Hamadi Reacts To Frizzies Or Rather Doesn't

Hamadiuse_4You’ll want to spritz on some HAMADI Shea Spray ($18/4oz @ amazon.com) before aiming that hair dryer at your hair if you want to keep hair from frizzing up. It may not be the right time of year to be even using a hot hair dryer but crank the AC, eeek how wasteful, spray this on and then use your dryer. And this formula has all things good for it inside – Rosewood, Ylang Ylang, Clary Sage, and Shea Butter among others so it nourishes, protects and really keeps the frizzies away.

The Hamadi company overall is pretty amazing in that they use 100% organic essential oils and plant extracts, don’t use any artificial ingredients, perfumes, or colors. Don’t you wish all lines took this kind of stance?

Hands Free Hair Styling With Blo & Go

BlogoFile this one under, where was this when I was a teen? Now that I’m in my thirties, I have built up my arm muscles something fierce. Ok, not big or anything but I have toned some key ones - my blowing drying muscles. All us women have them and honed them many years ago while becoming a woman. So when I first laid eyes on this BLO & GO ($29.99 @ bloandgo.com), I sorta felt duped. Here's a way to blow dry the hair using both hands. Now there’s a concept! To use the Blo & Go, just adhere the base with the suction to a mirror. Then, bungee strap your own blow dryer into the other end, turn it on and you’re good to go. It will take some getting used to but it’s worth it to be able to use both hands, especially when you are trying to get a section of hair to do what you want it to do. Not always possible when you can only use one hand.

You Better Work!

WhitesandshairsprayRuPaul should be the spokesperson for the new Stuck-Up ($24-$26/10oz @ salons nationwide) from WHiTE SANDS. This mega-hold hairspray really … holds but it’s another one of those that you should consider reaching for when styling. Like their other revolutionary hairsprays, it can be used on wet or dry hair and combed out with no leftover residue or stiffness. And what about using it with hot tools like a curling iron or straight iron? It not only helps you make the most perfect curl but it makes the strands really shiny. Fun! I’ve been trying different styles out with this spray – from really straight to more natural looking loose waves, and this really helps you achieve the many different looks I go for on a weekly basis. Big recommendation.

Help A Hair, Will You?

I’m pretty set with what I like when it comes to shampoo and conditioner but I’m always open to trying new styling products. One of these days I want to go really short so I can take advantage of using pomades etc not just on my ends. Here are three worth your dime.

Hairstylers2

ECRU new Silk Texturizing Balm ($32.50/1.69oz @ ecrunewyork.com)

  • Lightweight and super piece-y hold
  • Made to work in any weather
  • Not a pomade or wax so won’t weigh hair down

PROSiLK Serum ($19.95/6oz @ prosilkprod.com)

  • Protects against heat styling products
  • No build up
  • Really tamed my frizzes before blowdrying

SHU UEMURA Liquid Fabric Mineral Texture Spray ($30/8.5oz @ shuuemura.com)

  • To help maintain waves or curls
  • Contains sea minerals
  • Cool looking spray bottle (common, you know you think so too!)

Would Amy Winehouse Be Down With This Kim Vo Spray?

Kimvo2_2As I comb through the KiM VO hair care line (ha!), the more products I try, the more I like what I feel, or rather, don’t feel. His Weightless Hairspray ($26/10oz @ kimvo.com) falls into the category of workable hairsprays alongside Elnett and the new Bumble and Bumble one. Yes, in times past, hairspray was just meant to hold and that’s it, but now it seems more companies are putting ones out that are made more for styling. Probably 90% of us finish our hairstyle off with a shot or spray of hair spray. Well at least we think we’re done, when no, that doesn’t look right. Redo!! Senor Vo’s Weightless Hairspray allows for that change of doo without making the hair sticky or look like it has product in it. And running a comb or brush through it? Not a prob. And don’t think this spray has a wimpy hold as this one can go up there against the strong ones.

Work It, Girl, With Bumble and Bumble

BumbleI’m a little skeptical when a brand does a huge launch because either I am usually very happy or loathe it and there is usually no middle ground. BUMBLE AND BUMBLE’s new Spray de Mode ($15/4oz, $25/10oz @ spraydemode.com) for sure goes under the list of greats. Not since this one have I come across a hair spray that is so workable. It holds, keeps the frizz at bay yet still lets a woman change her mind and comb it out easily. And they didn’t even test this spray on models! They used real people found on myspace. Nice marketing concept.

Styling Made Easy

I swear I'm hair product challenged. Even when I make an effort to use the smallest amount of something, it ends up being too much and then I have greasy spots on my head. When I find a product I like and learn how to use it, in my head, I’m onto the next one to conquer my next hair concern. I feel that since I have this one product down, I assume the best for every hair product I come across. This works for about 1 out of every 50 and remember this is styling products. Shampoos and conditioners I am pretty good at choosing. Some of these hair styling products should be by prescription only, but then again I guess they are since some of them are only sold in solons. I gotta find me a class or something – hair styling 101.

Like when it comes to makeup, the tools you use to style your hair to get the right “application” are just as important as the above products you put it in. So bless their little hearts over at SPORNETTE. They make it so even the hair novice like me can style their hair somewhat presentable. I am really into their collection of Pronto Hair Brushes ($10.99-$12.99/1 ½” to 3” barrels @ folica.com) right now. Here are the features:

  • barrel is concave so the hair stays on the brush
  • barrel is ceramic so hair dries fast
  • bristles are Tourmaline and Nano Silver

Spornette_2

What I also like about these brushes is that the bristles are spaced further apart than a boars hairbrush. It is so much easier for me to grab a section of hair and wrap it around the brush whilst drying it. If I can’t seem to always figure out the styling products, at least I can get the tool part down.
