3 Ways to Turn Up Your Beauty Look

You have an event coming up and you want to find the perfect dress, the highest heels, a good blowout, and oh, what should you do with your makeup for it? While you decide, here are a few products that can add a nice touch to your look that you might not have thought about.

No matter what trait you are looking to show off, I have some suggestions that have totally worked for me below.

Make legs look silky smooth – temps will be warming up soon so skirts will be getting shorter again. Give legs and extra extra with one of these. It makes you look like you are wearing stockings when you’re not. VOTRE VU Silk Stockings in Classic Bronze ($38/3.38oz @ or NARS Monoi Body Glow I ($59/2.5oz @,

6 Life Changing Lip Liners

Do you wear lip liner? I don't know many who do but I have to with some lip formulas so the color doesn't seep into my lip lines. Don’t you hate that?

This post the other day got me thinking about one of the products I always keep at the ready. It's a clear lip liner. I can't believe I haven't covered this fully before as I discovered these quite a few years ago and I can't even remember the brand that introduced me!

What I like about them is that I don't have to match my lip color to it since they have no color. I really only use colored liner, it’s only for when I'm wearing a red as that shade is not as forgiving and you want a perfect outline of the lips when wearing it, like with any of these.

Since I'm using these colorless ones as a barrier against bleeding, instead of lining lips around the very edge of the lip, I'm lining where my lip line ends and skin starts, so just around the lips themselves.

So what are these made of? Housed as a pencil, most are mainly a soft wax with some silicones/mineral oil for slip.

Here are some I recommend that span the price points:

MAYBELLINE Color Sensational Shaping Lip Liner in Clear ($7.99 @,

URBAN DECAY 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in Ozone ($20 @,

MAKE UP FOR EVER Lip Line Perfector ($20 @

SEPHORA COLLECTION Beauty Amplifier Universal Lip Liner ($12 @

ELF COSMETICS Lip Lock Pencil ($3 @

MIRABELLA Perfecting Lip Definer ($20 @

Urban Decay Naked Petite Heat

Well this Naked Petite Heat from URBAN DECAY is a nice treat! Terracotta is the hottest shade in shadows right now and this little guy highlights it beautifully. These are 6 new shades inspired by the big sister palette, Naked Heat, and even though all the colors are used to create a basic eye look, it seems to be fitting for any season.

Like the majority of UD’s shadows, the shades are creamy powders (except the highlight) and blend so well and are some of my favorites. They just know how to create a good quality shadow!

In stores and @ for $29 on Feb 22.

Urban Decay x Kristen Leanne Kaleidoscope Dream Palette

In continuing coverage of the URBAN DECAY x KRISTEN LEANNE Collection, we come to this  Kaleidoscope Dream Eyeshadow Palette. This palette is full of a lot of accent colors and I just love it so far! The pressed powders are all buttery smooth and seem to blend well. I wore Spitfire, a bright pink satin w/purple shift and the holographic green pearl shift shades called Leo, last night and they really kicked my eye look into overdrive.

As with most UD products, they’re not afraid of bright or bold colors and every color in this palette just seems to go so well with the co-creator. I’m just ecstatic about this palette, if you can’t tell, and the price tag of $39 is so reasonable.

I do have to wonder about the “stay gold” written on the mirrors of this palette and the other two. Is it a reference to The Outsiders movie? I’m going to tweet her to find out.

Urban Decay always seems to pay attention to the brushes they include with a palette. This one has a nice blending brush on one side and a crease brush on the other. Nice!

Is this something you will be adding to your collection? Available @

Just Out! UD x KRISTEN LEANNE Collection

Just out from URBAN DECAY is the UD x KRISTEN LEANNE Collection. I previewed the collection on my Instagram Stories and archived them, so please check the pics out and hopefully I can get the items reviewed quickly!

What it is: Kristen Leanne is a cruelty-free beauty influencer known for bright colors, glitter, beautiful tattoos and her full-of-life personality. Her videos range from everyday wearable looks to over-the-top glam tutorials, utilizing her artistry and creativity every step of the way. We tapped into Kristen's amazing makeup talent and discovered what inspires her. Then we bounced color ideas back and forth until we created her perfect makeup collection.

First up, the ud x KRISTEN LEANNE Vice Lipsticks ($17 @ I just love all the holographic colors of the packaging! From the box to the hot pink caps, they really paid attention to detail to make it all Kristen Leanne. And her name on the body of the lipsticks is also a nice touch.

  • Spellbound (deep plum) mega matte
  • Cloud9 (magenta) comfort matte
  • Bun Bun (nude) comfort matte – Bun Bun is the nickname of her bunny, Brixton!

Like all VICE lipsticks, these are smooth as can be with the mega matte lasting longer on lips than the comfort mattes.

From L to R above: Spellbound, Cloud9, Bun Bun.

Pick up the whole collection on January 6, 2018.

Kick It Up with Glitter Liners from Urban Decay

If you’re reading this post, you’re probably a pretty big fan of makeup and have probably worn or tried your hand at wearing glitter. It can be tricky for sure as fall out can be annoying if you don’t apply it with a medium. URBAN DECAY probably has your easiest answer with their Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner ($20 @, It’s a super-fine glitter suspended in a water-base formula that is buildable. There are 13 available here and I’ve swatched 11 of them here for you.

As far as how these performed overall, once they dry down, they set nicely and don’t move, flake or shed.

