Hair Products to Help the Transition

The season once again is on deck to change! Will you be updating your hair styling products and tools? Here are a few to get you at least thinking about it.

Nexxus-Bumble-and-Bumble-Redken-Spornette-Sephora-hair-care-brushes NEXXUS Maxximum Super Hold Styling and Finishing Mist ($10.55/10oz @ nexxus.com) – transitioning from one season to another can wreak havoc on strands. They don’t know what to do! This one will keep strays and flyaways at bay.

REDKEN Guts 10 Volume Spray Foam ($6.99/2oz @ redken.com) – we have all seen that big hair is coming back in a big way. And where does big hair start? The roots of course! This foam will boost strands to get them standing at attention.

BUMBLE AND BUMBLE Mending Masque ($37/5oz @ bumbleandbumble.com) – let’s face it, if your hair is ratty and out of shape, nothing you try is going to help so make sure you get it back in line with a good hair mask like this one.

A change in the season means a change in my hair brush. After all, the materials that style and go though your hair have a life span as well. And they don’t have to look all boring and functional anymore. Take these two for example. This SPORNETTE Hypnotique #5902 Purple Paddle Brush ($26.95 @ spornette.com) combines nylon and 100% boars bristles and is a great staple everyday brush while SEPHORA’s Bamboo Boar Brush ($12 @ sephora.com) has a ceramic-coated barrel and, as the name states, all boar hair bristles. And the thinness of it makes it easy for wielding.

Here we are at the end of our on-going Spring Color Picks feature. So have you added any of the suggestions like Coral, Turquoise, Tuscany, Violet or Tomato Puree to your makeup routine? Here are some more recs for Tomato and Turq. What’s great about turquoise is that sometimes it’s on the green side and sometimes more on the blue side. The two nail polishes here really depict that.

Styling with Color Edge Hairspray

Color-Edge-Hairspray Whenever I reach to my row of hairsprays (yes, I have a row of them on a shelf in the bathroom!), it seems like almost all of the finishing sprays in my line up leave a crinkly feeling behind. That stiff, no movement-type of result. Sometimes this is ok but most of the time, no thanks. This COLOR EDGE Hairspray (yes, it has a very unique name), gives the same hold as some of the ones I am used to but doesn’t leave a crust of clear shellac in its wake. So the hair stays but not in strict formation! Maybe it’s the combination of the wheat proteins and fatty acids in the formula that make it so darn workable. $16/9oz @ trycoloredge.com or 888-828-5278.

A New Addition to the Hall of Fame - White Sands

White-Sands-Stuck-Up-styling-spray Trophy Do you ever really find a product you like and use it, have fun, etc, and then forget about it? This video (thanks rosebud143!) reminded me of the WHITE SANDS line and this product that I wrote about a while ago. Since my hair is really getting long (well past my shoulders now), I’m able to curl it and go for the loose waves look more often and so I’ve been revisiting their Stuck-Up Mega Hold Styling Spray and I feel like I am discovering it for the first time! And I have not found one to do the same thing since. Imagine being able to apply your spray to your hair before applying the heat from a flat iron or curling iron. Such hold and it helps your curls last longer than they normally would and without looking crunchy.

I have two things going on with Stuck-Up – first is I am adding to the Hall of Fame – yes, it’s that good.

And second is, I have 10 cans to giveaway to you so enter below and good luck!

New Hair Care Line - Lea Journo!

Lea-Journo-Hydrating-Shampoo You've always depended on us to bring you the best and latest products and here's one for hair product lovers. Famous LA hair stylist and salon owner LEA JOURNO has catered to many celebs’ heads of hair and now she’s put out a full product line. And how refreshing are the colors and eco packaging? All the products are sulfate and paraben free and the packaging? The flex pouches that the shampoo and conditioner come in use 85% less materials that standard packaging. Wow.

There’s a Hydrating Shampoo ($24/10oz), Hydrating Conditioner ($24/10oz), Volumizing Spray ($28/8oz) Illuminating Moisturizer for Hair & Body ($32/8oz), Glossing Cream ($28/5oz), Styling Lotion ($28/5oz), Intense Hydrating Masque ($45/6.7oz), French Plum Oil ($65/1oz) and even a Glam Bag and Travel Kit.

So how do the products perform? Each has some star ingredients like Sweet Almond Peptides in the Shampoo and real Tahitian Vanilla in the Illuminating Moisturizer. While I have not tried every product just yet, my favorites so far are the Glossing Cream and Intense Hydrating Masque (this one is a total keeper). Check out more about this line @ leajourno.com.

A Spray That Stays

Many moons ago, I thought all hairsprays were the same. Wrong! I’ve come across some icky ones that not only left residue behind but either faded quickly or worked too well at holding. Here’s a few that get high marks from us. From L to R:

Hair-sprays

  • SEBASTIAN Shaper Zero Gravity ($11.95/10.6oz @ salons only)
  • WHITE SANDS Infinity Finishing Spray ($21/10oz @ whitesandsproducts.com)
  • KEN PAVES Shaping Finishing Spray ($24/9.7oz @ beauty.com)
  • SUDZZ FX Airplay ($18.98/10oz @ sudzzfx.com)

You Better Work!

WhitesandshairsprayRuPaul should be the spokesperson for the new Stuck-Up ($24-$26/10oz @ salons nationwide) from WHITE SANDS. This mega-hold hairspray really … holds but it’s another one of those that you should consider reaching for when styling. Like their other revolutionary hairsprays, it can be used on wet or dry hair and combed out with no leftover residue or stiffness. And what about using it with hot tools like a curling iron or straight iron? It not only helps you make the most perfect curl but it makes the strands really shiny. Fun! I’ve been trying different styles out with this spray – from really straight to more natural looking loose waves, and this really helps you achieve the many different looks I go for on a weekly basis. Big recommendation.

Would Amy Winehouse Be Down With This Kim Vo Spray?

Kimvo2_2As I comb through the KIM VO hair care line (ha!), the more products I try, the more I like what I feel, or rather, don’t feel. His Weightless Hairspray ($26/10oz @ kimvo.com) falls into the category of workable hairsprays alongside Elnett and the new Bumble and Bumble one. Yes, in times past, hairspray was just meant to hold and that’s it, but now it seems more companies are putting ones out that are made more for styling. Probably 90% of us finish our hairstyle off with a shot or spray of hair spray. Well at least we think we’re done, when no, that doesn’t look right. Redo!! Senor Vo’s Weightless Hairspray allows for that change of doo without making the hair sticky or look like it has product in it. And running a comb or brush through it? Not a prob. And don’t think this spray has a wimpy hold as this one can go up there against the strong ones.
