Urban Decay x Kristen Leanne Kaleidoscope Dream Palette

Urban-Decay-x-KRISTEN-LEANN-Kaleidoscope-Dream-Eyeshadow-Palette
In continuing coverage of the URBAN DECAY x KRISTEN LEANNE Collection, we come to this  Kaleidoscope Dream Eyeshadow Palette. This palette is full of a lot of accent colors and I just love it so far! The pressed powders are all buttery smooth and seem to blend well. I wore Spitfire, a bright pink satin w/purple shift and the holographic green pearl shift shades called Leo, last night and they really kicked my eye look into overdrive.

As with most UD products, they’re not afraid of bright or bold colors and every color in this palette just seems to go so well with the co-creator. I’m just ecstatic about this palette, if you can’t tell, and the price tag of $39 is so reasonable.

I do have to wonder about the “stay gold” written on the mirrors of this palette and the other two. Is it a reference to The Outsiders movie? I’m going to tweet her to find out.

Urban Decay always seems to pay attention to the brushes they include with a palette. This one has a nice blending brush on one side and a crease brush on the other. Nice!

Is this something you will be adding to your collection? Available @ urbandecay.com.

Just out from URBAN DECAY is the UD x KRISTEN LEANNE Collection. I previewed the collection on my Instagram Stories and archived them, so please check the pics out and hopefully I can get the items reviewed quickly!

What it is: Kristen Leanne is a cruelty-free beauty influencer known for bright colors, glitter, beautiful tattoos and her full-of-life personality. Her videos range from everyday wearable looks to over-the-top glam tutorials, utilizing her artistry and creativity every step of the way. We tapped into Kristen's amazing makeup talent and discovered what inspires her. Then we bounced color ideas back and forth until we created her perfect makeup collection.

First up, the ud x KRISTEN LEANNE Vice Lipsticks ($17 @ urbandecay.com). I just love all the holographic colors of the packaging! From the box to the hot pink caps, they really paid attention to detail to make it all Kristen Leanne. And her name on the body of the lipsticks is also a nice touch.

Colors:

  • Spellbound (deep plum) mega matte
  • Cloud9 (magenta) comfort matte
  • Bun Bun (nude) comfort matte – Bun Bun is the nickname of her bunny, Brixton!

Like all VICE lipsticks, these are smooth as can be with the mega matte lasting longer on lips than the comfort mattes.

Kick It Up with Glitter Liners from Urban Decay

Urban-Decay-Heavy-Metal-Glitter-main

Urban-Decay-Heavy-Metal-Glitter-side-view

If you’re reading this post, you’re probably a pretty big fan of makeup and have probably worn or tried your hand at wearing glitter. It can be tricky for sure as fall out can be annoying if you don’t apply it with a medium. URBAN DECAY probably has your easiest answer with their Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner ($20 @ urbandecay.com, ulta.com). It’s a super-fine glitter suspended in a water-base formula that is buildable. There are 13 available here and I’ve swatched 11 of them here for you.

As far as how these performed overall, once they dry down, they set nicely and don’t move, flake or shed.

Urban-Decay-Heavy-Metal-Glitter-swatches-in-the-sun

From L to R (pic taken in sun):

  • Gamma Ray (bright blue and silver glitter)
  • ACDC (bright purple glitter)
  • Distortion (iridescent glitter)
  • Midnight Cowboy (gold glitter)
  • Grind (lt pink iridescent glitter)
  • Punk Rock (iridescent brown glitter)
  • Pyro (iridescent and silver glitter)
  • Spandex (deep blue-black with iridescent glitter)
  • Glam Rock (silver glitter)
  • Stix and Bones (iridescent maroon glitter)
  • Catcall (pink glitter)

The actual formulas are interesting. Some of them have colored water-based solution and some have a clear water-based solution. Colors like Punk Rock, Spandex, Stix and Bones and Catcall have a tinted liquid with the glitter and the others look to be just colored glitter in a water-based liquid. Both types have a use so see the descriptions above.

Urban-Decay-Heavy-Metal-Glitter-liner-brush

As you can see from the picture above, the brush is super thin, which is great since I tend to like to apply just a hint of glitter liner when wearing but you can run the liner across your skin over bigger areas and these are not just for lining eyes! I’m not sure where else I’d put liner but if you have a way, please share in the comments!

Heavy Metal with Urban Decay

Urban-Decay-Heavy-Metal-Eyeshadow-Palette
So here we are at the start of the holiday season onslaught of beauty products. Yeah!! Starting me off is the URBAN DECAY Heavy Metals Metallic Eyeshadow Palette ($55 @ urbandecay.com, sephora.com) from their Heavy Metals Collection.

