The Matte Lip – For those who prefer timeless glamour rather than all-out flash, the sophisticated allure of matte reigns supreme. Now, MAC expands its offering of this classic suede-like finish with 12 new shades of Matte and Retro Matte Lipstick. These lipsticks promise a pop of colour that will linger on your lips with impressive staying power.
In my continued quest to try every liquid lipstick available, I’ve come to the LA SPLASH COSMETICS line. I stalked their Instagram page for a few weeks before deciding on which colors I thought would work best for me.
It seems that their Lip Couture Waterproof Liquid Lipsticks have received the best reviews so I bought the Latte Confession (browny mauve), Forbidden (bright fuchsia), and Innocent Vixen (nude beige). So how did they do? I must quietly rave at how well these wear! I had to become used to any liquid lipstick eventually start to flake but these seemed to have lasted the longest of any brand I’ve tried so far before they flake.
Yes, each is a little too matte for my liking but the longevity outweighs it. And I guess since they last the longest, they also seem to be the most difficult to remove as traditional makeup remover don’t seem to work. They have their own product to remove it but I also found coconut oil works great too.
I also tried the Smitten LipTint Mousse in Inflamed (a blue-red) and while the color was gorgeous, it didn’t seem to hold up as well on my lips as the aforementioned. I gave it to a friend of mine to further test and see if she has the same issue (forgot to get a picture of it before giving it to her!). Will keep you posted.
On the minus side, each lippie comes in a clear plastic box, which I felt was unnecessary and a waste as each top was also sealed to the base.
On the plus side, I really like the doe foot. It’s on the long side and allows quite a bit of product on it removing the task of having to dip the brush in multiple times.
Overall I’m giving these Lip Coutures high marks and plan on purchasing some of the other shades.

I don’t know about you but I just can’t resist a tinted lip balm. My collection has reached a totally unneeded proportion (to most) but I say the more the merrier! And besides, each balm only imparts a certain amount of tint and no two are the same, right? Haha. I love the way I convince myself but there is something different about these next ones.
The new ones I’m adding to my stash are BARE ESCENTUALS bareMinerals Pop of Passion Lip Oil-Balm ($16 @ bareescentuals.com). Yup, you read correctly, these oils, as in, passion fruit seed oil, jojoba and sunflower seed oils, as well as vitamin E.
Unlike the trend of highlighting and contouring, or HACing, the trend of liquid lipsticks is pretty doable for anybody. With HACing, you really have to have some kind of idea of what you’re doing, what you want to bring forth or set back, blah, blah, blah. And yes, I don’t have it totally down either, just parts of my face.
With the liquid lipstick trend, it’s basically lip color on steroids so if you can apply lipstick or lip gloss, you can apply liquid lipsticks!
It seems to have started out as just a handful of brands a few years ago with MAC (I even have theirs in my Hall of Fame), Korres, Addiction NV (who I don’t think is around anymore), Make Up For Ever and L’Oreal and it wasn’t even called liquid lipstick; not even sure when the name liquid lipstick started surfacing with these.
I’m a fan of all the aforementioned brands but just in case you were wondering, I think the OG liquid lipstick brand has to be LipSense by SeneGence. Thoughts?
But now, this seems to be a full-on trend with whole brands being built just on it like Jeffree Star’s new collection, Pretty Zombie Cosmetics and I’m sure others I just haven’t caught up with just yet.
So just what is liquid lipstick anyways? Click after the jump to find out!
Nudes never go out of style and MAC COSMETICS just came out with some amp’d up ones in their Bao Bao Wan Collection. So what exactly is a Bao Bao Wan? (I didn’t know either!). She is one of China’s biggest cross-over stars but probably best known for her jewelry line.
So this collaboration with MAC seems pretty natural and wow, are the colors ever stunning! With rich metallic golds, bronzes, and a dash of bright teal and lavender, most of the items look like they will be perfect next to sun-kissed skin in the coming months. Quite excited!
These were my favorite beauty products for February! See any you’ll be trying?

I think it’s more wintery around the country right now than when this Shimmer Glow The Winter Palette Collection came out from DOLCE & GABBANA last month. So I don’t feel so bad taking a few to get to it but I’m glad I did. As seen on the models in their winter runway finale, these Shimmer Lip Lipsticks and Shimmer Powder are for sure the standouts from the collection that just go with everything.
Kind of like this move, I’m so tempted to just throw out all my regular lipsticks. I mean, if they don’t last on my lips, what’s the point in putting it on in the first place? I guess this is a tiny bit different than the nail polish situation in that I don’t seemed to get as annoyed when my lippie starts to fade as when I chip a nail.

Matte Lippie Love - CAILYN COSMETICS Extreme Matte Tint in #3 Illusionist - $19 @ cailyncosmetics.com – matte lippies are my thing right now, what can I say and this rosy nude goes great with everything.
Shadow Love - DOLCE & GABBANA Perfect Mono Cream Eye Color - $36 @ dolcegabbana.com and nordstrom.com – this is the first go-around in the category of cream shadow for the brand and I must say they’ve done a good job – 14 long-lasting shades with great textures and finishes like matte and pearls to choose from. Color picks: Dahlia (shown here) and Cocoa.
Hot Pink Lippie Love - SHU UEMURA Vision of Beauty – Rouge Unlimited in Fuschia - $30 @ shuuemura.com – I’m a sucker for hot pink lippies and this one from Shu, with its hybrid pigment, is a really nice surprise for fall.
Nude Gloss Love - AERIN Weekday Lip Gloss - $30 @ aerin.com – it’s not often that I reach for a lip gloss but for some reason, a true nude lippie makes your look, well, look the most polished. And this nude gives color! Nothing worse than a nude that skimps on the pigment.
Primer Love - COVER FX Calming Primer - $38/1oz @ coverfx.com – if your skin is sensitive or you have Rosacea, this face primer was made just for you. The Endothelyol inside relieves redness and they’ve also included St. John’s Wort inside to handle inflammation.
Face Illuminator Love - MIRABELLA Faerie Sparkle Swirling Pearl Brilliant - $40 @ mirabellabeauty.com – holiday parties are upon us, so why not add a touch of pearly glow to your cheeks and décolletage? This mineral-based highlighter is one of the better quality ones I’ve seen in some time.
Sometimes I'm just not in the mood for a whole face of makeup or *gasp* lipstick but if I'm hitting up a holiday party, they're kind of required. Well, PIXI BEAUTY seems to understand as they just came out with a Shea Butter Lip Balm Trio in Balmy Winter ($16 @ pixibeauty.com) and there’s a vanilla-scented, color-tinted one for every occasion you'll have this season – Comfort Clear (no color), Honey Nectar (nude) and Ripe Raspberry (raspberry pink). Since each contains Shea Butter, vitamin E, you can certainly count on them to keep lips moisturized and protected from the cold and with two outta the three containing color, they will at least make your lips look like you're holiday party ready, even if the rest of you isn't.
You can also pick these balms up individually for $8 each and there are an additional 3 colors available!
