Keep Your Makeup On with Cover FX and Pixi

You’re look ain’t nuthin’ if your makeup is sliding off your face! Here are two that will help keep color where it belongs.

Cover-FX-Protection-Primer-Pixi-Beauty-Flawless-&-Poreless
COVER FX Protection Primer SPF 30 ($38/1oz @ sephora.com) – just like the name states, this one is great for daytime as it contains a SPF 30, it’s vegan and contains those light refracting elements to blur the appearance of lines.

PIXI BEAUTY Flawless & Poreless ($29/1oz @ target.com) – if you have prominent pores then you  should try this primer. It helps smooth them out and this one is shine controlling and oil-free. Comes in only one shade – No. 1 Translucent.

Spring Skin Must Haves

Spring-Skin-Must-HavesCLINIQUE Moisture Surge CC Cream Hydrating Colour Corrector Broad Spectrum SPF 30 ($35  @ ulta.com) – when their Moisture Surge products speak, I listen. Out this month is the next letter in the alphabets do-it-all product (for a breakdown of BB, CC and soon to be DD creams, click here). In a nutshell this one is Colour Correction, Hydration and Protection. Available in 6 shades.

BLISS “Fuzz Off” ($24/.5oz @ dermstore.com) – This is a “super-fast fresh-scented facial hair remover” and as we get older, who can’t use one? I admit, I can in certain areas of my face and this one is non-messy and contains aloe, willowherb and vitamin E and it works in 3 minutes.

KIEHL’S Skin Rescuer ($40/2.5oz @ neimanmarcus.com) – loving this latest release from Kiehl’s. It addresses all your skin’s short term and long term concerns in one bottle. It ups the hydration, improves fatigue and contains Rosa Gallica Botanical Extracts and Mannose, which they found helps with the skin’s reaction to stress and to help it bounce back.

BIOELEMENTS Oil Control Mattifier ($36/1oz @ dermstore.com) – oil ain’t sexy! Think of this cream as the blotting sheets you would have to use in a few hours should you not applied this one. And with the heat, your makeup is sure to slid off without it. If you’re a matte girl, this is your matte wish!

WHISH Hair Inhibiting Swipes in Pomegranate ($8/8pack, $20/20pack @ dermstore.com) – not sure how these work but I’ve been testing them on my left arm and I must say, they seem to be making the hair less noticeable. And this has some great ingredients in the wipes – Chaparral Extract (an anti-oxidant), hyaluronic acid, aloe and Shea Butter, among others.

Take Your Mani/Pedi Items with You with Caboodles

Caboodles-Gilded-Pleasure-Nail-Valet-outsideIt goes without saying that when I go to the nail salon, I bring my own instruments and I usually forgo the whirlpool bath unless I have these with me. So tucked under my arm is my roll-up case … until now. Now I can not only bring my own tools but also different nail polishes for when I can’t decide what shade I will want to wear. Check out this CABOODLES Gilded Pleasures Nail Valet. It’s just coming out and I think this will become a must-have for when you go to the salon.

Caboodles-Gilded-Pleasure-Nail-Valet

It’s two floors – the bottom will hold 24 polishes (will hold most sizes except the random tall ones), and then in the 2.5” tall top floor you can store your own clippers, file, cuticle pusher etc.

Overall the dimensions are 10” length x 7” width x 6.5” height and retails for $29.99 @ ulta.comtarget.com.

And how fun is the design of the case? Will you be picking one of these up?

Jewelry & Fragrance Go Hand-in-Hand with Lisa Hoffman

I think one of our beauty brands is onto something in the fragrance world and it’s the LISA HOFFMAN BEAUTY line and it’s called Fragrance Jewelry. What is it? Eco-friendly beads made from pure perfume housed in a charm that you wear on a necklace, bracelet or earrings. And the scents are not run-of-the-mill – there’s Japanese Agarwood (unique woody zest), Madagascar Orchid (exotic modern floral), Tuscan Fig (sophisticated sweet essence), Tunisian Neroli (sensuous classic floral) and French Clary Sage (clean watery linen). This was a Fifi Finalist in 2012, so while the concept is not brand new, they are branching out.