What It Is: A shadow mayhem in a crushed metal case. We packed this limited-edition palette with 20 of our most amped-up metallic shadows yet—and every single one is NEW and exclusive.

What sets Heavy Metals apart? We developed a whole new Eyeshadow formula for this palette. We bumped up the foiled effect to create our most metallic shadows ever. In doing so, we carefully crafted the formula on every shade to make sure each one would apply with a soft and creamy texture and create intense, shiny metallic effects. Every shade has a velvety feel for the perfect application, provides insane color payout and blends like a dream.

My Take: It seems like shimmery or glittery shadows have been making a comeback these days. It’s certainly been matte, matte, matte, but it makes sense since you can certainly wear a whole look of all mattes and look normal but it you did that with shimmers or glitters, you better be headed to an 80’s party.

While I usually do a 2:3 ratio when it comes to eye shadows (2 are mattes and 1 is a shimmer or other texture), these will certainly give me many options to experiment with!

As far as quality, I always expect a lot from UD and they usually deliver with the exception of a few shades, like Dive and Starfire that were not quite up to snuff, but the rest were good, even the duo chromes.

As far as the packaging goes, I kind of like it and the mirror in the middle. In the handful of times I’ve used this, I find myself using this mirror instead of my makeup mirror to apply the shadows.

One tip they have listed on their site is to spray a makeup brush with their All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray before dipping into a color. Great idea!

Is this something you think you’ll pick up? It’s limited-edition so don’t miss out if you plan on it.

Testing Out the Hottest Mascaras!

L'Oreal-Buxom-and-Urban-Decay-mascaras
There seems to be a bit of buzz on the above mascaras:

  • BUXOM Big Tease Plumping Mascara
  • URBAN DECAY Troublemaker
  • L’OREAL Voluminous Lash Paradise

So I thought I’d do a post about all three comparing how they look, apply and last. First up is L’Oreal.

L'Oreal-Voluminous-Lash-Paradise-Mascara-in-Mystic-Black

L'Oreal-Voluminous-Lash-Paradise-mascara-wand

L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise ($8.99 @ target.com) - Our 1st mascara for voluptuous volume & length now with even more black pigments. Soft wavy bristle brush holds maximum formula for a dramatic volumizing charge. 200+ bristles catch every lash for a full fringe effect.

My thoughts – I thought this one was good for a daytime work look. It doesn’t give over-the-top lashes but just enough on each hair. The brush reminded me of the one from Better Than Sex.

Urban-Decay-Troublemaker-mascara-on-eye

Urban-Decay-Troublemaker-Mascara-wand

Urban Decay Troublemaker ($24 @ urbandecay.com, ulta.com) – Get super-fat, super-long, sex-proof lashes. This mascara is so good it should be illegal. Urban Decay's Troublemaker Mascara delivers 13.7x the lash volume,* and sexy, fluttery, intensely black lashes. The failsafe formula volumizes and lengthens as it separates, while UD's custom brush grabs onto lashes, curling as it coats. UD loaded up this mascara with insane benefits - for thicker, impossibly long, perfectly fanned-out lashes.

My thoughts – I had super high expectations for this one and for me, it just didn’t deliver. My lashes were not as big as they could have been. I mean, look at the picture! I did try to build it and build it. If you are looking for definition, this one seems to do that well.

Buxom-Big-Tease-Plumping-Mascara-on-lashes

Buxom-Big-Tease-Plumping-Mascara

Buxom Big Tease Plumping Mascara ($22 @ ulta.com) – (this one) instantly plumps lashes, delivering maximum volume, and noticeably longer lashes for a full and flirty look. A unique blend of 3 high-performing and perfectly calibrated waxes delivers a smooth and creamy application experience, coating every surface, from root to tip, resulting in heavyweight volume, length, & lift. A conical shaped brush releases just the right amount of product and allows you to reach base-to-tip intensity, while individual chisel-tipped fibers divide and conquer every lash for a non-clumpy, lash multiplying effect.

My thoughts – out of all three mascaras, this one delivered the most fierce and, well, plumped up lashes, however, it was also the most difficult one to work with. The conical brush helped but it was like applying 3 coats at one time and I felt a tad clumpy in places even though I went over and over areas. What I did like about this mascara is is that you can applying this mascara over already mascara’d lashes. Like go to work, come home, get ready to go out and use this mascara to create a night time sexy look. This one has a place on my makeup table.

