A Smooth Move from Davines

Davines-Lovely-Smoothing-Conditioner I’ve had some pretty good luck with conditioners from the DAVINES line and I had the opportunity to try another one. Now I’m not sure if it’s the weather in LA or perhaps the time of year but my hair has been kind of unruly lately and a-typically on the dry side. Their new Lovely Smoothing Conditioner really did the trick in getting my strands back on the right track. It really felt like I used a deep conditioner even though this one only required about 2 minutes on the head.

It contains rice wax and an unusually high level of vitamin E as well as Borage Seed Oil, which helps with the hydration and a little goes a long way.

$25/8.4oz @ net-a-porter.com.

Do You Smell Spring Yet? Saffron James Does.

Saffron-James-IPO-Eau-de-Parfum I think the groundhog was wearing this next scent when he came out of his hole a few weeks ago to  predict an early spring arrival! SAFFRON JAMESIPO Eau de Parfum ($85/9ml @ saffronjames.com) pays homage to the Pakalana flower (also called the Chinese Violet), which was introduced to Hawaii from southern China in the early 1800s. It also has notes of Moroccan rose, orange blossom, Tahitian gardenia and lemongrass. Very Springtime feeling … and smelling.

Get Luxurious with Oils from Patyka and Rodin

I just did a quick look at my beauty routine and a lot of the products I’m currently using are oils – a night oil for my face, a styling oil for my hair and others. Here are two more I'm adding to the line up!

Rodin-Olio-Lusso-and-Patyka-Precious-Woods-Body-Oil RODIN Olio Lusso Luxury Face Oil – this product has quite the cult following and I can see why! The ingredients are all really-good-for-skin oils like Jasmine Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Jojoba Seed oil, and Evening Primrose Oil to name a few. I could do without the combo neroli/jasmine oil scent but I’m getting used to it. $140/1oz @ amazon.com.

PATYKA Precious Woods Body Oil – The French line redesigned their packaging last fall for their Absolis collection but thankfully didn’t change anything inside their ECOCERT certified products. This oil is 100% natural with 97.94% of them organically sourced - Wheat Germ Oil, Ylang Ylang, St. John’s Wort, Sesame, Sunflower, and Olive to name a few. And the natural scent is a little musky, a little woody, just right for this time of year. $65/8.4oz @ patyka.com.

A New L'Oreal Infallible Lippie Collection

L'Oreal-Infallible-Le-Rouge-Lipcolor Another day, another L’OREAL PARIS Infallible Collection! These Infallible Le Rouge lippies are some of my favorites right now and they are quite different from these in a few ways. First they are really moisturizing that I can feel it when I smack my lips together. It contains Color Fix technology, which is a flexible polymer that gives it greater adhesion that won’t flake. And it doesn’t!

They claim 10-hours of lasting color but I wouldn’t go that far but yes on a couple of moisturizing hours, which in my book is worth it. Color picks L to R: #312 Ravishing Red, #423 Perpetual Peach and #138 Forever Fuschia. $9.99 @ target.com.

What Is that Smell in Morrocanoil?

I think at this point just about everybody is familiar with the force that is MOROCCANOIL hair products. Ask anyone about the treatment oil and pretty much the first thing out of their mouth is, “I love the way it smells…” and so do I. I heard from a reliable source that the scent inside their products is actually the woody oriental classic JEAN PAUL GAULTIER Le Male Eau de Toilette. So I did my own smell test and lo and behold if it doesn’t smell almost exactly like it! Give your nose the sniff test next time you’re in Sephora let me know if you agree. Check out all their products @ sephora.com

Review: Spornette Porcupine Hair Brush

Sometimes a hair tool comes along that is so serious and so solid, I thank the beauty product Gods that I do what I do here on Cybelesays.com! This SPORNETTE (take a deep breathe for the name …) Porcupine Hair Brush Boar and Nylon Bristle Rounder Wooden Handle 3” is such a serious styler that I’ve only been using it for when I’m really going to put some time into styling my hair.

So with regard to the name, does it really have porcupine quills in it or is that just in the name? The description on their site doesn’t make mention of any real quills used, only boar and nylon bristles, so I’m guessing not. And because it has both styles of bristles, this is a good brush for styling damp hair or dry.

Spornette-G36XL-Super-Porcupine
Out of all five styles, I find this 3” one the most useful – the handle is not too thin or too thick and hard to handle. $10.99 @ birchbox.comspornette.com.

Bare Escentuals Throws It's Hat in the Primer Ring

Bare-Escentuals-Prime-Time-Foundation-and-Eyelid-Primer Is a face or eye primer part of your makeup routine? I know it is for me. To me it’s like putting on a base coat for my nail polish. The latest one to arrive is from BARE ESCENTUALS and it adds a touch of luminosity to its formula. Their Prime Time Brightening Foundation Primer ($21/1oz) is 100% pure bareMinerals and made to wear under your bareMinerals Foundation. And they also just put out a bareVitamins Prime Time Eyelid Primer ($16), which has a nice shimmer to it that is nice alone or under any eye shadow. Both @ bareescentuals.com

Nyx Cosmetics Solves Your Makeup Woes

NYX-Cosmetics-Eye-&-Lip-Makeup-Remover Now don’t go looking for organic and natural ingredients in a makeup remover. From what I’ve seen, you just won’t find one out there! So my goal was to find one that does the job but doesn’t cost a lot. I will pay a pretty penny for a good quality product but a $30 makeup remover is just not something I am comfortable buying. This Eye & Lip Makeup Remover from NYX COSMETICS is one I’ve been using the past few weeks and am very satisfied with the results and for only $8/2.8oz @ amazon.com. Even though I don’t wear waterproof mascara, I do wear this and a few of these and at the end of the day, they are hard to get off. Well a few swipes of some of this with a saturated cotton ball and it removes the color lickety-split! While it does contain one questionable ingredient in it, it does have a dash of orange and papaya fruit extracts, so it’s not all chemicals.

This product contains  Benzyl Alcohol, which is seen by some as an ingredient of concern. Read my ingredient disclaimer here.
