The Sweet Smell O’ Spring!

Sweet-Smell-O-Spring-2015
RITUALS Foaming Shower Oil
in Organic Rice Milk & Cherry Blossom from the Sakura Spring Collection ($15/6.7oz @ rituals.com) – cherry has always been one of my top favorite scents and this one contains real cherry flower extract. And this cleansing body oil won’t dry the skin out like a regular soap can.

JEAN PAUL GAULTIER Classique Summer Edition EDT ($71/3.3oz @ nordstrom.com) – JPG puts out one of my favorite scents found on a man so I was giddy when this one landed in my mail box. With pungent notes of rose, orange blossom, jasmine and woody lily of the valley, this is sure to become a scent-staple this season.

COAL AND CANARY Super Powers and Fresh Cut Flowers Candle ($25 @ coalandcanary.com) – ok, picture a huge bouquet of fresh cut flowers … got it? That is exactly what this candle smells like!

L’OCCITANE Peony Perfecting Mist ($24/3.3oz @ loccitane.com) – I’m getting my summer face mists together this month for the upcoming heat and this one is for sure being included. Instead of just using a plain water, why not use one that not only hydrates but smells wonderfully of peonies from the real extract inside?

1, 2, 3, Fragrance Change Time!

I know it has to be finally warming up where you are now that Spring is officially here so it’s time to think scents as in, time to update what fragrances you’ll be wearing this season. Here are 3 new favorites.

3-New-Spring-Scents

ELIE SAAB ‘Le Parfum’ Resort Collection EDT ($98/3oz @ department stores nationwide) – if rose isn’t your thing, then perhaps this watery/fruity floral will be. Created by world famous nose, Francis Kurkdjian, he’s included top notes of mandarin and fig, middle notes of jasmin, organge flower and frangipani flower and a base of cedar and luminous amber.

AERIN Rose de Grasse Parfum Spray ($185/1.7oz @ aerin.com and neimanmarcus.com) – nothing says springtime more than roses and this one blends 3 precious rose ingredients in the bottle. This is also the first launch in the Premier Collection, which will be a celebration of rare, expensive and artisanal perfumes by the brand.

Eau de Gaga 001 Eau de Parfum ($34/1.7oz @ mass retailers) I’ve kinda shied away from the whole celebrity fragrance trend even though I did like one that I sniffed a few years ago. But I swear, if I did a blind sniff of this one from Ms. Ga, I would swear it was put out by Juliette Has A Gun or Agent Provocateur … seriously! This latest one is unisex and described as a woody-floral opening with notes of sparkling lime, white violet and a base of leather.

Clean Gets a Tad Heavy with their Latest Scent

I kinda figured that once I smelled one or two CLEAN fragrances I’ve smelled them all but their new Air Eau de Parfum ($38/1oz, $69/2.14oz @ cleanperfume.com) is changing my mind.

It’s described at a woody floral aldehydic* so it’s a heavier than their tranditional scents, yet clean with floral notes. And what a fitting scent for the season transition we are going into with spring right around the corner!

  • Top notes: Mountain Air Accord, Bergamot Blossoms, Lush Green Accord
  • Middle notes: Sparkling Freesia, Powdered Aldehydes, Dewy Peony
  • Base notes: Enveloping Musk, Cashmere Woods, White Amber

  Clean-Air-eau-de-parfum

*aldehydic means luminous sparkling top notes that give the fragrance it’s body or opening fizz. Some of the Chanel frags are known for this as is one from JHAG.

4 Fab Fall Fragrances

Four-Fab-Fall-Fragrances
ESTEE LAUDER Modern Muse Chic
 - $60/1oz, $80/1.7oz, $100/3.4oz @ esteelauder.com and neimanmarcus.com. Slightly stronger than the original Modern Muse, this eau de parfum floral woody musk has true staying power! Top notes include plum and Artemisia, middle, jasmine sambac, tuberose and lily, and base notes of cashmere wood, oud, and vanilla, among others.

ELIE SAAB Le Parfum L’Edition Or - $120/3oz @ selfridges.com. This one falls under the oriental floral and I’ve fallen under its spell! One of my favorite scents of the season with the orange blossom, jasmine absolute and cedarwood-honey rose accords. And I guess it’s so limited edition that I could only find it selling at the above location.

GIORGIO ARMANI 'Si' Eau de Parfum - $70/1oz, $90/1.7oz, $115/3.4oz @ giorgioarmanibeauty.com and  bloomingdales.com. This is one of those unique chypre scents and includes fruity notes of Sicilian bergamot, mandarin oil and Egyptian jasmine absolute. Say yes to this!

AERIN Waterlily Sun Eau de Parfum Spray - $110/1.7oz @ aerin.com. Sicilian Bergamot and dewy greens layered onto Waterlily, Jasmine Sambac on a base of musk. If you don’t like to smell like anyone else, you might want to give this one a whiff.

