A New Brand on the Scene - Velvet 59

Sometimes it’s hard to keep my makeup products straight. Take these VELVET 59 to the max Liquid Lipsticks ($20 @, for example. I should have reviewed and swatched these a few months ago and misplaced them. But better late than never!

You may have remembered my review of their other lippies here and I was tre-excited to experience these babies!

In order to get a good feel for any liquid liquids, I like to try the red, my favorite lippie color by far, and then one of the more neutral colors because even though it’s the same product, colors can make a products performance vary from color to color.

Nyx Cosmetics Gets In on the Liquid Lipstick Craze!

It’s no secret that I have a great love of liquid lipsticks (for this post I will call them LL) and as I mentioned here, and I’m seeing different formulas emerge and I continue to explore this category. Of course I was super curious about the Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks from NYX COSMETICS ($7 @ I heard about a few months ago. They’ve been selling out everywhere (I checked Ulta 3 times) and couldn’t seem to get my hands on any until their PR people sent me 3 to try, so thank you!

As the name states, these Liquid Suedes are not straight-up LL’s. The formula is a little thicker and not as drying, more like these from Laura Mercier. So while I like each formula as each has their pluses and minuses, it comes down to how well they performed.

Are MAC's Vamplify Your Lip Gloss Answer? #MACVamplify

I’ve really put the lip glosses down in place of the lipsticks in the past few years but these Vamplify lip glosses from MAC might be changing my mind. They infuse a new colour-boosting technology where I don’t think any gloss can touch it when it comes to color saturation! There are 17 shades available and I didn’t have to apply layer after layer after layer of gloss just to get a hint of color.

What I’m Loving Right … Now!

($35/15ml @ – this new-to-me line is made to work with your current skin care products in that it has the ability to penetrate deep into the skin to nourish and fix that targeted area. This SubQ Eyes contains some major ingredients to fix all around the eyes – puffiness, dark circles, hydration and fine lines. Yes, I could list all the ingredients but really, they’ll probably mean as much to you as to me. The proof is in the … serum and this one works and doesn’t take weeks to see results. So keep using the products you’re using and just add this eye serum!

BEAUTY 360 Portable Manicure Kit ($9.99 @ – this kit contains 5 interchangeable tips for giving yourself a manicure or pedicure at home: Buffing Tool, Emery Tool, Shaping Tool, Fine Shaping Tool and a Cuticle Pusher.

TATCHA Silken Pore Perfecting Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 35 ($68/2oz @ and – just because we’re changing seasons doesn’t mean you should ditch the sunscreen. New from Tatcha is a lightweight and non-comedogenic one that protects skin from both UVA and UVB. This one doesn’t feel greasy and I didn’t have to wait for it to absorb before applying makeup.

BUXOM True Nude Lip Foundation in Bare ($19 @ – not sure how I missed these when they came out a while ago but I’m glad I did. This one shown here in Bare, a chestnut brown, looks like a regular ol’ lipstick but it adheres to lips beautifully and acts more like a liquid lipstick. And it dries down to a super matte finish that doesn’t budget for hours. I’m in! Available in 7 shades

VOTRE VU Silk Stockings ($34/4.06oz @ – nylons are still so uncool to wear but sometimes you want a little color but not a tan. This skin nourisher will give skin a dash of glow and it contains some  nourishing ingredients like vitamin E and extracts of calendula and Saint John’s wort. And what’s great about it is that it won’t wear off until you wash it off.

Disclosure: Some of these items were provided for review purposes. Some I bought.

There's A New Liquid Lipstick In Town

Even though the category of liquid lipstick is still relatively new on the scene, there seems to be two different kinds that I’ve experienced - those that dry down on the lips and *BAM*, they don't move. These ones seem to be the most matte and drying but do last the longest, with some up to 12 hours. You can pretty much eat and drink anything without having to worry about your lip color coming off, unless what you're eat contains oils. And then there are those that are a tad more moisturizing than the aforementioned thus making them a tad more transferable. These seem to last about 4 to 5 hours but overall feel better on the lips.

