Is this the Best Drugstore Liquid Lipstick?

Maybelline-SuperStay-Matte-Ink-main
I’m in lippie heaven right now. Seriously! There have been a bunch of new releases to hit my desk in the past week plus some I bought that just came out so if you love lipsticks as much as I do, be sure to check back.

First up, MAYBELLINE SuperStay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick ($9.49 @ maybelline.com, walgreens.com, target.com) What It Is: SuperStay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick gives you a flawless matte finish in a range of super saturated shades.

My take: Wow, just wow. I think I may have found my favorite drugstore liquid lipstick! The colors are simply fab (favorites right now have to be the dark pink of Lover and the bright orange/red of Heroine) and I really like the vanilla-cupcake-scented formula. Here’s the breakdown - These dry down matte but not dessert dry. They have some tact to them but the color is totally non-transferable. I just got the new NARS Powermatte Lip Pigments the other day and immediately tried one and that one has a slight tact to them but these seem to have more, which I kind of like. The super dessert dry ones have become like nails down a chalkboard for me and I just can’t wear them anymore.

Is this the Strobing Product of the Summer?

Maybelline-Master-Strobing-Liquid-Illuminating-Highlighter-main

Highlighters are the hottest products in makeup these days, which is funny since they've been around forever. Everyone just wants that glow so I can see why but you've seen one highlighter, you've seen them all, right? That's what I thought. Enter MAYBELLINE FaceStudio Master Strobing Liquid Illuminating Highlighter ($9.99 @ ulta.com). It’s available in three shades: Light/Iridescent, Medium/Gold, Dark/Nude Glow, and these really caught me off guard.

I’m used to using a powder highlighter these days so it took me a beat to get used to using these that are creams. But wow, so worth it! I’ve pushed the powders aside and these three have taken center stage! I love the different options when it comes to the colors and These. Stay. Put! I don’t think they are waterproof but they are close enough.

A dab and blend on the tops of my cheeks, a dab and blend in my cupids bow, really anywhere and wow, do these perk up my parts, and probably the only ones you need to get you through summer ... seriously.

Brow Precise Fiber Volumizing Mascara ($9.99 @ maybelline.com, ulta.com, walgreens.com) - this one looks and sorta acts like a mascara for your brows. It’s a tinted gel that adds a little dimension and color to the brow area to help fill in areas and make them look fuller. And the small tapered shape of the wand is really easy to use. Available in 5 shades.

Is This Your Answer to a Purse-Friendly Powder Foundation?

Maybelline-Super-Stay-Better-Skin-Skin-Transforming-Powder

Maybelline-Super-Stay-Better-Skin-Skin-Transforming-Powder-top

However did I miss this one when it came out late last year? I guess with a market place based on what’s new and now, it got lost in the shuffle, but wow, I’m sure glad I tried it. So what is it? It’s MAYBELLINE Super Stay Better Skin Skin-Transforming Powder ($10.99/9g @ ulta.com, target.com) and it’s rocking my world right now.

What it is - a skin-transforming powder that delivers lasting coverage. It’s oil-free and contains salicylic acid, which helps to achieve better looking skin in just three weeks. Eliminates shine and unevenness, while delivering a natural matter finish.

My take - just wow. The finish on this one is medium coverage and what’s unique about this one is that is contains salicylic acid, which is a well-known anti-aging ingredient, and helps skin actually look better over time (they claim about 3 weeks). When was the last powder foundation able to do that?

Maybelline-Super-Stay-Better-Skin-Skin-Transforming-Powder-label

Though I’ve only been using it daily for the past two weeks so while it makes my skin look gorgeous and not really “done,” I have the aforementioned to look forward to.

I would put this up against some of my favorite luxury powder foundations like this pricier one that give me flawless coverage and you just can’t beat the price!

5 Favorite Makeup Products for Highlighting

Strobing? Highlighting? Bronzing? No matter which you choose to do, they’re all hot now. Do you have a favorite? I find that highlighting/strobing 2 features max in any look is more than enough. I mean, you want to look natural, just better, and not completely fake.

Here are 5 that I’ve been using the past few weeks. Do you see a favorite?

