Review+ Swatches - Sephora Cream Lip Stain

I totally think of Ms. Dita when it comes to SEPHORA Cream Lip Stain in 01 Always Red ($12 @ sephora.com). It’s thee matte bold blue red I’m always looking out for. And this one is sooo pigmented and stays where you put it. If your lips are prone to lipstick bleed, just make sure to use one like this one as lippie insurance. Made with avocado oil, the formula is really lightweight and takes a steady hand when it comes to precision. Do you dare?

Kicking Off the 2011 Holiday Gift Guide

Of course price is always a factor when picking out a gift for someone in your life. However, if it’s something so spot on and not too much more than I wanted to spend, I’ll usually get it. For me, nailing the perfect gift is so important as I know how both sides of it feel – you receive something you’d never wear/use/give the time of day (do you even know me??) and then the other side of when someone gives you something so spot on, it gives you chills! So my 2011 Holiday Beauty Gift Guide will run all over the map when it comes to price points.

I'm so excited for this feature and have been sitting on some of these products for a few weeks now!

And how do you know it’s a gift pick? This year, the feature will have two crossing candy canes. So let’s kick off the picks with LM ...

Laura-Mercier-Travel-Brush-Set Holiday-2011-Product-PickI’m a firm believer in giving a gift that will last many months to come. When it comes to the beauty-ista in your life, there’s nothing better to receive then a good set of makeup brushes. LAURA MERCIER’s Travel Brush Set ($85 @ macys.com) is all the basics in a convenient and compact set. Each brush is double-sided and is tucked in a removeable mesh pouch that holds on using magnets. Love that.

Set includes:
- Double-Ended Secret Camouflage Powder Brush
- Double-Ended Allover Eye Color Ponytail Brush
- Double-Ended Flat Eyeliner/Smudge Brush
- Double-Ended Brow Definer/Brow Grooming Brush
- Finishing Brush

It's Bobbi's Party. Are You Attending?

Bobbi-Brown-Bobbi's-Party-eau-de-parfumBOBBI BROWN is having a party and you’re invited! She just put out Bobbi’s Party Eau de Parfum and they claim this is for the holiday season, but I’m thinking it will surely fit into more ops like days, eves and more. If you like your scents to help you make a big entrance, this may be one you need to get a whiff of. Inspired by(it) the holidays but not smelling like(it) them, Ms. Brown says she was really inspired by old Hollywood glamour (seems like every Creator says this these days) and I think she nailed it in a very modern way. This floral has notes of violet leaf, rose petal, sandalwood and is very light and airy yet heady. $60/1.7oz @ neimanmarcus.com.

Bath Time with Bella Lucce

It’s full-on bath season and this past weekend I celebrated again with BELLA LUCCE’s Asian Indulgences Goji Berry Bath Bliss. I’m pretty bananas about hard water in that I don’t want it, so this hybrid bath tea/milk bath was a welcome treat since it really softens the water so beautifully. And the ingredients are really A+: Coconut fruit juice powder, Epsom salts, Goji Berry fruit, among a few others and this one contains 97% natural ingredients. And because it’s in a powder form, it will last on your shelf longer (18 months).

And this comes with a large steeping ball that you fill with a couple of scoops of the powder and drop in the bath water. Not everything has to be complicated, even when it comes to beauty. $38/7.6oz @ bellalucce.com.

Review+Swatch - NARS Larger Than Life Lip Gloss

Nars-Larger-Than-Life-Lip-GlossesI am really late in getting to these NARS Larger Than Life Lip Glosses but it’s kind of working out since I got a new camera and can now get some great real life shots of them.

What it is: Outrageously lustrous color meets serious shine in this NARS gloss. Its stay-in-place dramatic shade glides on smoothly and evenly for lips that are more luminous and voluminous than ever before. Long-lasting, high-shine hues are infused with ingredients that nourish and fight free radicals while natural lip enhancers pump up with volume. A new, shorter bristle brush delivers the most precise application possible. However you want to express yourself, Larger Than Life Lip Gloss says it boldly, brilliantly, and brazenly.

Sojourn Takes Care of Hair

Sojourn-Colour-Preserve-Shampoo-and-ConditionerWith this line brings the second time this year I’ve heard about the topic of pH and hair care products, as in, keeping the pH level of shampoo and styling products between a certain range will help keep treatments longer. Why is this good? From what I understand, a product’s pH plays a big factor in how long your hair color or treatment stays in the strands. When you have hair color put in for example, the cuticle must be opened up to deposit the formula, and it must be above a 5.5. So if you use a shampoo and other styling products that have a high pH, you are opening the cuticle and removing the color/treatment every time you use them. Makes sense.

When I met with the very knowledgeable Cindy from Zerrans here, they were the first ones to bring this fact up to me and their line is also pH-friendly. So now you’re probably wondering how the products you currently have in your bathroom will fair. If you’re up for it, Cindy says to get some litmus paper and test them. Yup, the same litmus paper you used to use in science class, and test your shampoos and conditioners. Bring on science class 101 again! Anyway, back to the products. The line is called SOJOURN and was created by Vidal Sassoon’s son Elan, so you know he knows something about hair, right? He studied the hair in its natural state and determined that the idea pH range is 4.5 to 5.5 so all the products fall in that range or lower. And they also incorporate keratin into the formula with what they call Keratin Cashmere Protein to really help moisturize strands and keep it strong. The line is also 100% biodegradable and free from parabens, formaldehyde, and sulfates.

And he’s made it easy for us to get the most out of the line by breaking it into four different collections – Smooth (the peach bottles), Moisture (the sky blue bottles), Volume (the moss colored bottles) and the one I tried, Colour Preserve (the ivory bottles shown here). Prices range between $20 and $26 @ amazon.com.

RBB-Nail-PolishAlways on the hunt for thee perfect non-pinky nude nail color, I was recently led to the RGB nail line of polishes. This Nail Color is called Camel, a creamy opaque beige, and is so my nude of the moment. $16 @ rgbcosmetics.com.
