New Line Alert! Argan Magic

Argan-Magic-Soothing-Skin-Salve-with-Orange-Blossom If you’re all into the products that contain Argan Oil these days, you might want to check out this new ARGAN MAGIC line. Not only do their products contain 100% pure Argan Oil but the oil is cold compressed, which helps keep the rich Omega Fatty Acids in tact instead of the more popular, and cheaper way, of heat processing it .

My pick of the line right now is their Soothing Skin Salve. Salves are so multi-functional – use it on the skin to soften, hair for fly-a-ways, cuticles, really anywhere and everywhere. In addition to the cold pressed Argan Oil, this one also contains Safflower Seed Oil, Sweet Almond Oil and a great Orange Blossom and Pomegranate scent. $22/1.5oz @ arganmagicbeauty.com.

Kiss Puts Out a False Eyelash Helper

I participated in a webinar the other day for KISS’s new Premium Eyelashes with Application Strings. Yup, someone has finally created an easier way to make putting false eyelashes on. And it actually works! There is a red string on either side of the lash which you hold in between your fingers. These help in getting the lash to lay exactly right on each lid. And then after the lash glue is dry, just gently pull the strings off and you’re done!

The only two issues with these that I can see - not being able to trim them if the band is too long for your eye (you can’t but they assured us on the webinar they were working on this issue) and the fact that while the lashes can be used a few times, the red string part is a one-time-use-only benefit.

Out of the styles you see here, 7 are made from premium hair and two are synthetic (04 and 06).

Available for $3.99 starting February 1st @ walgreens.com and some styles will be only be available @ Walmart stores.

Zoya-Spring-2011-Intimate-Collection Have you seen ZOYA’s Spring 2011 Intimate Nail Polish Collection yet? Not a red or pink in the bunch and … I like it! I never thought I’d see the day where grays, khakis and golds would rule the season! There are a few favorites but doesn’t the Dannii color just not fit with the others? Great colors overall! $10 @ ulta.com

Get Glycolic with NeoStrata

NeoStrata-Foaming-Glycolic-Wash I’ve addressed the benefit of glycolic acid on this site before and believe in using them regularly on the skin to reap the long-term benefits of it. You can get it in many forms and NEOSTRATA has one in a face cleanser. Their Foaming Glycolic Wash ($32/3.4oz @ amazon.com) uses 18% strength, is pH balanced and also contains Lactobionic acid, which helps with wrinkles.

What kind of cleanser are you using these days?

Bobbi Brown Gets Pretty Powerful

Bobbi-Brown-Pretty-Powerful-PalettesI think at this point we’ve all owned makeup palettes where most of the colors just aren’t wearable. Personally I’ve accepted it as part of life! Thankfully BOBBI BROWN has the knack for putting together good ones where all the colors inside are usable. The latest two she has put out contain a full face in each one.

Pretty Face Palette – designed for light to medium complexions, this one has four neutral eye shadows that can be worn for day or eve looks by just adding the Chocolate Caviar Eye Shadow in the crease. This one also contains a new color of blush, Pretty Pink Blush, which is a warm baby pink. And top off lips with any of the three pinks. My picks is the Sandwash Pink Lip Color.

Powerful Face Palette – this palette seems little more … less neutral, well at least a little bit. They consider this one ideal for medium and deep complexions. I mean the shadows are on the darker nude side and three lippies also on the darker side. But what stand out for me in this one is the Plum Blush. Really flattering! $60 each @ dillards.com.

Trying a Cult Favorite

Borghese-Fango-Active-Mud-for-Face-and-Body I seemed to have fallen behind in my face mask usage and what better way to get back on board than with a cult favorite? The mask is from Italian brand BORGHESE and it’s their cult favorite Fango Active Mud for Face and Body. Not only does the product have quite the following but it just celebrated 25 years in production! No small feat. So what’s so great about this algae looking gunk? Well it is made with mud from a volcano located in Tuscany so it’s really rich in minerals and botanicals. It also contains their trademarked Acqua di Vita Complex ingredient, which is found in many of their products and they claim it’s a mood enhancer. Fascinating!

