Review+Swatches - Chanel Notes de Printemps Lippies

In continuing to look at CHANEL’s most recent makeup collection, Collection Notes de Printemps, we come to the lips and the glosses and lipsticks in it. I seem to have a lot of posts about lippies these days! Not sure why I am heavy in that category but I guess that’s my thing these days. So onward …

5 Favorite Radiant Orchid Products

I'm starting a new on-going feature called "5 Favorite ... " where I list my 5 current favorite products in a particular category. So this week, I've chosen Pantone's Color of the Year, Radiant Orchid.

It’s almost like they picked it just because it’s such a great color when it comes to makeup! Here are my favorites when it comes to this color. Are you wearing any radiant orchid these days on your features?

THE BODY SHOP Bunch of Violets Shimmer Cubes Palette #23 ($22 @ – this quad is great for creating an overall orchid-colored eye look. The cube shades are: Orchid Purple, Candy Pink, Pearly White and Velvet Plum. Use wet or dry and apply with brush or your finger and blend, blend, blend.

MARC JACOBS BEAUTY Shameless Bold Blush in #212 Outspoken ($30 @ – blend in  this surprisingly workable shade on cheeks. So unexpectedly fun.

DOLCE & GABBANA The Nail Lacquer in Passione ($24 @ – along with the Beauty Addicts, this one is a spot on perfect shade of the trending color. Gorg!

BEAUTY ADDICTS Lip Addiction in Seduce Fierce ($17 @ – I think this shade perfectly describes the shade. The coverage is sheer to medium depending how much you apply.

KANEBO Sensai Rouge Everlasting Colour in #115 Iwatsutsuji ($40 @ – this one is just a smidge more purple so if you want your trending shade more on that side, this would be a good one to try. And these lippies are really smooth and last quite a few hours.

I feel like they are Pulling a MAC on us (definition of Pulling a MAC - coming out with a lot of products at one time).

So let’s look at a few I received for review …

A Chanel Glossimer that Goes with Everything!

I’m not too big on lip gloss but I do turn to if for its effects of wet-looking lips, especially if I’m going focusing my look on the eyes. But I must say this CHANEL Brillant Extreme Glossimer in #171 Ocean Shimmer ($29.50 @ is becoming a staple for a subtle kick. It’s a clear gloss with bits of high shimmer pink glitter that you can see but can’t feel. Now that’s a huge plus! I mean, who wants to rub their lips together and feel bits of … well, stuff against them.

I took these photos out in the sunlight so you could see the effect of the product in the tube. I tried to take pics of swatches on my arm and on lips and couldn’t get a good one, so you’ll have to take my word for it as I’m filing this one under, seeing is believing.

Review+Swatches - Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Fragmented Alice Collection

OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE COSMETICS (or OCC) just came out with a collection inspired by Gail Potocki’s Fragmented Alice paintings. In her pieces, Potocki twists the Alice in Wonderland characters into haunting interpretations you never saw in your books growing up or even imagined in your mind. If you did, they probably would have scared you!

If you attended the San Diego Comic Con, you probably saw some of her paintings and OCC debuted the Fragmented Lip Tar there too.

Going by the name Fragmented Alice, the collection is:

Lip Tar: Metallic + Stained Goss ($18) in Fragments (acid-green, gold-laced metallic)

Loose Colour Concentrates ($14) in Curved Sky (ice white/iridescent blue-violet, Infliction (patinaed pink opal) and Nevar (dirty golden olive).

Nail Lacquer ($10) in Gryphon (cement grey, opaque satin) and Severed (bright crimson, satin opaque)

The Artist named each of the new colors so let’s see more pictures after the jump!

Scared of Red? This Might Help Your Fear!

True story – I was listening to Howard yesterday and happened to tuned in when he was talking about Van Halen’s 'Hot for Teacher' and exclaiming the song was a game changer. A game changer in rock because of the complexity and intenseness of the song. While I agree that the song totally gets me amp’d and is one of their best, I’m not sure it’s a total game changer, which brings me to this lippie from BARE ESCENTUALS that was sent to me in its own mailer, so it must be important. Oh and the name? Game Changer!

The color in this Marvelous Moxie Lip Gloss ($18) tube looks red, I mean RED RED, so I thought what I saw is what I would get but backing up to what these Moxie lippies are really like, read my previous post about them first.

Bare-Escentuals-Marvelous-Moxie-Lip-Gloss-in-Game-Changer-wandSo you see, it’s not a big red but rather gives a sheer-to-medium coverage to lips and wears for quite a few hours. So if you have reservations about wearing red, this would be a good one to give a spin. And these have a great application wand and a slight minty smell and feel to them.

This shade also comes in the Marvelous Moxie Lipliner and the Marvelous Moxie Lipstick.
