, orange, green leaves, tuberose, gardenia, jasmine all on a base of amber, rosewood and musk. Gorg!

L’OCCITANE Shower Gel in Jasmin & Bergamote ($18/5.9oz @ loccitane.com) – nothing wakes up my nose like an intoxicating shower gel. This one contains jasmine absolutes from Grasse (located in the south of France near Cannes) and Egypt and essential oils from Italy. This one is not one of those faux-scented products that overwhelms upon opening. It’s subtle and very pleasant.

LAVANILA Fresh Vanilla Lemon eau de parfum spray ($58/1.7oz @ sephora.com) – I thought this one might smell like a floor cleaner but phew, it doesn’t and the vanilla base makes it last on the skin. This also comes in a super convenient Eau de Parfum Rollerball for $19/.23oz.

Are You Into Matte? Try Lime Crime Velvetines!

Lime-Crime-Velvetines-in-Red-VelvetI’ve seen the LIME CRIME Velvetines at a few of the beauty trade shows in the past few months and everytime I went to pick one up … sold out ! So I put it in my file of must get and finally they are in stock on their site.

What it is: “a liquid lipstick that goes on like a gloss and dries to a matte, touch-proof finish.”

My take: yes, it’s a liquid lipstick and is very pigmented like house paint, so you must pay attention when applying it because once it sets, it stays on pretty good.

And when they say matte, they mean matte! A flat finish helps the longevity and I got about 4 hours of solid wear out of this. Touch-proof? I wouldn’t exactly say that though.

This Red Velvet is a dark blue red that seems that it will suit many skin tones but they also have Suedeberry that looks more like light more vibrant red. I might pick up that one too. $16.99 @ amazon.com.
