Fall Product Standouts – Hair

Falll-2011-Beauty-Pick-logo

Fall-2011-Hair-Product-Picks My hair is all over the place right now; this in-between season always seems to wreak havoc on my strands. Does it need more moisture? Maybe not use the blow dryer so often? I’m not really sure but these below three seem to be helping me keep is steady Freddie until the cold comes on.

NEXXUS Color Assure Radiant Color Care Leave-in Conditioning Spray ($14.99/10.1oz @ Walmart stores nationwide) – I’ve learned the hard way that not all leave-in conditioners are created equal. This one uses grapefruit extract, coconut oil, and honey extract to add extra moisture to strands to keep hair color longer.

PUREOLOGY ColorStylists Antibreakage Twist ($24/2.5oz @ pureology.com for salons nationwide) – one of two new products just added to their ColourStylist line, this paste provide a mild hold and texture and totally safe for color-treated strands.

DAVINES OI/OIL ($39/4.56oz @ davines.com for salon locations) – I’m a huge fan of hair oils and this one seems like the next generation of them. It’s pretty light and its main oil comes from a beta-carotene and antioxidant-rich Roucou Oil.

Not Your Mother's Hair Texturizer

Not-Your-Mother's-Beach-Babe-Texturizing-Sea-Salt-Spray-2 There are only a few things in this world that are like nails down a chalkboard for me – nails down a chalkboard (ha!), walking barefoot on dry dirt and the feel of my hair after spraying it with a salt spray. Why? No idea. It just feels so dry but I love the look so I put up with it. The things we do for beauty, right?

With the changing of the season comes the feeling that for an updated look, no? So have you tried one of these beach sprays before? No, you don’t have to use them just in the summer. I recently tried NOT YOUR MOTHER’S Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray ($6/8oz @ customnails.com). The sea salt and sea kelp, called Macrocystis Pyrifera Extract in the ingredient list, will give your locks tousled waves that make it look like you didn’t even try! Tré sexy. Use it on wet or dry hair and hopefully the texture isn’t like fingers down a chalkboard to you!

This product contains Benzyl Alcohol, which is seen by some as an ingredient of concern. Read more here. Read my ingredient disclaimer here.

Gimme Volume...Gimme Texture...Gimme Pump IT!

Pump-IT Tired of hearing about Snooki and her darn Bumpit? I don’t even think she uses the plastic piece so maybe she should try this new PUMP IT. It’s the latest in voluminzers and the powder is reminiscent of one of those dry shampoos but it doesn’t spray out of an aerosol can (now that’s eco). It comes in a 2oz shaker tin can and all you do is shake-shake some on where you want some va-va-volume and texture, rub it in with your hand and voila. And they claim that results can last up to five days. Yowza! $20.95/2oz @ pumpit.us.

Does Redken's Aerate 08 Give Volume?

Redken-Aerate-08-shot-2 Do you think we’re at the height of high hair on the runways or on the streets? According to REDKEN, we’re not even close cuz here comes their Aerate 08 Bodifying Cream-Mousse ($16/2.3oz @ redken.com for salons) and I’m sure this will be a popular one at NYFW kicking off today (it came out last fall but I just missed it until now). Like the Prius, it’s a hybrid of frothy mousse and conditioning cream that will give hair the ultimate boost in volume. Work a small amount of the patented formula through towel dried hair and then blow dry. The aerated cream uses cellulose to plump the hair up and build body and texture and it’s ok for those of us who color our strands. Love it!

Give Hair Texture & Bigness With Sebastian Professional

I knew I was onto something when my neighbor came down her stairs as I was walking to my garage for a night out on the town and said, “Wow, I really like your hair!” I hadn’t done anything drastically different other than give my long locks some texture. I guess I have been on the smooth/lazy bandwagon too long and not so much big or piecey, like it was that night. Meow!

Since I just had the Brazilian Keratin Treatment done to my hair again recently, the only thing I can do these days is texturize it, which is fine by me.
So what did I have in my hair? One of the products from SEBASTIAN’s new Texture Collection. Think of them like a car with each one performance driven and these are made for those with long hair, yeah!

It’s made up of three products:

  • Microweb Fiber: Elastic Texturizer ($18.95/1.5oz) – inspired by the flexibility, invisibility and invincibility of a spider’s web. Gives hair flexibility and a soft texture.
  • Texturizer: Flexible Bodifying Liquigel ($15.95/5.1oz) – a medium hold gel that gives straight hair some pieciness and curly hair definition.
  • Matte Putty: Soft-dry Texturizer ($16.95/2.6oz) – provides a matte finish. Use to create a piecy look.

Get them @ sebastianprofessional.com to find a salon near you.

Prescription for Big Hair

It’s no secret that big hair is back and Texas style bouffants are not easy to do. That’s probably why women went to the salons years ago and tied the style up with a wrap when they went to bed to make it last all week. Does anyone do that anymore? Here’s a few to help you get big.

Sebastian-Charles-Worthington-Wildaid

CHARLES WORTHiNGTON Texturizing Salt Spray ($5.99/8oz @ ulta.com) helps bring out those wavy strands and give strands something to lean against for texture. Let’s get big!

Some say that if you target the roots, you’ll achieve the best big hair. SEBASTIAN new Whipped Crème ($19/5.3oz @ salons only) looks more like whipped cream that you eat instead of mousse you put into your hair. Let’s get loud tousled hair!

DAVID BABAII FOR WILDAID Bohemian Beach Spray ($11.95/6.6oz @ drugstore.com) will give your strands a little extra volume without the use of sulfates, parabens or petrochemicals. Let’s get natural, baby!
