5 Favorite New Beauty Releases

5-Favorite-New-Beauty-Products
1.
PIXI BEAUTY Full Coverage Foundation Brush ($15 @ pixibeauty.com) – such a compact head but don’t let the lack of length fool you. It still does a great job at getting your liquid products into those corners and contours.

2. OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE COSMETICS Crème Colour Concentrate in Discipline ($23 @ occmakeup.com and nordstrom.com) – described as a bruised-bronze, this multi-tasking creamy color can be used on the eyes, lips, and cheeks (note that not all 17 shades can be used in the eye area).

3. L’OREAL Infallible Powder Eyeliner Pen in Purple Smoke ($9.99 @ drugstore.com and drugstores nationwide) – if the packaging says ‘Infallible’ on it, I’m in! Seriously though, their Infallible line is flawless. And these fat liners are great for applying a smoking eye in seconds.

4. BENEFIT COSMETICS the POREfessional: License to Blot ($20 @ benefitcosmetics.com) – this is the latest addition to the POREfessional collection and will be great for the upcoming season. It’s an instant blotting stick with tiny invisible spheres that will mattifying any oil your face puts forth.

5. BEAUTY 360 Shape-Defining Nail File ($4.99 @ cvs.com and CVS stores nationwide) – this is my new favorite file! I’ve noticed that sometimes a file has to be “broken in” so it’s not too harsh on the nails. This one arrived perfect and ready to use.

Is Bare Escentuals Complexion Rescue for You?

I’m not quite sure if the brilliance lies solely with BARE ESCENTUALS new Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream ($29/1.18oz), the Smoothing Face Brush ($28) or if it’s the combo of the two.

First, let me break down this Gel Cream for you.

Q's Answered on the Most Game-Changing Product of 2015

I had a few questions emailed to me from readers after this feature the other day on the hows and whats of COVER FX’s Custom Cover Drops so I wanted to address them here. When it comes to HOW to apply it, I consider this product kind of an at-home beauty experiment; a DIY, if you so please, in the sense that you should apply it however is comfortable for you.

Cover-FX-Custom-Cover-Drops-drop-and-sunscreen-on-palette-for-site

Here are a few different ways I’ve tried: above I'm showing a drop next to some plain sunscreen on a tray I use to mix paints on when I’m crafting. On a side note, literally hours after I took this photo, I got Beauty Blender’s Sur.face Pro, which is great because it’s made just for mixing makeup! Now I have a tray for each.

So you can mix your Custom Cover Drops with your product on a tray or add the drop/s to a product in your hand, or if you’re mixing it with a primer, I’ve also put a squirt of product and a few drops on the back of my hand and then mixed them together with the brand's Liquid Foundation Brush ($38). But I nixed that after I started thinking about how the products might just be sinking into the back of my hand so I switched back to mixing on the tray.

So I guess it’s up to you on HOW you want to mix the drops and a face product together.

Products-I-mix-with-Cover-FX-Custom-Cover-Drops

The other question I received was with WHAT can you mix it with? I’d say 99% of your face products! Like I’ve been mixing a few drops with products I’ve been trying in the past few weeks - Cover FX’s Mattifying Primer with Anti-Acne Treatment ($38/1oz), Murad’s Invisiblur Perfecting Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 30 ($65/1oz @ murad.com and ulta.com) and Tarte’s Maracuja Neck Treatment ($49/1.7oz @ tartecosmetics.com and sephora.com). And the pigment drops blend in beautifully and tints them all my shade!

If you have any other questions about Cover FX’s new Custom Cover Drops, I’ll be having a Twitter Party tomorrow, Friday, March 20th from 3pm to 4pm EST, just to talk about them! Join the chat by using the hashtag #dropportunity and looking forward to talking to you then! And I'll be giving away some bottles of the Custom Cover Drops.

Gift Pick: For the Beauty Lover Who Has It All

SnowmanWhat It Is: BECCA COSMETICS The One Perfecting Brush - $49 @ ulta.com.

Why I Like It: I was recently introduced to this brush even though it’s been out for a while, I know, I know, gimme a break on this one, and I’m flummoxed at just how diverse it is; I haven’t met one like it … ever! You ready? It can be used with your cream makeup, powders, self-tanner, and liquids like lotions and you can go from each one of those without cleaning this brush in-between applications. Pretty unheard of.

The secret, or not so secret, to it is the non-porous goat hair bristles. Any product you use with it sits on top of the bristles instead of absorbing into the hairs or deep in the brush near the base.

It measure 3.5” wide, fits snug in the hand and I have to say that the bristles are just perfects spaced out so whatever product you use with this one will get a nice application.

And just for the holidays, they made it in a limited-edition chic gold.

Finally Found! 2 For Full-Proof HAC-ing!

Have you tried HAC-ing yet (highlighting and contouring)? I mean really tried it like you see in the picture below by @DressYourFace and do your whole face? I have but not this heavy and I still can’t get it to look right all around my face; just parts of it. Like I have the cheeks down and then around the outside of the face, well, most of the time it looks right … I think.

