Review+Swatch - NARS Larger Than Life Lip Gloss

Nars-Larger-Than-Life-Lip-GlossesI am really late in getting to these NARS Larger Than Life Lip Glosses but it’s kind of working out since I got a new camera and can now get some great real life shots of them.

What it is: Outrageously lustrous color meets serious shine in this NARS gloss. Its stay-in-place dramatic shade glides on smoothly and evenly for lips that are more luminous and voluminous than ever before. Long-lasting, high-shine hues are infused with ingredients that nourish and fight free radicals while natural lip enhancers pump up with volume. A new, shorter bristle brush delivers the most precise application possible. However you want to express yourself, Larger Than Life Lip Gloss says it boldly, brilliantly, and brazenly.

A NARS Orgasm Dupe

Nars-and-NYC-Color-swatches NARS' Orgasm Blush has topped many-a Top 10 lists since it came out and I think I found a dupe for it. NYC COLOR Cheek Glow Powder Blush in Hello Lover! Pink ($2.99 @ drugstores nationwide) is the closest blush I’ve ever seen to it. I’d say that in person it looks a smidge pinkier but on the skin, I can’t tell the difference. Can you tell which one is which in the photo?

Fall 2011 Product Standouts - Part 1

OMG, it is already September 21st and I’m not even half way through featuring all the new fall beauty products so I’m going to stretch this Fall Beauty Pick feature into October. After all, fall is one of my favorite seasons – the colors, the textures and of course the temperatures! Here are some that are singing my tune right now.

Falll-2011-Beauty-Pick-logo
Fall-2011-Product-Picks-first-feature Clockwise left to right:

MAKE UP FOR EVER Smoky Lash in #6 Plum ($22 @ sephora.com) – this one claims to curl and lo and behold, I think it did! A great complement when wearing their Crayon Kohl Pencil in new shade 10k, a deep eggplant sheen.

NYC COLOR In A New York Color Minute Quick Dry Nail Polish in Scenestealer Grey ($1.99 @ drugstores nationwide) – metallic grey is a hot color for fall and it goes with so many different looks.

NAPOLEON PERDIS NP SET False Eye Lashes in Manchester ($10 @ Target or target.com) – if you just want a little emphasis on your eyes, this style will do it subtly. If a strip is too hard for you to maneuver, there’s also Copenhagen, individual lashes.

PACIFICA Island Vanilla Perfume ($22/1oz, $12/roll-on @ pacificaperfume.com) – Tahitian vanilla, vanilla absolute, honey-jasmine and a touch of fruit and tea make up this totally wearable made from pure grain alcohol scent.

POP BEAUTY Face Magnet Primer ($26/1.18oz @ dermstore.com) – this makeup primer not only keeps your makeup on but it has UV protection, caffeine and anti-aging ingredients. Gotta love double triple duty products.

NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner in Rue de Rivoli ($25 @ narscosmetics.com) – this metallic forest green will complement any eye color. Very smooth application and it has a sharpener built in the backend.

CLINIQUE Lipgloss/Lipstick Duo in Black Honey ($21 @ sephora.com) – check out what all the hubbub is about with their cult favorite Black Honey shade. It’s their best seller for a reason and now they have it in a combo Lip Gloss and Lipstick.

Fall Collection Standouts from NARS

What It Is: The Fall 2011 collection is resolutely avant-garde. Daring shots of color are tempered with softer, subtler tones. Eyes range from bright true blue to silvery taupe, dazzling peach and matte dove gray. Lips run the gamut from statement-making matte red to sophisticated plum and sparkling champagne pink. A stormy gray nail color adds a mysterious finishing touch. The effect is confident, edgy and intense.

NARS Summer 2011 Collection

What it is: The Summer 2011 Collection is a range of warm, sophisticated, shimmering shades, punctuated with shots of vivid, nature-defying color. Eyes are washed in icy sea foam, silver-green and frozen turquoise. Lips are infused with mandarin orange gloss and hot pink matte color. The look is finished with nails in bold sunflower yellow or matte opaque white for a modern, edgy effect that’s strictly NARS.

This Week In Lips - NARS' New Matte Lipsticks

Nars-Pure-Matte-Lipsticks Lots o’ buzz about NARS’s new Pure Matte Lipstick ($25 only @ saks.com) and I’m right there buzzing along with them. And they are being used all over the runways at Fashion Week this week like in the Phillip Lim and Vince shows. not to mention on stars at this year's Emmys. What I like about matte lips is that just about anyone can pull them off; just make sure your lips are not chapped or the color won’t look too good. Each of the six colors is madly pigmented and contains vitamin E, mango butter and açaí oil. Color picks: Bangkok (soft rose) and Tashkent (nude beige) – this one reminds of the perfect nude you see models on runways wearing all the time! Will you be picking up any of these?

NARS Welcomes Summer with Multiples

NARS-Multiple-Tint Whoo-wee do these NARS Multiple Tints ($38 @ narscosmetics.com) scream sum-sum-summertime! I mean look at the colors, bright pink, purplish and orange. They are pretty sheer so no worries on overdoing it at first swiped  and the color is totally buildable and looks really natural, like a flush. Can also be used on lips!

From L to R: Beverly Hills (bright red), Turks and Caicos (orange), Cadaques (fuchsia).

Scared of Bronzer? Check These Before Your Write them Off.

I think bronzers still scare the average girl off and I don’t blame them. I mean, where are you supposed to put this powder on your face without looking all kinds of muddy?! As I’ve mentioned before on the site, I am quite partial to what I call the three method to apply it, as described here. You really can’t go wrong with it! And don’t forget, the effect with any bronzer is subtle so if you really notice it, you probably have too much on. These three seem to be pretty consistent with no orangy after-effect. Try any with confidence!

Givenchy-Chanel-Nars

GIVENCHY Fleur de Frangipanier – Unique Compact Powder ($45 @ sephora.com) – from the Summer 2010 Collection, this one adds a dash of blush color to its bronzer (Island Sun is pinkier out of the two).

CHANEL Soleil Tan de Chanel – Moisturizing Bronzing Powder ($50 @ chanel.com) –  from the Summer 2010 Makeup Collection, this oil-free powder comes with a brush that is actually quite usable! Available in 6 shades.

NARS Bronzing Powder ($32 @ narscosmetics.com) – I don’t know the last time I read as much as I did about this one and how perfectly bronze their bronzer was! I just had to run out and get it. I picked up Laguna and I must agree with the raves! What makes this one for me is the slight golden shimmer it lended. Available in 3 shades.

Nars Spring 2010 Collection Picks

The colors in the NARS Spring 2010 Collection were inspired by Ms. Catherine Deneuve’s role as Lucille in La Chamade. How does it translate? Nars wants you to embrace color and get noticed with accented  pops here and there. So do it with some of these from our picks in the collection.

Duo Cream Eyeshadow in Camargue ($32) – think of the sexy smoky eye you can create with the golden moss color all over the lid and then the brown sienna to accent.

Single Eyeshadow in D. Gorgeous ($23) – described as a dusty lilac, this is a nice one for work. I think the D stands for Damn, nice!

Nail Polish in Purple Rain ($16) – this polish has everything hot about it – bright, metallic and just so now. I wonder if the Purple One would ever don this?

Sheer Lipstick in Cruising ($24) – the YLBB lippie.

Glitter Pencil in Bains Douche ($24) – this is a great one for a pop of blue sky color when you’re in a hurry. All @ narscosmetics.com.
