Estee Lauder Opens 2014 with a New Mascara!

It seems like the most popular question I am asked when someone I meet finds out I blog about beauty is what my favorite mascara is. It is this one, of course, but overall, I’d have to say this next line is the most consistent with their superb quality of mascaras. Heck, they could be just putting the same formula out in different packaging for all we know!

Estee-Lauder-Sumptuous-Infinite

The newest from ESTEE LAUDER is their Sumptuous Infinite Daring Length + Volume Mascara ($26 @ esteelauder.com) and comes out any day now. They’ve redesigned their brush in this one with their first molded brush. What does that mean exactly? It’s 12 rows of bristles includes 11 short rows that makes it able to get at the shorter lashes. The one row is called the Extended Comb and is longer than the rest and helps comb the color through the lashes and fan them out. I couldn't get a good shot of the comb in the below picture :(

The formula contains carbon black fibers that are fused onto lashes giving them more volume and really, who doesn’t need or want that with a mascara!?

I got an average of 9 hours of flake-free wear out of this mascara for the 6 times I’ve worn it and recommend this to anyone looking for a new mascara in the New Year.

The Strangest Looking Mascara Contraption You'll Ever See!

When it comes to combing out lashes after applying a few coats of mascara, I am a fan of the metal combs, not the plastic combs. This one from Perfect Lash Comb, which is in my Hall of Fame, or this recently discovered one from the ROYAL & LANGNICKEL line, called the Silk Brow/Lash Groom ($9.99 @ royalbrushstore.com) are two good ones to consider.

And this Mega Effects Mascara from AVON kind of uses the same kind of idea for applying their mascara. Using the bristles like one of these above combs, you comb in the mascara for an even and clump-free application. When I first saw this in a magazine, I didn’t see the correlation between the metal comb and mascara, but after getting it in my hands, it’s pretty obvious that this way works, and it works, well … click after the jump to see!

Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes! Mascara and Inner Rim Liner

Do you have one eye that always seems to come out better when you put on makeup? For me, my right eye is always easier. I’m right-handed so maybe that has something to do with it? Anyway, speaking of eyes, the TARTE COSMETICS line just came out with two new items for eyes as part of their Fall 2013 CollectionLights, Camera, Flashes! Statement Mascara in Black and Lights, Camera, Flashes! Waterproof 12-Hr Inner Rim Liner in Black. Let’s get a closer look at both, shall we?

Review+Swatches - Butter LONDON Color Cosmetics

The BUTTER LONDON line just expanded their line this month by adding makeup items to their nail polish line. Comprised of WINK Mascara ($20/6 shades), WINK Cream Eye Shadow ($18/6 shades), WINK Eye Pencil ($18/6 shades), LIPPY Tinted Balm ($20/6 shades) and CHEEKY Cream Blush ($20/4 shades). I tried some of their glosses here so I guess this was in the works for some time.

New Review! Bare Escentuals Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara

Here’s a big release from the BARE ESCENTUALS brand! It’s their Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara ($18 @ bareescentuals.com) and at first I wasn’t wow’d by it at all. It took me a few uses to get used to it and see the benefit of it. If you are looking for length, this is one for you. Separation? You get that took.

Bare-Escentuals-Domination2The secret to this one is not only the formula but of course, the brush. It’s what they are calling a Protwist180 Wand where the bristles spiral up the brush like a spiral staircase. So it is able to deposit color on every lash and really lengthen each one.

The only negative I found is that I tend to use the tip of the wand to get the lashes in the outside upper and bottom corners but there ain’t no bristles there to do this, so I had to adjust this habit. Otherwise, this is a really nice quality mascara.

A Buildable Mascara Throughout the Day? Really?

Neutrogena-Healthy-Length-MascaraHave you ever heard of a buildable mascara? Like being able to apply more after it sets? My experience is that you pretty much can’t update it again … until now! I wouldn’t have believed it if I didn’t experience it but this new Healthy Lengths Mascara from NEUTROGENA.

Now I’m pretty set with my go-to mascara here but this one kinda threw me, in a good way! I really let each layer dry before applying another and I noticed instead of my lashes acting like hardened spikes of wheat, they were instead pliable and open to accepting more layers of this on them. I got 4 layers and they look quite nice!

Now, the downside. While it lasts on lashes if you don’t touch them, as soon as water touches them, off it starts to come. So forget about wearing this to a wedding or if you see a sad commercial. Here is my idea -  wear it to work and then when you have another place at night to go, layer on some waterproof or other mascara that will set it. The finished lashes look so good that this trait is such a bummer.

Available in 3 shades for $8.49 @ neutrogena.com.

Review: IT Cosmetics Tightline Mascara

IT-Cosmetics-Tightline-Full-Lash-Line-Black-Mascara-Primer-DuoMascara wands are like skirt hems, they oscillate between thick/longer and thin/short by trend it seems. One that is concentrating on getting every lash even at the base of the lashes is IT COSMETICSTightline Lash Line Black Mascara Primer.

What it is: an ultra-skinny wand so you can coat lashes starting at the root of the hairs next to the lid. It’s also like using an eyeliner in that it deposits the black color on the skin, filling in areas in between the hairs or where hairs are missing. It also has the word primer in the name but I’m not sure how that play into this one. Hmmm…

My take: Not just for the base of the lashes; I bring the wand the whole way through lashes. I loved their mascara here and this one probably uses the same great formula.

I see these sell as a duo only @ qvc.com for $29.

Beauty Addicts Show Off Mascara

Beauty-Addicts-Show-Off-MascaraWhy am I super surprised when I come across a mascara that actually works? I guess because I try so many out that well, suck. The one I’m touting as yeah is BEAUTY ADDICTS Show Off Mascara ($20 @ beautyaddicts.com). I’ve only met two people in my life who are fine with just there lashes and just giving them a small boost. Most want wah-wah-wow lashes and I fall into that category.

The result reminds me of this one as it gives long, defined lashes and the formula contains Argan Oil to condition the hairs. Ok, that’s a first.

It clumped a little when I was putting it on but I was able to work those out with the curved brush. It didn’t flake off or smudge and I got about full evening (3 different times) of wear before it started to fade off. This one comes in Jet Black. Thanks BA!!

Product Review: POP Beauty Peak Performance Mascara

I must admit I was a little perplexed when I first saw POP BEAUTY’s Peak Performance Mascara as it is totally untraditional. The application “wand” looks more like a venus fly trap but it’s pretty easy to use – just click the bottom of the pen to bring the color to the top, wiggle the comb from the root to the tip of the lashes a few times, and voila, mascara'd lashes; essentially you are just combing through the lashes with color. For the middle lashes, just re-angle the comb and proceed the same as the outer lashes.

So how do I like it overall? Click after the jump!