HAC-ing-example-from-@dressyourface

Part of the reason I think I always feel it could look better is that I feel like I’m using the wrong brush and wrong shades of HAC-ing powder. I made some recommendations from some palettes here but for me it seems that most of the shades work for me but not all of them, for the most part, in a given palette. Maybe I just need to take a few of them to someone who really knows how to do it and get a tutorial already! Or, I can just stick to keeping it simply with these next two that I find work great for me.

Makeup Brushes You Need to Know About

Do yourself a favor this week and give your makeup brushes the once over. Do you have the ones you need? Do you like them? Are there ones you need to toss? If you need to pick up some new ones, I recommend giving the new Heavenly Luxe Brushes that just came out from IT COSMETICS a visit.

Made from synthetic hair, the brand really seems to have looked at what kind of brushes we women need or what’s missing in the market place. Here are my favorites from the collection:

IT-Cosmetics-Heavenly-Luxe-Brush-Collection

1. Dual Airbrush Concealer Brush ($24) – this is a great one for the purse as it comes in its own case. One side is fluff for buffing color on lids and the other can also be used for shadows but as the name states, also concealer under the eyes (they could have done better with the cap on this side though. It catches some of the bristles and bends them when I put it on).

2. Mega Fan Brush ($48) – great for applying bronzer under the jaw or for using powders. Love this one!

3. Wand Ball Powder Brush ($48) – this one’s fibers measure 2” long at their longest and is so soft! You’ll get a nice application of face powder with this one.

4. Pointed Precision Complexion Brush ($38) – get into any creases and harder to reach areas like around the nose with this pointed baby.

5. Flat Top Buffing Foundation Brush ($48) – I can’t resist a flat-top brush as I feel like I have the most control with one.

6. No Tug Dual Eyeshadow Brush ($24) – the longer bristled-side will become your go to eye shadow brush! It’s the perfect size and everything. The shorter side is great for smudging.

7. Tightliner 10-in-1 Dual-Ended Brush ($24) – one side is an angled brush to help get color in between lashes and the other side is for lining the water line with color.

8. Jumbo Powder Brush ($58) – they say the bigger the brush, the closer to … ok, wait, that’s heels, but if you like a big luxurious brush, this is your answer.

So tell me, now that you’ve looked at your brushes, will you be picking any of these up?

Shake, Drop, Buff with new bareSkin from Bare Escentuals

Bare-Minerals-bareSkin-Foundation-and-Perfecting-Face-Brush
BARE ESCENTUALS
wants you to throw out everything you know about liquid foundation when reading about their latest release. And this was their stance when releasing their famed bareMinerals Foundation many moons ago. The brand highly dislikes liquid foundation because at the time most were filled with chemicals and just overall bad for the skin. So I’m surprised and delighted at the same time with this new release from them.

When looking at the bottle of bareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 20 ($29/1oz), it looks like any other liquid foundation you’d find at cosmetic counters/drugstores but(it) they call this a foundation in the serum form. Ummm, huh? It’s a serum with half the ingredients of a traditional foundation and it comes with a lot of yes’s and no’s as in:

  • No Oils
  • No Silicon
  • No Water
  • No Parabens
  • No Fragrance
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Non-Chemical Broad Spectrum SPF 20

Created for all skin types and tones, the super thin formula combines a tone-correcting mineral foundation and a brightening serum in one container. And you can adjust the coverage by how many drops you use: 2 drops = sheer coverage, 4 drops = medium coverage, 6 drops = full coverage.

Bare-Minerals-bareSkin-Foundation

So does this give my face the look of perfect skin like it’s goal? In a word, well two, surprisingly YES! I was super surprised at how it covered the few dark spots I have on my face that I haven’t been able to get rid of. I mean, it covered them lickety-split AND it didn’t fade after an hour or two.

What’s in this formula is, “an ultra-thin, weightless fluid that harnesses jojoba-coated mineral pigments suspended in a coconut-derived base. Combined with a potent blend of vitamin C and supercharged lilac plant stem cells.” So it not over covers up marks on the face but the vitamin C will help make them fade away for good. And from one of their studies, they claim 95% of participants in a clinical study saw a measurable improvement in the appearance of dark spots over an 8 week period. Hmmmm. Well I’m going to use foundation anyway so might as well help out the dark spots I’ve been wanting to rid my face of, right?

Bare-Minerals-bareSkin-Perfecting-Face-Brush

And they recommend using this with their cool Perfecting Face Brush ($28). The brush has a reservoir in the middle of it where you drop the drops of foundation. I’m sure you can get good coverage with just using your fingers or a sponge but this using this buffing brush is actually pretty fun … as much as foundation application can be fun.

Choose from 20 shades @ bareminerals.com and nordstrom.com.

Is this a foundation you’ll be checking out?