Get Acquainted With… Juliette Has a Gun

JULIETTE HAS A GUN. Probably the most unique name for a scent line ever created! Founded in 2006 by the great grandson of Nina Ricci, Romano Ricci, he apprenticed in the world of perfumery for 4 years eventually working with famed nose Francis Kurkdjian. The story behind the name is that of the innocent Juliet of Shakespeare being transposed to the 21st century … with a gun, which can take on quite a few different metaphors. In 2011, he won a prestigious “Special Prize of the Board” award from the FiFi Awards.

While I’ve only tried a few of their scents, the line is 11 strong: Lady Vengeance, Miss Charming, Not A Perfume, Vengeance Extrême, Romantina, Citizen Queen, Calamity J, Midnight Oud, Mad Madame, Oil Fiction, and Anyway.

And the ones I’ve experienced? Well, they’re not ones for the faint at heart but more for those that like their scent to make a statement, which I usually do. And now that the seasons are changing, it’s time to whip them out again!

Juliette-Has-a-Gun-Vengeance-Extreme-fragrance

So in my continuing curiosity about the others, I was able to get my hands 2 samples of other scents, Anyway and Not A Perfume.

Anyway is described as his “back to basics” scent with top notes of neroli and lime, middle notes of jasmine and base notes of musk and wood. Overall, if you blindfolded me and stuck this scent under my nose, there’s no way I would guess it was from JHAG. It’s really light and pretty mainstream and I can’t say I really smell the jasmine when it starts to dry down, and I’m a fan of jasmine. I’d give this a B-.

Moving over to Not a Perfume, which came out back in 2010, is aptly named as it is not really considered a perfume because it’s one single ingredient called Cetalox. From what I read about this note is that it’s typically used as a base note and first came to light in Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana. While this scent is velvety, musk-y, amber-y, and thick like I like, overall it’s not quite grabbing me and holding on so I’m just  trying to spend more time with it.

So there you have it! My experience with JHAG. If you like your scents strong like your martinis, which is why I like the brand, you may want to give their Vengeance Extreme, Romantina or Lady Vengeance a whirl.

The scents can be found @ juliettehasagun.com and luckyscent.com.

What is your experience with Juliette Has a Gun?

What I’m Loving Right … Now!

What-I'm-Loving-Right-...-Now
From L to R clockwise:

Nail Love - CUCCIO Colour Nail Lacquer in Java Va Voom and Cream & Sugar from the Café Cuccio Winter Colour Collection - $8.50 @ hbbeautybar.com - a really great quality nude is seasonless and this Java Va Voom one is the perfect shade of coffee with 2 creams in it and when you need a little extra zhoosh on tips or toes, Cream & Sugar is a darker nude with tiny flecks of multi-colored sparkle.

Cheek Love - BENEFIT Majorette - $28 @ benefitcosmetics.com and macys.com – and blush that gives you that sexy flush is never out(it) of season and this pinky-peach, cream-to-powder one will give you an instant boost. Wear it alone of under other blushes. And I love the slight tangerine scent to it!

Primer Love - NYX 'Honey Dew Me Up' Primer - $17 @ ulta.com – it’s certainly no secret that I love honey and seek products out that contain it, this one that uses it in a primer surprised me. First it’s in the gel form and it has tiny gold flecks that help with overall radiance. Ok I guess! What really impressed me is the way it felt while applying it and after applying it. Unlike most face primers, this one didn’t instantly disappear into my skin and actually did make it feel a tad dewy until it set. My skin really felt soft, smoothed out and “prepped” for the next step, which is an overall first. Big recommendation.

Face Love - PACIFICA ‘Perfect Lotus’ Universal Powder - $16 @ pacificabeauty.com and beauty.com – this buildable pressed mineral powder really brightened up my complexion and I was really surprised how universal the Light shade was! It blended in nicely and didn’t sit on top of any lines in my face.

Fragrance Love - CARVEN L’eau de Toilette - $79/1.7, $104/3.3oz only @ saks.com – I’ve become quite the eau de parfum snob in that I feel I’m sort of wasting my time by choosing an eau de toilette as that scent is not as concentrated as a parfum version. Well this one may change my mind.
Aside from the lovely fresh, grassy, and totally feminine fragrance this one imparts, if I didn’t know any better, I’d say it’s the more concentrated version as it certainly wears like one! This release is considered the “younger sister” of the Le Parfum that came out in 2013 as they share the same bottle design and some of the same composition like sweet pea, freesia, white hyacinth and white woods, among others, this one is considered the “sweeter,” of the two.