Lisa-Hoffman-Beauty-pearl-closed Lisa-Hoffman-Beauty-pearl-openUp until now, the jewelry looked a little, well, bohemian, and much too for my taste but this latest collaboration she is just coming out with is much more up my alley. It’s the Swarovski ELEMENTS Pearl Collection of bracelets, which uses their 8mm Crystal Pearls (choose from Crystal Creamrose or Crystal White pearls) and if you’ve ever felt their pearls, they are weighty and feel like the real thing but without the worry. And hanging from it is a silver or gold heart pendant where the fragrance beads reside. So talk with your hands when you wear your piece so everyone around you can enjoy the fragrance too.

And I saw on their site that there are some more collaborations so make sure to check it out.

$85 on dermstore.comlisahoffman.com.

Spring Makeup Helper Must Haves

Spring-Basic-Makeup-Must-HavesWhat are your go-to products for highlighting or un-highlighting areas on the face or helping it last throughout the day/night? Here are some I’ve been using and love.

To Make Eyes Pop - PIXI BEAUTY Extra Eye Bright Liner ($17 @ dermstore.com) – this super thin waterproof liner is meant to be worn on the water line or inner rim of the bottom lid. The pale white/pink/lavender color really brightens up any eye look.

To Highlight - ESTEE LAUDER Bronze Goddess Illuminating Powder Gelée in Heatwave ($40 @ ulta.com) -  highlight your cheeks, under the brows and even the décolletage with this new one from their Bronze Goddess Collection. Gorg.

My Go-To BB Cream - TARTE BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 Sunscreen ($34/1oz @ dermstore.com) – sunscreen (check), longevity (check), slight tint (check), nourishing ingredients (check). Available in 4 shades.

Banish Under-eye Circles - ORLANE Highlight Care Brush ($40 @ lordandtaylor.com) – I’d put this one up against this cult favorite any day! If you’re going to rock the Spring look, dark circles and rough under eyes won’t cut it. Get your glow on with this one.

Hold On Eye Shadow - SENNA COSMETICS Totally Transforming Eyeshadow Primer ($24 @ sennacosmetics.com) – there’s nothing worse than your eye shadow sliding off your lids from the heat, so this season, vow to wear an eye shadow primer every time. This one contains antioxidants and peptides and available in three shades.

Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb La Vie en Rose. Does It Pass?

Viktor-&-Rolf-Flowerbom-La-Vie-En-Rose-EDTI was pretty disappointed by VIKTOR & ROLF’s Spicebomb so I was a little hesitant to try their Flowerbomb La Vie en Rose but open to it none-the-less. This one is an eau de toilette but the to my nose, it's more like an eau de parfum, much to my delight! This is a fruitier version of the original and will be really nice for spring and summer. Two thumbs up.

  • Top notes: bergamot, mandarin, pink pepper, green tea
  • Heart: lily of the valley, rose, sugared almond, raspberry, red forest berries
  • Base: patchouli, cashmere, amber

Are you in the market for a new scent this season?

$80/1.7oz @ sephora.com.

And this also comes in a Body Mist form for $65/3.4oz.

Spring Color Must Haves

Bright pinks, reds, corals, nude and even seafoam are all hot colors for the spring. What are you updating your collection with this season? Here are my favorites right now. (L to R clockwise).

Spring-Color-Must-Haves-2013L’OREAL Infallible Liquid Eyeliner ($8.95 @ lorealparisusa.com) – When they come out with anything Infallible, I listen! A black liquid liner is very basic and crosses all seasons. This .4mm felt tip pen is pretty easy to apply and lasts for hours.

NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner in Barrow Street ($24 @ nordstrom.com) – I’m pretty obsessed with this seafoam green color. I have two dressed in the color and jumped for joy when I saw this liner in the same color. And it looks great on the waterline!

