Honey, Honey

I have been a long time fan of HONEY. It never spoils, it’s sweeter than sugar, and it’s packed with vitamins and antioxidants. According the wikipedia, it’s the only food that includes all the substances necessary to sustain life, including water. Amazing! I really think this ingredient is highly overlooked when it comes to using it in beauty products as it proven to be able to attract and absorb moisture. So here’s out first of a four-part series on HONEY and beauty products that get it:

Know What You're Using

Here’s a first -- ORiGiNS is the first prestige line of hair and body products to put out a collection certified organic by the USDA National Organic Program. Each of the 9 products in the Origins Organics line declares how much of the product’s ingredients are organic, so for the most part, you know what you are getting. Hair and body never had it so good and I think this will be a trend for 2008. So choose from the Foaming Face Wash ($25/3.4oz) or the Cleansing Body Bar ($15/3.4oz) or some others. My other favorite has to be the Soothing Lip Balm ($15/.5oz). It’s 97% organic, fixes my dry lips and has a nice vanilla scent. All @ origins.com

One Last Holiday Reminder

My house is still the epitome of festive right now - Poinsettas in every room, my ScentPort in spicy Clove Buds plugged in the outlets and I am now adding BATH DESSERTS’ Lip Butter in Peppermint ($5 @ bath-desserts.com) on my lips. Hemp seed butter and peppermint essential oil sooth my lips and entice my nose. I’ll keep this one for the coming months but the tree has got to go next week.

The Devil And Everyone Else ... Wear Prada!

These thumb-sized balms may not look like much but I’m a convert. These PRADA Shielding Balms SPF 15 Lip/Tint ($38/10 size .05 tubes @ neimanmarcus.com) are smoothest lippies I have ever tried and they really stay put! I should have known that if a big fashion house was going to get into this category, they would only do it if they could do it right. No wonder all the mags have raved about these. Big recommendation. 

Old Faithful

BLiSTEX has come a long way from the glass pot with the yellow top that I remember (was that Blistex or Carmex? I can't remember but it was a good one). New to the line is their Lip Infusion Sheer Liquid Balm ($2.89 @ drugstore.com). It has all the lip benefiting ingredients you should come to expect: SPF 15, deeply penetrating and this one has no waxy feel to it. What I really like in addition to the minty smell is the roller ball tip that applies just enough of the formula evenly on lips.

French Lippies

Beauty products are getting more and more multi-tasking. Take this next new one from BOURJOiS. It looks like a lip gloss and contains the benefits of a lip balm and comes in six colors like a lipstick. So what it is? It’s in between a gloss (coverage) a balm (skin benefits) and a lipstick (again, coverage) All that in a squeeze tube. La Crème des Levres ($14 @ sephora.com) is six non-sticky shades o’ … stuff that mixes in Macadamia Oil and Sweet Almond Oil. So you get a good quality gloss with beneficial lip ingredients. I’ll buy that.

Don't Give Me Any Lip

Any dry lip, that is. There is no excuse for having lips that are dry and chapped with all the great choices out there for soothing lip balms out there. Here are a few of my favorites:

SONiA KASHUK Lip Balm SPF 15 ($6 @ Target stores nationwide) comes in a little pot and while I prefer sticks, I actually don't mind dipping my finger into this one as I rub the excess on the back of my hands to get the added protection from the SPF this one has. ~Lisa

From the ESTEE LAUDER line is their Tender Lip Balm SPF 15. Available in six sheer shades, each contains ingredients to soothe and condition lips plus protect them from the sun. This fabulous formula also claims to improve moisture level and reduces flaking in four weeks. I’ve been wearing Tender Caramel and Tender Plum, depending on the day, but check out the whole collection because each will allow you to have a sexy protected pucker all summer long. $14 @ esteelauder.com ~Randi

Sun-Sational Sunscreen

I know that Cybelesays is all about beauty and nothing else but to roll out a new summer feature, we just had to relay some startling info. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, skin cancer it is the most common form of the disease in the United States. After reading all the statisitcs, the one that I will remember and leave you to think about is the following from the National Cancer Institute -- “1 in 59 men and women will be diagnosed with melanoma during their lifetime.” Onto the new summer feature …

BOBBI BROWN has just added a new cateogry to her line - Tinted Lip Balms. Available in eight lip smacking shades, I’ve been wearing Citrus, an icy cool coral, and Pink Popsicle, a sheer pink-red depending on my mood of the day. But check all of them out if you are looking for a balm that provides long-lasting sheer color with marvelous moisture. Mint Lips Sink Ships

I hate to be a bandwagon jumper but the C.O. BiGELOW Mentha Lip Shine ($5 @ bathandbodyworks.com) IS the best three-in-one moisturizer on the market. Normally I’m not jazzed about products for my lips that have mint in them but this one has just a touch so it doesn’t irritate at all and it's quite soothing. Welcome to the Hall of Fame!

Quick Lip Fixes

BOURJOiS knows that our facial features are not always makeup ready. Here are two new ones that will keep your pucker in prime kissing shape.

I don’t think there is one night that goes by where I don’t apply some kind of lip moisturizer before bed. Now there’s one made just for that. Baume de Nuit Night Lip Balm in Rose Nacre ($10) contains nourishing oils and repair agents to get lips back in a presentable state … and ready for any lipstick or gloss. And it’s even slightly tinted so know I’ll look fab in my dreams.

There’s something so relaxing about ViCTORIA’S SECRET Beauty Rush Soothing Lip Balm (3 tins/$15 @ victoriassecret.com). Could it be the non-irritating peppermint oil? The Aloe vera? Or the thickness of the balm? All of the above and I love it.

A Little Color, A Little Protection

There are days when we are just looking for protection and a hint of color. And I love that companies are listening to what we women really need as there are quite a few products catering to just this now.