Top-5-Highlighting-and-Contouring-Makeup-Products

1. LUNE+ASTER Moonrise Glow & Contour Bronzing Palette - $46 @ bluemercury.com – this is a really serious highlighting duo. One side is the glowing bronzer and the other is the candlelight-effect highlighter. I’m really only into matte bronzers so I’ve been using both along tops of my cheek bones.

2. CHELLA Highlighter Pencil in Ivory Lace $18 @ chella.com, dermstore.com – this highlighter has quite a cult following and I see why! It works under the eyebrow, along the cupids bow, inner corners of the eyes and more. No shimmer or glow here, which is nice when I’m not in the mood for it. There’s just something about this super light matte pink shade they call Ivory Lace that works with almost every skin tone.

3. MAYBELLINE NEW YORK Face Studio Master Strobing Stick in Medium Nude Glow - $7.99 @ target.com – this has become my go-to for highlighting my cheekbones and inner corner of my eyes. This one seems to blend perfectly into my skin tone not really adding any color, just glow!

4. MAYBELLINE NEW YORK Face Studio Master Contour V-Shape Duo Stick in Medium - $7.99 @ target.com – why did it take so long for someone to come up with a duo-colored stick like this? Use the light side for highlighting/strobing and the darker side to define cheeks, contour the nose, and jawline.

5. PIXI BY PETRA Beauty Blush Duo + Kabuki in Peach Honey - $18 @ pixibeauty.comtarget.com – I’m not a fan of any shimmer or any other effects in my blush (I’m a matte girl on that front too) so I’ve been using this like the Lune+Aster one, upper cheeks and under the brow bone.

Is This Your Holy Grail Liner?

Maybelline-Master-Precise-Curvy-Liquid-Liner-openMaybelline-Master-Precise-Curvy-Liquid-Liner-up-close

This MAYBELLINE Master Precise Curvy Liquid Liner in Black ($7.99 @ ulta.com, drugstore.com) seems to be residing between a liquid liner and a pencil liner. It’s part of their fall collection and I don’t think this color could be any blacker!

This is probably the closest to an overall Sharpie-look of an eye liner I’ve ever come across – the liner tip and pen-like case and even the color on the skin. And what I like about this most is that I can choose from a thin or thick line across the lid.

And this didn’t bleed at all, which is a very important trait to me, and lasted an average of 8 hours before starting to wear off.

Some may find this one a tad difficult to wield as the tip is rounded instead of pointed, which I mentioned above. This works fine for me but I found that I had to draw a medium to thick line by default because of the shape, so if you’re a novice, you may not want to start with this one.

5 Drugstore Favorites

5-Drugstore-Favorites
1.
MUA MAKEUP ACADEMY Double Ended Foundation & Concealer Brush ($14 @ cvs.com) – Every once in a while a brush comes along that just becomes a staple in your collection, and that’s this one. Both sides of this brush can be used to apply both creams and liquids and the size of each head, especially the foundation size, is just perfect! This brand is on a roll for me lately.

2. CERAVE Moisturizing Cream with Pump ($17.99/16oz @ walgreens.com) – you ever just want a super basic cream with no strong perfume or scent? Yup, this one is it and it contains ceramides and hyaluronic acid. And how convenient is this pump? Love it.

3. PANTENE Air Spray Alcohol Free Hairspray ($5.49/7oz @ walgreens.com) – this one is starting to rival this one as one of my favorites. I mean, it is for the summer, for sure though. It acts sort of the same in that it gives great hold yet it’s brushable. And this one is alcohol-free.

4. COVERGIRL Lash Blast Plumpify Mascara ($11.99 @ target.com) – I’m tough on mascara and pass on probably 80% of the ones I try. This one, however, gets some high marks from me as it really does plump-ify each lash.

5. MAYBELLINE Super Stay 24 Lip Color in Very Cranberry ($10.49 @ maybelline.com, target.com) – remember in this post how I mentioned how all colors are not created equal, even when they are in the same collection? Yup, that is the case here. I can’t stop wearing this shade of rosy rose. Great for a summer day!

