Fall 2011 Product Standouts - Part 1

OMG, it is already September 21st and I’m not even half way through featuring all the new fall beauty products so I’m going to stretch this Fall Beauty Pick feature into October. After all, fall is one of my favorite seasons – the colors, the textures and of course the temperatures! Here are some that are singing my tune right now.

Falll-2011-Beauty-Pick-logo
Fall-2011-Product-Picks-first-feature Clockwise left to right:

MAKE UP FOR EVER Smoky Lash in #6 Plum ($22 @ sephora.com) – this one claims to curl and lo and behold, I think it did! A great complement when wearing their Crayon Kohl Pencil in new shade 10k, a deep eggplant sheen.

NYC COLOR In A New York Color Minute Quick Dry Nail Polish in Scenestealer Grey ($1.99 @ drugstores nationwide) – metallic grey is a hot color for fall and it goes with so many different looks.

NAPOLEON PERDIS NP SET False Eye Lashes in Manchester ($10 @ Target or target.com) – if you just want a little emphasis on your eyes, this style will do it subtly. If a strip is too hard for you to maneuver, there’s also Copenhagen, individual lashes.

PACIFICA Island Vanilla Perfume ($22/1oz, $12/roll-on @ pacificaperfume.com) – Tahitian vanilla, vanilla absolute, honey-jasmine and a touch of fruit and tea make up this totally wearable made from pure grain alcohol scent.

POP BEAUTY Face Magnet Primer ($26/1.18oz @ dermstore.com) – this makeup primer not only keeps your makeup on but it has UV protection, caffeine and anti-aging ingredients. Gotta love double triple duty products.

NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner in Rue de Rivoli ($25 @ narscosmetics.com) – this metallic forest green will complement any eye color. Very smooth application and it has a sharpener built in the backend.

CLINIQUE Lipgloss/Lipstick Duo in Black Honey ($21 @ sephora.com) – check out what all the hubbub is about with their cult favorite Black Honey shade. It’s their best seller for a reason and now they have it in a combo Lip Gloss and Lipstick.

Napoleon Perdis Gives Women What They Want

Leave it to one of the Kings of Red Carpet Makeup, NAPOLEON PERDIS, to come out with a totally red collection. His latest Better Off Red Collection lays out the best super duper red lippies for any occasion and in different finishes.

Here are the line-up of reds:

Napoleon-Perdis-Better-Off-Red-Collection
Double Agent Rouge Lip Palette ($22) – this compact contains a lipstick and a powder. Use the brush to apply the matte color and then set it with the powder.

Front Row Red Lip Gloss ($25) – this has been my go-to for the past week or so when appropriate and is for serious red-wearers. He says it will last 10 hours but I got more like 4 out of it and it seems to start fading from the waterline out, which is convenient. And the finish is super matte so why do they call it a gloss?

Lady in Red Lip Gloss ($25) – this is more of a mauvey red and probably more wearable for more people. And the finish is more of a gloss or a creamy lipstick.

Undercover Red Lip Gloss ($25) – this self-adjusting gloss goes on clear and warms up to a red all your own but I’d say it self-adjusted to more of a medium pink.

Devine Goddess Lipstick ($22) – three different reds that will highlight different skin tones. They are not new but for sure worth noting if you are looking for a staple red for your collection.

Overall there truly is a red for every skin tone in this collection. And I’m loving the vastly different finishes of each product. Check out the below video and more @ napoleonperdis.com

And in hot off the presses news, he will be making his QVC debut this Thursday, August 25th @ 10pm PDT/Friday, August 26 @ 1am EDT.

New from Napoleon Perdis!

From the man that I credit with pretty much creating the first makeup primer on the market, NAPOLEON PERDIS, comes his new ROCK ON! Collection. And this one has a new kind of primer, a powder form!

This is Mr. Perdis’s venture into the mineral makeup world and I actually kind of surprised it took this long for him. Here are the deets:

Mattifying Mineral Primer ($29) – this one can be used before and after foundation. A yellow powder? Don’t worry, it’s translucent but do you remember Urban Decay’s Nirvana Universal Loose Powder? It was yellow. Or I could be really dating myself by mentioning the other yellow powder I remember - T. LeClerc’s Banana Loose Powder? Also yellow and had quite a cult following.

Anyway, I found using a medium sized flat top brush like this one most effective when applying it before(it) the foundation and a bigger domed brush when applying it as a finishing powder.

And one tip about the container – he created it so that the sifter mechanism will measure out (click-click) just enough primer for one application. Genius!

