A New Beauty Category You Didn't Know You Needed

Urban-Decay-Vice-Soecial-Effects-Topcoats
Lot of buzz in this pretty new category of “lip toppers.” They are special effects you can put on top of your lipstick to give it a unique texture/color/effect. I’ve seen a few brands come out with these with most people dismissing it as just a fancy lip gloss, which I thought they might be too, but not in the case of these from URBAN DECAY. It’s their Vice Special Effects Topcoats ($18 @ urbandecay.com, ulta.com).

What I like is that I can take a regular ol’ lipstick, apply a topper, and this makes the whole lip color dry down like a liquid lipstick. Speaking of, I tried some of these with liquid lipsticks and wow, my lips felt like they were suffocating, so I wouldn’t recommend using these with one.

The duos that I sported (tried with NARS, Maybelline, and MAC) and even though the formulas didn’t move, they seemed to still be a tad transferable.

What I dislike immensely is the brush. The skinny brush looks cheap and makes the product hard to apply evenly. Come on, UD! We certainly expect more at this point in your life.

White Lie (by itself), an iridescent white with blue-violet shift - White Lie on top of Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Mysterious Red

What I like: you can really get creative with these! Every single lipstick topper will give you a different color with a lipstick, so if you like to be unique, this could be something you’ll want to try out.

Urban Decay Gets Razor Sharp with their Latest

Urban-Decay-Razor-Sharp-Long-Wear-Liquid-Eyeliner-2
My two favorite categories of makeup right now have to be eye liners and liquid lipsticks. I just can’t seem to get enough of them! And right now all the fall products are in full swing so you’ll probably see these Razor Sharp Water-Resistant Longwear Liquid Eyeliners ($22 @ urbandecay.com, ulta.com) from URBAN DECAY in the stores right now.

What it is: The ultimate liquid eyeliner that’s so perfectly precise, it’s crazy-sharp. Our intensely pigmented Razor-Sharp Water-Resistant Longwear Liquid Eyeliner lasts all day and comes in everything from lacquered creams to metallic shimmers. And the fine-tipped brush applicator lets you lay down sharp liquid lines – draw them super thin or thick and bold even spot-reapply with ease. Plus, Razor Sharp comes off easily with makeup remover for no-full remover (and no raccoon eyes!).

5 Beauty Tools You Need

5-Must-Have-Beauty-Tools
1.
ARTIS Elite Oval 7 ($65 @ artisbrush.comspacenk.com) – A new addition to the brand, this one is a little bit smaller than my beloved Oval 8 so it's a tad easier to maneuver and I've almost exclusively been using it to applying my liquid foundation these days.

2. BEAUTY BLENDER Sur.face Simple ($30 @ beautyblender.com) – known for their cult-favorite sponges, I’m really hot on this palette to mix my Cover FX Cover Drops with its medium, tap out some mineral powders out of their tubes, or play around with some different creams to create a new shade for my lids or face.

3. MUA MAKEUP ACADEMY Lash Separator ($10.50 @ cvs.com and CVS stores nationwide) – I recently broke my Holy Grail lash separator but glad I found this one in its place. It is curved the same as your eye so easy to quickly run it through lashes.

4. URBAN DECAY Iconic Eyeshadow Brush ($24 @ urbandecay.com, nordstrom.com) – if you get one eye brush in your collection, make it a great one like this. It’s the perfect width and length and can handle a lot of different products.

5. REAL TECHINQUES #301 Flat Contour Brush ($21 @ realtechniques.com) from the Bold Metals Collection – this short, compact, and dense brush is great for applying liquid or cream foundations, blush and bronzers.

And I think I'm ready to add one of these to my Holy Grail list! Yup, it's the MUA Makeup Academy Lash Separator. I had one just like it on my list but this one is less expensive than that one and easier to get hold of. As you read above, I was ready for a new one so help me welcome MUA Makeup Academy Lash Separator to the Holy Grail list of beauty products! What's on your list?