NAKED PRINCESS Naked Shine Luscious Lip Gloss in Barely Naked ($26 @ nakedprincess.com) – a great nude gloss is hard to find since most don’t show up. This one does, in spades but oh so naturally.

Buxom Hot Escapes Bronzer in Tahiti ($28 @ ulta.com) – what would the season be without a face highlighting bronzer? I’ve been using this golden bronze color just under my cheek bones to help define them.

BENEFIT Ultra Plush Lip Gloss in Poutrageous! ($16 @ amazon.com) – coral is not going anywhere this season and it’s hotter than ever, so if you’re feeling up to making a statement, take on this bright pink-coral color.

ZOYA PixieDust Nail Lacquer in Godiva ($10 @ zoya.com) – textured polishes are so hot right now and this PixieDust kind from Zoya are at the top of the list of must-haves. This Godiva one described as a soft nude with sugared sparkle. Yup, that’s exactly what it looks like on nails.

SEPHORA Colorful Eye Shadow in My Boyfriend’s Jeans No 19 ($13 @ sephora.com) – this dark denim with just a touch of shimmer blue is a nice alternative to always using black to contour your eyes.

Aqualilies Swim for Tarte

TARTE just came out with their Aqualillies for Tarte collection and it just screams Springtime! The colors of the packaging, the colors inside them; it all just works. Here are my picks from the collection.

Aqualilies-for-tarte-palette-eye-liner-and-finishing-powder

Product picks: Amazonian Clay Waterproof Eye and Cheek Palette ($38) – this is comprised of 6 new eye shadows, a bronzer, highlighter and limited-edition Amazonian Clay 12-hour blush. All gorg and totally workable colors, right?

Amazonian Waterproof Liner in Splash ($24) – it’s no secret that I absolutely love teal and this one is gorgeous! And this comes with a duo angled brush to help you get the best application.

Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder ($29) – finishing powders are becoming big with quite a few brands putting them out and the timing is nice because they help keep makeup in place when the temperatures rise. As the name states, this one has their star ingredient Amazonian Clay in it so it helps keep the skin balanced while improving the texture and combat oil.

Glamazon Pure Performance 12-hour Lipstick ($26 and limited edition!) – this vibrant coral is right on trend and can you believe the Aqualillies wear this while performing in the pool? They had to make their signature shade waterproof, right?

Some of this collection is available @ ulta.com.

Beauty Addicts Show Off Mascara

Beauty-Addicts-Show-Off-MascaraWhy am I super surprised when I come across a mascara that actually works? I guess because I try so many out that well, suck. The one I’m touting as yeah is BEAUTY ADDICTS Show Off Mascara ($20 @ beautyaddicts.com). I’ve only met two people in my life who are fine with just there lashes and just giving them a small boost. Most want wah-wah-wow lashes and I fall into that category.

The result reminds me of this one as it gives long, defined lashes and the formula contains Argan Oil to condition the hairs. Ok, that’s a first.

It clumped a little when I was putting it on but I was able to work those out with the curved brush. It didn’t flake off or smudge and I got about full evening (3 different times) of wear before it started to fade off. This one comes in Jet Black. Thanks BA!!

Review: NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder

Sometimes seeing is believing and that is surely the case with NARSnew Light Reflecting Setting Powder in Translucent Crystal. It looks white in the container but know that it doesn’t show up white when you buff it onto the skin, just transluscent. It contains vitamin E and glycerin, which is supposed to help hold makeup in place, as well as what they call Photochromic Technology to diffuse the light and adjust to new sources of light throughout the day. Speaking of, of course I need to share how long this lasted on my skin but it was hard to tell but I’d put it at about 4 hours.

NARS-Light-Reflecting-Loose-Setting-PowderThe powder is so finely milled, probably the most finely these eyes have ever seen. But what I’m most impressed with is the finishing touch it gives to your look and though I don’t have oily skin, I think this will be a great one for those that struggle with excess face oil and they will get a few more hours out of their look. This one also comes in a pressed form. Have you tried either of these yet? $34 @ sephora.com.