The State of the Union - Liquid Lipsticks

State-of-the-union

I think I’ve been around the liquid lipstick block a few times now and with the latest ones I’ve tried being on the indie side, I have some more observations. It seems that just about every brand is coming out with their own version these days, which is great, but not so great when you kinda know what formula works for you, and you don’t get it when you open the tube. If you’re on the liquid lipstick (will abbreviate to LL) bandwagon, do you know which form you like best? I think I do, now that I’ve tried quite a few different brands:

Chanel, Wet N Wild, Tarte, Buxom (part of BareMinerals), ColourPop, Motives, Cailyn Cosmetics, L’Oreal, Make Up For Ever, Stila, Laura Mercier, Merle Norman, NARS, Lime Crime, Ofra Cosmetics, Fyinnae, Maybelline, Ciate London, L'Oreal, Napoleon Perdis, Houglass Cosmetics, CoverGirl, LipSense by SeneGence, Giorgio Armani, Sephora, Kat Von D, MAC, Makeup Monster, LA Splash Cosmetics, Caked, Beauty Bakerie.

Brands on my list to try: The new ones from Smashbox, Anastasia Beverly Hills (I know, I know, I'm like the only one on the planet but I've read mixed reviews), Jeffree Star, Milani (drugstores are always out of the Amore Mattes!), Lonely Planet.

Must Haves for Your Beauty Emergency Car Kit!

It never fails, I always find myself needing something beauty-related when I’m in the car going somewhere, so over the last year, I’ve put together a small kit that I keep with me in the front seat, so I’m never without ... anything. Here are 6 of my must-haves in the car.

Beauty-Emergency-Car-Kit

1. Nail Clippers, Nail File - REVLON Deluxe Nail Clippers ($2.49 @ diapers.com) – these clippers have been my favorite brand for years. The cutters are always sharp and it never falls apart. Of course things don’t last forever, so glad these are inexpensive. And for a nail file … I have my favorite that I keep in the house, so for the car, I just use the cardboard ones like these Beauty 360 Emery Boards from CVS ($1.99/10 pack @ cvs.com).

2. Tweezers – there’s always a stray brow hair that needs-a-pluckin’ and I’m in a serious relationship with ones from TWEEZERMAN. They’re strong, always there for me and I’m really attracted to their Pink Perfection Mini Slant Tweezers. $14 @ sephora.com.

3. Nail Polish RemoverL.A. COLORS Nail Polish Remover ($1.59/32 pads @ lacolors.com) these handy removers come in 6 different fruity scents and the grape-scented ones I have are actually able to mask the strong scent of the acetone.

4. Floss – I keep floss picks everywhere! In my purse, my car, my desk, hidden in a box on my coffee table. I’m not married to any particular brand but these Complete Clean Floss Ultra Strong Shred Proof Floss in Fresh Mint ($4.29/125 flossers @ amazon.com) by DENTEK work well.

5. Face Wipes - wipes are soooo handy to have in the car and they’re great for so many other things! After using one, I find myself using it afterward to clean parts of my car interior when I’m stuck in traffic. In my car now is BURT’S BEES Facial Cleansing Towelettes with White Tea Extract ($2.99/30 wipes @ drugstore.com).

6. Clear Nail Polish – great for touching up a run in a stocking, a loose thread on a shirt button and I don’t have a favorite brand. I just use whichever one I’m using on my nails that’s starting to run out. One I like is MAYBELLINE NEW YORK Show Nail Lacquer in Clear ($4.29 @ drugstore.com).

 Majic-Kit-from-Majic-Beauty

Now when it comes to makeup, yes, a makeup palette will do but remember, we are talking about a very small stash of items for an e-m-e-r-g-e-n-c-y. I found a really cool 2 ½” x 1” x 3” tall kit that houses 4 swippers of eye shadow, a small eye liner, lip liner, mascara and lipgloss. White the products are not your Lancome kind of quality, it will get you by and I so feel like this kit was made just for this story!

It’s called the Majic Kit and is put out by MAJIC BEAUTY. Choose from Golden Peach and Healthy Nude for $19.99 @ amazon.com.

Do you have anything else to add to the Car Emergency Kit?
