I’ve just been living in a liquid lipstick vortex for the past few months but trying out these TARTE COSMETICS Drench Lip Splash Lipsticks ($22/2.4g @ tartecosmetics.com and sephora.com) really brought me down to earth, and nicely I might add. They’re part of the Rainforest of the Sea Collection, which recently came out.

Ok, we’re hit another trend wave in the category of liquid lipsticks and this one is different finishes and in this case it’s metallic and glitter.
I was at The Makeup Show a few weeks ago (a haul post is coming soon, I promise!) and CAILYN COSMETICS was there with their latest. I bought the Star Wave Glitter Tint in Scorpio and their Star Wave Mattalic Tint in Cassiopeia.
I was really looking forward to try these out. So how did they perform? Click the link after the pictures!
Seems like every brand is jumping on the matte lip trend and I’m not complaining one bit! In fact, I’m quite obsessed. The latest is from NUDESTIX with their Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Pencil shown here in Kiss, a just kissed rude nude.
The new Tarteist Lip Paints ($20 @ beauty.com) are TARTE’s answer to the current liquid lipstick trend. 10 shades wear the name and are part of the Spring 2016 Collection coming out in January. I know, Spring-talk already!!
Each mint smelling formula is not like your average liquid lipstick in that these don’t have that serious dry down. They are more like these. Yes, the super matte ones last on lips for hours but can be drying after a few. These don’t dry lips out and don’t have that long-ass commitment either, not that I dislike the super mattes; there’s certainly a time and place for both formulas on this earth.
Sometimes it’s hard to keep my makeup products straight. Take these VELVET 59 to the max Liquid Lipsticks ($20 @ velvet59.com), for example. I should have reviewed and swatched these a few months ago and misplaced them. But better late than never!
You may have remembered my review of their other lippies here and I was tre-excited to experience these babies!
In order to get a good feel for any liquid liquids, I like to try the red, my favorite lippie color by far, and then one of the more neutral colors because even though it’s the same product, colors can make a products performance vary from color to color.
It’s no secret that I have a great love of liquid lipsticks (for this post I will call them LL) and as I mentioned here, and I’m seeing different formulas emerge and I continue to explore this category. Of course I was super curious about the Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks from NYX COSMETICS ($7 @ amazon.com) I heard about a few months ago. They’ve been selling out everywhere (I checked Ulta 3 times) and couldn’t seem to get my hands on any until their PR people sent me 3 to try, so thank you!
As the name states, these Liquid Suedes are not straight-up LL’s. The formula is a little thicker and not as drying, more like these from Laura Mercier. So while I like each formula as each has their pluses and minuses, it comes down to how well they performed.
I’ve really put the lip glosses down in place of the lipsticks in the past few years but these Vamplify lip glosses from MAC might be changing my mind. They infuse a new colour-boosting technology where I don’t think any gloss can touch it when it comes to color saturation! There are 17 shades available and I didn’t have to apply layer after layer after layer of gloss just to get a hint of color.
Even though the category of liquid lipstick is still relatively new on the scene, there seems to be two different kinds that I’ve experienced - those that dry down on the lips and *BAM*, they don't move. These ones seem to be the most matte and drying but do last the longest, with some up to 12 hours. You can pretty much eat and drink anything without having to worry about your lip color coming off, unless what you're eat contains oils. And then there are those that are a tad more moisturizing than the aforementioned thus making them a tad more transferable. These seem to last about 4 to 5 hours but overall feel better on the lips.
The latter is what the latest from CIATE LONDON fall into with their Liquid Velvet Matte Lip Slicks ($19 @ sephora.com) I was surprised when I read about these as I thought the brand was just about nails and would pretty much always be about nails but it’s great to see this new direction!
These contain Hyaluronic Acid and their own blend ingredient called PlushPigment, which helps with the staying power and moisturizing feel on the lips.

Have you heard of the VELVET 59 line yet? I’m not sure if the line is called Velvet 59 by Paris Manning or just Velvet 59. Anyway, the creator is a 22 year-old world traveler that grew up around cosmetics her whole life and looked up to the classic beauties of yesteryear and wanted to create a brand that captured that glamour but with a modern twist. All the products are vegan and cruelty-free and she uses some really unique ingredients in some of them.
Choose from lipsticks, liquid lipsticks, an eye shadow palette, contour palette and lip glosses.
First up, The Malibu Sunset Lipstick Collection. These creamy lipsticks in the metallic rose gold cases lasted about 4 to 5 hours on lips and each gave off a matte velvet finish. The four shades are totally wearable for a lot of skin tones. See anything you like?
The Matte Lip – For those who prefer timeless glamour rather than all-out flash, the sophisticated allure of matte reigns supreme. Now, MAC expands its offering of this classic suede-like finish with 12 new shades of Matte and Retro Matte Lipstick. These lipsticks promise a pop of colour that will linger on your lips with impressive staying power.