The latter is what the latest from CIATE LONDON fall into with their Liquid Velvet Matte Lip Slicks ($19 @ I was surprised when I read about these as I thought the brand was just about nails and would pretty much always be about nails but it’s great to see this new direction!

These contain Hyaluronic Acid and their own blend ingredient called PlushPigment, which helps with the staying power and moisturizing feel on the lips.

So which formula is the best? Click below to find out!

New Makeup Brand Alert! Introducing Velvet 59.

Have you heard of the VELVET 59 line yet? I’m not sure if the line is called Velvet 59 by Paris Manning or just Velvet 59. Anyway, the creator is a 22 year-old world traveler that grew up around cosmetics her whole life and looked up to the classic beauties of yesteryear and wanted to create a brand that captured that glamour but with a modern twist. All the products are vegan and cruelty-free and she uses some really unique ingredients in some of them.

Choose from lipsticks, liquid lipsticks, an eye shadow palette, contour palette and lip glosses.

First up, The Malibu Sunset Lipstick Collection. These creamy lipsticks in the metallic rose gold cases lasted about 4 to 5 hours on lips and each gave off a matte velvet finish. The four shades are totally wearable for a lot of skin tones. See anything you like?

Visiting MAC Cosmetics Summer 2015 Matte Lipsticks

Liquid Couture Liquid Lipstick from LA Splash Cosmetics

In my continued quest to try every liquid lipstick available, I’ve come to the LA SPLASH COSMETICS line. I stalked their Instagram page for a few weeks before deciding on which colors I thought would work best for me.

It seems that their Lip Couture Waterproof Liquid Lipsticks have received the best reviews so I bought the Latte Confession (browny mauve), Forbidden (bright fuchsia), and Innocent Vixen (nude beige). So how did they do? I must quietly rave at how well these wear! I had to become used to any liquid lipstick eventually start to flake but these seemed to have lasted the longest of any brand I’ve tried so far before they flake.

The Latest in Tinted Lip Balms!

I don’t know about you but I just can’t resist a tinted lip balm. My collection has reached a totally unneeded proportion (to most) but I say the more the merrier! And besides, each balm only imparts a certain amount of tint and no two are the same, right? Haha. I love the way I convince myself but there is something different about these next ones.

The new ones I’m adding to my stash are BARE ESCENTUALS bareMinerals Pop of Passion Lip Oil-Balm ($16 @ Yup, you read correctly, these oils, as in, passion fruit seed oil, jojoba and sunflower seed oils, as well as vitamin E.

What is Liquid Lipstick? Here to Stay or Passing Trend?

Unlike the trend of highlighting and contouring, or HACing, the trend of liquid lipsticks is pretty doable for anybody. With HACing, you really have to have some kind of idea of what you’re doing, what you want to bring forth or set back, blah, blah, blah. And yes, I don’t have it totally down either, just parts of my face.

With the liquid lipstick trend, it’s basically lip color on steroids so if you can apply lipstick or lip gloss, you can apply liquid lipsticks!

It seems to have started out as just a handful of brands a few years ago with MAC (I even have theirs in my Hall of Fame), Korres, Addiction NV (who I don’t think is around anymore), Make Up For Ever and L’Oreal and it wasn’t even called liquid lipstick; not even sure when the name liquid lipstick started surfacing with these.

I’m a fan of all the aforementioned brands but just in case you were wondering, I think the OG liquid lipstick brand has to be LipSense by SeneGence. Thoughts?

But now, this seems to be a full-on trend with whole brands being built just on it like Jeffree Star’s new collection, Pretty Zombie Cosmetics and I’m sure others I just haven’t caught up with just yet.

So just what is liquid lipstick anyways? Click after the jump to find out!