So if you are considering this one, know that it does triple duty – cleans out pours, exfoliates and hydrates. Got a few to kill? Apply a thin layer on the face, neck and décolletage and relax. $33.50/7oz, $64/17.6oz @ macys.com.

Kilian, Kilian, Take Me Away!

By-Kilian-Straight-to-Heaven I sometimes feel like I’m a fragrance push over in that I seem to be pretty easy going when it comes to what I like but am I? I mean, this latest fragrances collection that came out for the holidays from the KILIAN line is called L’Oeuvre Noire, a few are yeahs and a few are ehs but one in particular I will be keeping close to my heart and on my pulse points. The names of the scents themselves in the collection  seem to resonate with what I’m being proactive about it right now, which is finding love. Not that these scents are those hokey pheromone-based fragrances that promise to attract Mr. Right but more of just … sensual and feminine to maybe give the user an added boost when it comes to letting my true self come out.

Just check out these names in the collection: A Taste of Heaven, Black to Black, Love & Tears, Beyond Love, Straight to Heaven, Prelude to Love, Liasons to Dangereuses, A Taste of Heaven, and Cruel Intentions. I tried a few of the samples sizes and I think I’m feeling the Straight to Heaven Eau de Parfum most right now. It’s inspired by Damascus Plum and I would file this in the Oriental category. Comprised of Martinican rum absolute, dried fruits accord, Javanese nutmeg oil, hedione, cedarwood, Indonesian patchouli oil, ambergris, vanilla absolute and white musk. It’s simply wow and really makes a statement. If you are not one to demand the attention in the room when you walk in, you may want to forgot this one. $4/sample, $225/1.7oz @ net-a-porter.com.

What are you looking to bring into your life this year?

Product Review: Hard Candy Hide & Glow Cheek

Hard-Candy-Hide-&-Glow-Cheek I tend to have a heavy hand when applying blush. Cream, powder, it really doesn’t matter as I always have to check and double check again for exiting the house to make sure I don’t look a little clownish. That’s why I’m raving about HARD CANDY’s Hide & Glow Cheek ($8 @ amazon.com). The formula is in between a cream and a gel and it’s pretty hard to overdo it with these. Choose from 3 color duos, mine being Hot Date, which is a red on one side and a dark berry on the other.

Is Kitoko the Next Phase of Hair Oils?

Affinage-Kitoko-Oil-Treatment I’m really into these hair oils and Moroccanoil is not the only brand out there to choose from anymore. There are quite a few I’ve come across and I think we’re at the crossroads for a new breed of one. One that I think fits this bill that recently came out from the AFFINAGE line is called Kitoko Oil Treatment. It’s enriched with omega oils, Shea Butter, antioxidants and vitamins to not only strengthen hair but bring it back from whatever has been ailing it. It can be used as a hair finishing product as it tames frizzies and it also contains naturally derived UV filters. Let’s hear it for a product that protects hair color! $26.70/3.2oz @ affinage.com.

Paddywax Pays Tribute to Some of the Greats

Paddywax-Library-Collection-of-Candles When I was in college, I took the mandatory literature classes but come senior year, I wanted a relatively easy semester and decided to forgo the Shakespeare class given by one of my favorite teachers, Meera Tamaya. And as you can probably guess since I am mentioning it in the post, I do regret it to this day! She was just one of those teachers.

At this point, I guess the least I can do is dedicate this review to her and what better way than with the PADDYWAX Library Collection. Now that I’ve burned these two down to their nubs, I’m onto the next candle. There are five different scent collections that pay homage to some influential writers – Jane Austen (gardenia, tuberose, jasmine. Love this one!!), Edgar Allen Poe (cardamom, absinthe, sandalwood), Walt Whitman (grass, thyme, red clover) and Henry David Thoreau (cedar, moss, juniper). And the packaging is also just so fitting with the schoolbook looking matte colors and each bestows some of their famous quotes on the outside. Choose from a glass packed candle, a travel tin candle or a diffuser. So here’s to you Ms. Meera Tamaya! $25/9oz/glass container, $28/4oz/Diffuser, $8/2-wick travel tin candle @ amazon.com.
