Have You Tried Highlighting & Contouring Yet? This Can Help.

So far in 2014, highlighting and contouring has to be the hottest trend right now and makeup companies are hearing the rumbles and putting out products to make it easy to do just that.

Take this one from one of my favorite lines, IT COSMETICS. Their just released My Sculpted Face contains 6 waterproof powders to be used to contour and sculpt your way to a natural look. I think I first got turned onto it after seeing the Allure magazine’s 2013 Blogger of the Year, Cara Brook from Maskcara and her Hac-ing demonstration. I tried it a few times with different products and just couldn’t seem to find the right mix of colors. Maybe I wasn’t choosing the right shades? Or maybe I just need more practice! Either way, I’m quite fascinated with the whole thing and was excited to try this one from IT.

Review+Swatches - Dolce & Gabbana The Eyeshadow Smooth Quad in Desert

With the huge success of nude makeup these days, I found a cool eye shadow quad in this family from the DOLCE & GABBANA brand. It’s The Eyeshadow Smooth Eye Colour Quad in Desert ($59 @ Besides the usual, “are these shades something I would wear?” question, I like that each is a different finish – one is matte, one is metallic and one is satin and one is pearl. And to answer the previous question, yes, I think each of these four shades is totally wearable for all skin types.

Gift Pick: When You Need Something Quick!

What It Is: BENEFIT COSMETICS Groovy Kind-a Love! and Luv it Up! Holiday Makeup Kits - $36 and $25 @

What I Like It: Every gift set the brand makes is ready for gifting and just so much fun that you’re sure to get a smile out of the recipients. Sets like their aforementioned contain multiply deluxe sample sized shadows, blushes, lippies etc from the brand all in a keepsake tin box. I don’t know how the brand does it! I mean, I think it’s expensive to create unique packaging like they do for a lot of their products and limited-edition ones but I guess that’s how you get people’s attention, so take advantage of it!

Gift Pick: For the MAC-oholic In Your Life

What It Is: MAC Stroke of Midnight: Face Palettes - $49.50 @

Why I Like It: Everything about these cute little limited-edition kits is cute – the unique shape of the plastic cases, the mini shadows, lippies, Eye Kohl and Face Powder and you can choose from either a Warm Palette or Cool Palette.

Both palettes are sold-out on their site but seems to have them in stock. Or you can chance it and  find them in the stores. Good luck!

Gift Pick: For the Girl Who Loves Unique Makup Colors

What It Is: URBAN DECAY Anarchy Face Case - $44 @

Why I Like It: I’ve come to the conclusion that UD makes the best lipsticks on the planet. And I mutter this to myself again and again when I try a bad performing one. And this Face Case comes with the brilliantly created Super-Saturate High Gloss Lip Color in Scandal (a bright metallic raspberry shimmer). These Lip Colors are creamy, totally saturate with color and last on lips for quite a few hours. I could go on and on about these forever!

Moving on the rest of the sleek palette, I think we all struggle deciding what products to tuck into our purse each day or in this case, I would say night. Know that this one has all your basics covered for whenever you decide to take it out:

  • 5 Eyeshadows – Redemption (deep gunmetal satin), Fray (warm mauve matte), Vaporize (deep metallic grey-taupe shimmer), Provocateur (light metallic mauve shimmer w/multi-dimensional micro-glitter) and Revolt (bright metallic silver shimmer w/silver micro-glitter)
  • 2 Blushes – Fetish (mauve-pink) and Quickie (bright pink)
  • 1 Highlighter
  • 1 Deluxe-size Glide-On Eye Pencil in the ever-popular Perversion (blackest black matte)

Review+Swatches - Votre Vu Quad and Dolce & Gabbana Eye Crayon

I’m really feeling this pencil and eye shadow quad together. The colors are just so now!

VOTRE VU Palette Play Eye Shadow Quad Palette in Violette ($42 @ – loving this quad with four very wearable colors: Chiffon (beige), Raw Silk (light mauve), Moiré (purple), Black Velvet (black). Wear them individually or all together or … with DOLCE & GABBANA The Kohl Pencil Intense Kohl Eye Crayon in Dahlia #5 ($30 @ – this medium purple has a nice metallic finish to it that nicely highlights any of the Votre Vu colors in the quad.

Review+Swatches - Shiseido Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trios

Inspired by Shiseido Artistic Director Dick Page’s travels around the globe, SHISEIDO just came out with some new Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trios ($33 @ Just gazing at these colors, I can only imagine where Mr. Page even went! The amazon with the deep, rich greens? Or the Orient with the golds and coppers? The world truly is his oyster.

I have to admit, it was hard to delve into these two eye shadow trios because they look nice just in the compact (yup, I’m filing this post under my on-going feature of Product As Art that are too pretty to touch) but I’m glad I did. They apply so smoothly and blend really well and so worth the price tag.

Each color has a satiny finish and includes Micromatic Color Pigments, which reflect light, giving a bolder look. And the shadows also contain their signature moisturizing agent, Super Hydro-Wrap Vitalizing DE, but as I’ve stated before on my site, I’m not sure an ingredient like this in such a low amount can make a difference in a product.

So let’s take a closer look at each trio!

Review+Swatches - Marc Jacobs Beauty Lovemarc & Style Eye-Con No. 3 Plush Eyeshadow

MARC JACOBS just released a 16-piece line makeup called Marc Jacobs Beauty through Sephora a few weeks ago and the buzz is deafening! I got my paws on two of the products, the Style Eye-Con No. 3 – Plush Shadow in #106 The Rebel ($42) and the Lovemarc – Lip Gel in #128 Seduce Me ($30). I love the black lacquer of the packaging and colors look great but looks can be deceiving sometimes, so let’s take a closer look after the pics!