Take Urban Decay Out for an All Nighter

Urban-Decay-All-Nighter-Foundation
I heard about this after having lunch with a fellow blogger. Her skin looked amazing and this was the catalyst! URBAN DECAY All Nighter Liquid Foundation ($40/1oz @ urbandecay.com, ulta.com) is the latest to come out and this is a, wait for it, full coverage one. Yeah! I’m so used to sheer or medium coverage these days that it’s nice to see a serious one come down the pike. They say that this one won’t quit after just a few hours, hence the name. It has a matte finish but don’t worry, it doesn’t look flat like primer paint, and a little goes a long way. One pump is good for the whole face and because it’s full coverage there’s no need to build up multiple layers.

I used my Artis 6 brush with this one when I first tried it and woah, too much, my face looked a little cakey in different areas, so I tried this Sephora brush and then this one from Cover FX and neither worked well, so I tried a damp Beauty Blender and it did the job nicely. I would advise using a moisturizer before applying this foundation so it goes on smoothly.

And I know it is a small detail but the airless pump really is a great delivery system. Not only does it dispense the right amount each time but it keeps it free from contaminants.

Hello Urban Decay Summer Collection!

Have you seen the Summer 2016 makeup collection from URBAN DECAY? I love that the brand really seems to think about each season and what products help bring out the beauty in each of us. Here are my picks!

Urban-Decay-Summer-2016-Makeup-Collection

Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Highlighter ($26 @ urbandecay.com, sephora.com, ulta.com) in Fireball (peach w/pink shift) – Inspired by the brand’s popular eyeshadows in the same shades (also available in Sin and Aura), use this shade to bring forth those features you want to stand out like the inside corner of your eyes, tops of cheeks and the cupid’s bow.

Naked Skin One & Done Hybrid Complexion Perfector SPF 20 ($34/1.3oz @ urbandecay.com, sephora.com) – this one has garnered quite the buzz on the blogs! Not only does this foundation have that blurring technology to make skin look flawless but it also lasts for hours. Available in 6 shades.

24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil ($20 @ urbandecay.com, nordstrom.com) in Heartless (light frosted pink) – Use this kind of like you would the above Afterglow but I have also been using this on top of eye liner for an unexpected look.

24/7 Waterline Eye Pencil ($20 @ urbandecay.com, nordstrom.com) in Walk of Shame (nude) – Out of this whole collection, I think I was most excited about this pencil. The waterline is just oh so important and really completes a look and this one is great to make eyes look bigger.

A Huge Release from Urban Decay!

Urban-Decay-Vice-Lipsticks-on-table
URBAN DECAY
just came out with a huge release. Like physically huge! Like 100 lipsticks! It’s Vice Lipstick and these span the range of finishes – from Mega Matte (designated by MM), Comfort Matte (CM), Cream (C), Metallized (M), Sheer (S), and Sheer Shimmer (SS).

So what is this Vice and why do I need them?

Vice Lipstick comes in a modernized, luxed-up version of our original lipstick case (that looked like a shotgun shell). It’s new, but speaks to our roots.

The luxurious, faceted gunmetal case has a gold base and debossed lettering.

Our custom-designed lipstick features an embossed “UD.”

Shade-matching labels (including the shade name and finish) make it easy to find our current addiction in your bag.

Let's get to the unboxing!

Lining the Line with Urban Decay

Do you line your waterline? I have been known to line them during the day but seem to mainly do it at night so like a face primer, it has become part of my the “going out” routine. I’ve tried out quite a few in the past few years and lot of them just don’t last in that inner rim of the eye. I mean, it’s quite a challenge for a company to create a product that will last since the waterline is not exactly a dry area.

The latest product to come out made especially for this area is URBAN DECAY 24/7 Waterline Eye Pencil ($20 @ urbandecay.com, ulta.com and sephora.com). The five available shades are a demi-matte and safe to wear on the inner rims of your eye. Pretty straight forward, right?