From L to R (pic taken in sun):

  • Gamma Ray (bright blue and silver glitter)
  • ACDC (bright purple glitter)
  • Distortion (iridescent glitter)
  • Midnight Cowboy (gold glitter)
  • Grind (lt pink iridescent glitter)
  • Punk Rock (iridescent brown glitter)
  • Pyro (iridescent and silver glitter)
  • Spandex (deep blue-black with iridescent glitter)
  • Glam Rock (silver glitter)
  • Stix and Bones (iridescent maroon glitter)
  • Catcall (pink glitter)

The actual formulas are interesting. Some of them have colored water-based solution and some have a clear water-based solution. Colors like Punk Rock, Spandex, Stix and Bones and Catcall have a tinted liquid with the glitter and the others look to be just colored glitter in a water-based liquid. Both types have a use so see the descriptions above.

As you can see from the picture above, the brush is super thin, which is great since I tend to like to apply just a hint of glitter liner when wearing but you can run the liner across your skin over bigger areas and these are not just for lining eyes! I’m not sure where else I’d put liner but if you have a way, please share in the comments!

Heavy Metal with Urban Decay

So here we are at the start of the holiday season onslaught of beauty products. Yeah!! Starting me off is the URBAN DECAY Heavy Metals Metallic Eyeshadow Palette ($55 @, from their Heavy Metals Collection.

What It Is: A shadow mayhem in a crushed metal case. We packed this limited-edition palette with 20 of our most amped-up metallic shadows yet—and every single one is NEW and exclusive.

What sets Heavy Metals apart? We developed a whole new Eyeshadow formula for this palette. We bumped up the foiled effect to create our most metallic shadows ever. In doing so, we carefully crafted the formula on every shade to make sure each one would apply with a soft and creamy texture and create intense, shiny metallic effects. Every shade has a velvety feel for the perfect application, provides insane color payout and blends like a dream.

My Take: It seems like shimmery or glittery shadows have been making a comeback these days. It’s certainly been matte, matte, matte, but it makes sense since you can certainly wear a whole look of all mattes and look normal but it you did that with shimmers or glitters, you better be headed to an 80’s party.

While I usually do a 2:3 ratio when it comes to eye shadows (2 are mattes and 1 is a shimmer or other texture), these will certainly give me many options to experiment with!

As far as quality, I always expect a lot from UD and they usually deliver with the exception of a few shades, like Dive and Starfire that were not quite up to snuff, but the rest were good, even the duo chromes.

As far as the packaging goes, I kind of like it and the mirror in the middle. In the handful of times I’ve used this, I find myself using this mirror instead of my makeup mirror to apply the shadows.

Bright shades on left

left column:
GROUND (metallic black w/iridescent shimmer)
SPANDEX (metallic deep blue w/purple shift and blue micro-sparkle)
METALHEAD (metallic deep purple)
MULLET (metallic deep green)
TWISTED (metallic gold)

right column:
ALUMINUM (metallic warm gray-taupe w/iridescent micro-sparkle)
DIVE (metallic medium blue)
PUNK ROCK (metallic fuchsia)
AMP (metallic bright teal)
GLAMROCK (metallic silver)

Neutral shades on right
left column:
BASS (metallic bronze)
DEMO (metallic bronze-rose)
AFTERPARTY (metallic red)
ROADIE (metallic burgundy)
SCREAM (metallic mauve)

right column:
GLORY (metallic golden bronze)
STARFIRE (metallic bright copper)
ANGELFIRE (metallic pale pink)
MAIDEN (metallic beige)
ACOUSTIC (metallic nude)

One tip they have listed on their site is to spray a makeup brush with their All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray before dipping into a color. Great idea!

Is this something you think you’ll pick up? It’s limited-edition so don’t miss out if you plan on it.

Testing Out the Hottest Mascaras!

There seems to be a bit of buzz on the above mascaras:

  • BUXOM Big Tease Plumping Mascara
  • URBAN DECAY Troublemaker
  • L’OREAL Voluminous Lash Paradise

So I thought I’d do a post about all three comparing how they look, apply and last. First up is L’Oreal.

L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise ($8.99 @ - Our 1st mascara for voluptuous volume & length now with even more black pigments. Soft wavy bristle brush holds maximum formula for a dramatic volumizing charge. 200+ bristles catch every lash for a full fringe effect.

My thoughts – I thought this one was good for a daytime work look. It doesn’t give over-the-top lashes but just enough on each hair. The brush reminded me of the one from Better Than Sex.

Urban Decay Troublemaker ($24 @, – Get super-fat, super-long, sex-proof lashes. This mascara is so good it should be illegal. Urban Decay's Troublemaker Mascara delivers 13.7x the lash volume,* and sexy, fluttery, intensely black lashes. The failsafe formula volumizes and lengthens as it separates, while UD's custom brush grabs onto lashes, curling as it coats. UD loaded up this mascara with insane benefits - for thicker, impossibly long, perfectly fanned-out lashes.

My thoughts – I had super high expectations for this one and for me, it just didn’t deliver. My lashes were not as big as they could have been. I mean, look at the picture! I did try to build it and build it. If you are looking for definition, this one seems to do that well.

Buxom Big Tease Plumping Mascara ($22 @ – (this one) instantly plumps lashes, delivering maximum volume, and noticeably longer lashes for a full and flirty look. A unique blend of 3 high-performing and perfectly calibrated waxes delivers a smooth and creamy application experience, coating every surface, from root to tip, resulting in heavyweight volume, length, & lift. A conical shaped brush releases just the right amount of product and allows you to reach base-to-tip intensity, while individual chisel-tipped fibers divide and conquer every lash for a non-clumpy, lash multiplying effect.

My thoughts – out of all three mascaras, this one delivered the most fierce and, well, plumped up lashes, however, it was also the most difficult one to work with. The conical brush helped but it was like applying 3 coats at one time and I felt a tad clumpy in places even though I went over and over areas. What I did like about this mascara is is that you can applying this mascara over already mascara’d lashes. Like go to work, come home, get ready to go out and use this mascara to create a night time sexy look. This one has a place on my makeup table.