Zit Love - COVER FX Blemish Treatment Concealer - $38/2.5g @ coverfx.com – I’m always so hesitant to put any makeup on a blemish for fear of making it worse but thanks to CFX, they want to take that fear away. The formula contains 10% Salicylic Acid to treat and Babchi Seed Extract to increase cell renewal. Check out the other new products in the blemish treatment collection.

More Nail Love - MILANI Color Statement Nail Lacquer in Mauving Forward $3.99 @   milanicosmetics.com – I’m finding myself not quite ready to jump into the fall just yet but am inching my way towards it with this shade of purply-mauve.

Is Narciso Rodriguez's New Fragrance a Must-Have?

It’s been so hot out the past week in Los Angeles that the last thing I’ve wanted to do was spritz on a heady fragrance so I had to wait on featuring the latest from NARCISO RODRIGUEZ. Well it’s now cooled down a tad and since we’re making the transition out of light and airy fragrances to ones more suited for fall, it’s time to talk about 'Narciso' Eau de Parfum ($95/1.6oz, $112/3oz only @ bloomingdales.com).

I know I’ve shown you my fragrance, I guess you would call it a collection at this point, in previous posts but in case you forgot … voila!

Cybele's-perfumes

I think I end up adding a bottle to my perfume shelf only every few months as I have a pretty discerning nose that likes unique and mostly bold. I’ll give each one I come across a nice trial but if it’s not love, it goes to a friend that can give it some.

So how did this one fare? It’s funny because the first few times I wore it, I was really liking it and then about the 4th time, I spritzed some on, went out my biz and about 30 minutes later was not in the mood for it. That’s the only way I can describe it!

Narciso-Rodriguez-'Narciso'-Eau-de-Parfum

This is Mr. Rodriguez’s forth scent creation in the marketplace and this one seems to be a beautiful follow to the others, that have done quite well, I might add.

This one is described as a woody musk, with top notes of gardenia and white rose, middle of musk all on a base of vetiver, white cedar extract and cedar. Yes, it’s heavy on the base notes and my nose had a hard time detecting the top notes.

His goal with this fragrance was to create one that was intoxicating and sensual and I think he succeeded and I might goes as far to say that it seems unisex. So does this one go on my perfume shelf? You betcha!

This also comes in a Scented Body Lotion ($54/6.7oz) and a Musc Oil Perfume ($155/1.6oz).

Give this one a whiff next time you’re in Bloomingdales as it’s one to at least experience.

Dream a Little Dream with Marc Jacobs' Daisy Dream

The most intimidating question I could ever be asked is, “where do you want to be in 5 years?” Talk about putting me on the spot! At least when it comes to dreams, I don’t feel as much pressure, and that’s what

MARC JACOBS Daisy Dream Eau de Toilette Spray is all about. Dreams can be creative and inspiring, freeing and vulnerable, and most of all, yours!

And smelling this new Daisy Dream puts some fun into it and though I never thought of creating a dream capsule before, through the Marc Jacobs website, you can create your own here (insert link to create dream capsule). What’s fun is that after you submit it and your email address, the site will email you one year later to see if any of it came true! You can also enter the Marc Jacobs Dream Daisy sweepstakes for the chance to win weekly prizes including Marc Jacobs fragrances, accessories, and the grand prize: a Marc Jacobs experience you thought you could only dream of. I can’t even imagine what that prize will be!

Below is my dream capsule. So how does it relate to my dreams? Travel! I would like to visit some new places and ones I’ve explored before like Indonesia, Europe, and of course NYC, which has been on my list for the past year!

Marc-Jacobs-Dream-Capsule-for-Daisy-Dream-fragrance

And coming from the music world, I love that he put together a playlist to capture the spirit of his Daisy Dream fragrance in music. Find it here.

This scent is light, airy, floral, and fruity with top notes of blackberry, fresh grapefruit, and pear, middle notes of jasmine, lychee, and blue wisteria all on a bed of white woods, musk, and coconut water. Since we’re going into a season transition, this is a nice option for just that. I’m not quite ready to let go of summer, but I’m slowing getting used to the idea of fall.

Marc-Jacobs-Daisy-Dream
You can pick this new fragrance up for $52/1oz, $76/1.7oz, $94/3.4oz @ marcjacobsfragrance.com or any Marc Jacobs store. To find one, click here or get this @ sephora.com or nordstrom.com.

Penhaligon's Tralala Gets Playful

I wonder what the percentage of importance the fragrance industry considers the overall packaging, which includes the actual bottle, when it comes to putting out a new scent? The latest from PENHALIGON’S is Tralala EDP ($200/3.4oz @ penhaligons.com and smallflower.com) is a clear demonstration of its importance and wow, I’m just stunned at the story this tells as you see the box and upon opening it. The doll inside the doll box brings back memories of childhood and the face on the doll reminds me of the clothespin dolls I used to make in art class as a child.