Urban Decay Turns Up the Naked Heat

Urban-Decay-Naked-Heat-palette-main
Who knew I would fall so in love with the new Naked Heat ($54 @ urbandecay.com, ulta.com, macys.com) palette from URBAN DECAY; it’s heating up my summer! It’s part of the Fall 2017 collection and has all the makings of a success. I mean, take a look at the Modern Renaissance palette from Anastasia Beverly Hills. It seems like a lot of the shades I see used in tutorials from that palette are similar to some in this one. I mean, they’re not dupes, but a few are in the same family for sure.

Modern Renaissance VS Naked Heat - Who wins?

And I’m sure I’ll be using this one just as much (the Anastasia one in the picture is my second one I’ve bought!).

I don’t think there is much more I can say about this palette except to pick it up!

And also new are two 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils ($20 @ urbandecay.commacys.com). The shades are Alkaline, a deep wine, and Torch, described as sienna. I swear by their liners for their long-lasting and the shades are just really wearable.

Will you be picking up these products?

Urban Decay Gets Even More Naked

Urban-Decay-Go-Naked-perfume-oil
Urban-Decay-Go-Naked-perfume-oil-2
Fragrance has been on the top of my mind and here’s another one to consider! As you know, URBAN DECAY loves naked and all things naked so it doesn’t surprise me that they named this one ‘Go Naked’ It’s a concentrated perfume oil and wow is this one tropical and summery! Maybe something you would wear when naked perhaps?

Notes: Italian bergamot, lavender, citrus, neroli, sea salt, musk. For me, the middle notes really shine through with the really orange blossom really standing out to my nose.

Does Urban Decay's Latest Really Melt Makeup?

Urban-Decay-Meltdown-Makeup-Remover-products
Urban-Decay-Meltdown-Makeup-Remover-products-2
I must say that I'm surprised by the latest releases from URBAN DECAY. I mean, when I think of skin care, I don't think of Urban Decay. I think of makeup! And darn good makeup at that. But being that I'll try anything once, I give you the Meltdown Makeup Remover Collection.

Comprised of:

Meltdown Makeup Remover Cleansing Oil Stick $26/1.58oz @ urbandecay.com, sephora.com, ulta.com
Meltdown Makeup Remover Lip Oil Stick $15/.06oz @ urbandecay.com, sephora.com, ulta.com
Meltdown Makeup Remover Dissolving Spray $26/3.38oz @ urbandecay.comsephora.com, ulta.com

So let’s talk about the good news first. The Cleansing Oil Stick. Love. It. The deodorant-looking tube houses an oil-based balm that removes just about any kind of makeup you put on. And it contains the hottest ingredient of the moment, turmeric, as well as vitamin E and sunflower seed extract.

Urban-Decay-Meltdown-Makeup-Remover-Cleansing-Oil-Stick-up-close
Just start rubbing the balm onto skin directly from the tube; no need to wet skin first. Easy peasy!

I wish I had better news about the other two products here. They simply didn’t perform as well. I had pretty high expectations for the Lip Oil and all the different types of lippies out there. I tried two different kinds of liquid lipsticks and a traditional and it didn’t even get the traditional one off well.

And the Dissolving Spray? Hard pass.

A New Beauty Category You Didn't Know You Needed

Urban-Decay-Vice-Soecial-Effects-Topcoats
Lot of buzz in this pretty new category of “lip toppers.” They are special effects you can put on top of your lipstick to give it a unique texture/color/effect. I’ve seen a few brands come out with these with most people dismissing it as just a fancy lip gloss, which I thought they might be too, but not in the case of these from URBAN DECAY. It’s their Vice Special Effects Topcoats ($18 @ urbandecay.com, ulta.com).

Urban-Decay-Vice-Soecial-Effects-Topcoats-box

What I like is that I can take a regular ol’ lipstick, apply a topper, and this makes the whole lip color dry down like a liquid lipstick. Speaking of, I tried some of these with liquid lipsticks and wow, my lips felt like they were suffocating, so I wouldn’t recommend using these with one.

The duos that I sported (tried with NARS, Maybelline, and MAC) and even though the formulas didn’t move, they seemed to still be a tad transferable.

Urban-Decay-Vice-Soecial-Effects-Topcoats-brush

What I dislike immensely is the brush. The skinny brush looks cheap and makes the product hard to apply evenly. Come on, UD! We certainly expect more at this point in your life.

Urban-Decay-Vice-Soecial-Effects-Topcoats-swatches
Shown here:

Copycat (by itself), a bright pink with iridescent glitter - Copycat on top of Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Mysterious Red

White Lie (by itself), an iridescent white with blue-violet shift - White Lie on top of Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Mysterious Red

What I like: you can really get creative with these! Every single lipstick topper will give you a different color with a lipstick, so if you like to be unique, this could be something you’ll want to try out.

Choose from 12 shades total!
