Light Up With Prescriptives' Winter Collection

Let’s get into or rather AGLOW with winter with the help of PRESCRiPTIVES. Their Aglow Holiday 2008 Color Collection is all about radiant, luminous and vibrant makeup. Each of the products is infused with light-catchingPrescriptives-Winter-Reflections nuances inspired by winter’s frosty effects. There are two Eye Color Quads ($42) – one Warm and one Cool and our pick, the Winter Reflections All-Over Highlighter ($35). It reminds me of one I used to play with as a young teen. Swirl a big fat brush in the three shades of round colors and them swipe, dab or paint your face and decolletage with a glow all your own. All @ prescriptives.com

Being True Broken Down

We’ve been a little behind in our on-going feature on mineral makeup, Making Good with Minerals, so please forgive. BEING TRUE is the next line up and it’s a new one to us. Let’s breakdown their Protective Mineral Foundation Compact SPF 17 ($40 @ truecosmetics.com). It has more ingredients inside than I am used to seeing and quite a few are known to aggravate skin. I’m pretty lucky that I can put basically anything on my skin without worrying about an adverse reaction but I know there are many who cannot. I’ve *d the ones that might make skin mad at you.

0

Being-True Here’s the list of ingredients: Titanium Dioxide (sunscreen), Zinc Oxide (sunscreen), *Mica (transparent mineral mined in sheets. Can sometimes cause irritation for those with sensitive skin or rosasea), Zinc Stearate (sunscreen), *Boron Nitride (A mineral known for its high adhesion quality and a light texture. Can cause an itchy rash with prolonged usage), *Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Dimethicone (unmodified silicones which are considered a good protectant but may cause irritation to sensitive skin due to its occlusion nature), vitamin E, green tea, Idebenone (a form of the powerful anti-aging ingredient CoQ10), Methylparaben (a non-natural preservative), Propylparaben (preservative) and it may contain Iron Oxides (natural coloring), *Bismuth Oxychloride (one of the most known irritants in mineral makeup. In many brands because it gives a satin finish to the skin) and *Carmine (dark red pigment that can be irritating to some).

Overall, I really liked the feel of this pressed powder on my skin but make sure to use a light hand. It costs a little bit more than what we’re used to but for the finish it left behind, it was worth it. Available in 17 shades.

Quick Pick – Bronzing with Lorac

LoracLORAC TANtalizer Baked Bronzer ($28 @ sephora.com) is a two compartment deelio perfect for tucking in the purse. The top is the bronzer and in the basement, so to speak, is the application brush. And the mirror? So handy on the bottom of the compact! This is one of those baked powders as the name states, so the many specs of color are highly pigmented.
Use the big brush in the bottom drawer to brusha-brusha some color anywhere and everywhere.

* Ding-Dong* Avon Calling ...

Speaking of minerals, AVON just steered into the mineral makeup lane and put out a line of powder foundations, blushes and eye shadows. I, of course, gravitated to the powder foundation with Smooth Mineral Makeup ($10/.21oz). I couldn’t find any ingredients to the powder so I’m not sure if it is made with from pure minerals and if it has filler ingredients in it.Avon Anyway, out of 137 reviews on avon.com, 82% of them would recommend it, and so do I. And the price is so right. $10? Nice. The Smooth Mineral Eye Shadows ($8/.05oz) rated a little higher than the foundation and the packaging is the best I’ve seen for mineral shadows. There is a hole in the middle of the pan where you can stick the brush in to grab some color or dip your brush in the hole in the cap. Both @ avon.com

Next Up MAC

I’m really beginning to hate MAC. They don’t seem to really miss the boat, like ever! Not that I wish them ill but come on. It’s funny, some of my favorite eye shadows and lipsticks are ones I wear once in a great while but I look and admire them all the time. Yes, most of them are from MAC.

Mac_2

Here’s the latest collection – Fafi. What is a Fafi? Click here. I don’t when the last time a graffiti artist was celebrated. It happens but just not much. The new Fafi Collection from MAC is all girly and mostly pink! So if pink is your thing, this is right up your alley. Two instant favorites are the Nail Lacquers ($10) in Girls Will Be Girls (pink with coral pearl) and Boom! (rich eggplant with purple pearl). Not only will I be admiring these but I will for sure be wearing them. Another favorite are the Clearly Fafi ($15, $25, $34) cosmetic bags. I have to be able to see everything I’m carrying around, right? If you’re in the mood to get in touch with your inner girly-girl and play, this is a fun collection for just that.

The HAUTE FACE line touts having a shade for everyone – from African-American to Asian to Caucasian.Hautefacepowder This time around I was able to try the Finish Face Powder ($26 @ hauteface.com). Mineral On-the-Go

Arcona_3You won’t catch me toting around those round containers with my mineral makeup inside when I need a foundation touch up during the day. They’re just not convenient. Instead, I pack ARCONA’s Sunsations Seychelles Mineral Makeup ($45/7grams @ arcona.com) in the brush-on tube. The button’s on the bottom and you just pump the powder into the brush and buff. And this one contains a sun protection SPF 25, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide and vitamins C and E. Available in seven shades.