Napoleon-Perdis-Advanced-Mineral-Foundation,-Mattifying-Powder Advanced Mineral Makeup SPF 15 ($59) – available in 6 shades, this one contains those light diffusers (pretty much a must-have inside any foundation these days), and also antioxidant ingredients and the aforementioned SPF. It gives medium matte coverage and a little goes a long way. I tried this one with a makeup brush and a sponge and found the sponge worked best. Let’s hear it for another winning liquid mineral foundation on the scene.

He was smart about these first two products by including antioxidants and sodium hyaluronate, which is a key anti-aging ingredient, in both of these. Love a multi-tasker! Both @ napoleonperdis.com

What Do You Like in Your Bronzer?

Some people have to have a very matte, matte, bronzer. Others like a touch of shimmer. What about you? Here are three that will fill each mood.

Bronzers-Cargo-Napoleon-Perdis-and-Orlane ORLANE Bronzing Pressed Powder in Soleil Cuivre ($40 @ bloomingdales.com) – this is your basic super matte pressed face powder. It just happens to have quite a following of devoted users.

NAPOLEON PERDIS Bronze Patrol ($50 @ napoleonperdis.com) – this baked powder has a touch of pretty gold flecks in it as well as vitamins A and C.

CARGO BeachBlush in Echo Beach ($28 @ beauty.com) – love the combo of a blush and bronzer and this one give you four options in its tin!

Napoleon Perdis Jumps Into Bath and Body

From NAPOLEON PERDISNP Set line comes a Bath & Body collection. Yup, he’s not just makeup anymore! From bath salts to body scrubs to lotion to a body mist, each contains nourishing essential oils and is free of parabens, SLS’ and dyes. And each product comes in three scent collections: Tahitian Vanilla, Moroccan Citrus and Jaipur Jasmine. He was inspired by exotic locals his job has brought him too over the years. Lucky duck!

I’m especially liking the Jaipur Jasmine Body Polish. Mmm jasmine! It uses walnut shell powder to do the exfoliating so don’t use it on your face. And if I was asked to describe the actual polish, it’s like if like a light or diet exfoliator in that the actually scrubbing particles are not super concentrated in the pearly beige concoction.

Napoleon-Perdis-NP-Set-Body-Collection
And the prices are right on – Bath Salts ($14.99/15.9oz), Body Lotion ($14.99/16.9oz), Body Scrub ($13.99/6.76oz), Body Mist ($11.99/8.5oz), Body Wash ($14.99/16.9oz) all @ target.com.

Make Up Your Look in the Bronze Family

Do you ever think about coordinating your eye shadow and lipstick/lip gloss? Now I don’t mean matching them exactly but just making sure they are in the same color family. I’ve put three together that I think really work. What do you think?

  Napoleon-Perdis-Benefit-Smashbox

1. Do you have a go to shade of eye shadow that just seems to get a lot of complements? For me, it’s this China Doll Eyeliner in the color Copper from the NAPOLEON PERDIS line. I’d describe it as a shimmery brick red and I just get more comments on it more than any other eye shadow (how I like to wear it as opposed to a liner) before. $25 @ napoleonperdis.com.

2. Another all-time favorite is BENEFIT COSMETICS Dallas. This rosy bronze is just the right amount of blush and bronzer in one container. $28 @ benefitcosmetics.com.

3. I tried a few different lipsticks and lip glosses with the above two products but  the SMASHBOX Lip Enhancing Gloss in Reveal seemed to work best next to matte cheeks to really ties the whole look in together. $19 @ smashbox.com.

Napoleon Perdis Mesmer-Eyes Mascara

Napoleon-Perdis-Mesmer-Eyes-Mascara Meeting Mr. NAPOLEON PERDIS a few weeks ago will go down as a highlight of 2010. I’ve been aware and using his line since it was introduced to the States a few years ago and glad to see it getting mass appeal like being carried in Target. One that’s really surprising me is the Mesmer-Eyes Mascara ($25 @ napoleonperdis.com). Yes, I love black mascara but this is the first time that I’ve used one that made my lashes look like black vinyl on my lashes, really! And it uses a double-sided flat comb at the end of the wand instead of the traditional spooly. I think one side works better than the other. If you’re not good at wielding the wand, you might want to skip this one as it can get a little clumpy.

Who will like this one? Anyone who likes length and thickness and of course the cool vinyl-looking effect! I don’t think this is a daytime-wear mascara. Available in Black Original and Black Waterproof.
