Major Hair Technology from KeratinPerfect & Gloss Moderne

Ok, you get your ubber-expensive Brazilian Blowout or whatever your salon is calling the Keratin hair treatments these days and now what? How do you keep the super-straightness of it for as long as possible? Yes, sulfate-free is now your main business but two new companies have not made it their business to help you keep it straight for as long as possible too.

KERATIN PERFECT – Exclusive to Sephora, this line contains:
PerfectCleanse Keratin Enhanced Shampoo ($24/8.5oz)
PerfectSilk Keratin Enhanced Conditioner ($24/8.5oz)
PerfectRenew Daily Keratin Replenishing Spray ($34/6.7oz)
PerfectRescue Intense Keratin Repair Serum ($40/1.7oz)
PerfectShine Keratin Oil ($40/1.7oz).

This line uses a very tech-forward process called ReBonding Techology, which penetrates the hair to repair any weak Keratin bonds and keeps strands frizz-free and manageable. The Repair Serum has been my go-to for the past few weeks and I really feel this one fills in the nooks and crannies as my straightening treatment slowly washes away. Get them @ sephora.com.

GLOSS-Moderne-and-Keratin-Perfect-products GLOSS MODERNE - Line contains:
High-Gloss Shampoo ($27.50/8oz)
High-Gloss Conditioner ($28.50/8oz)
High-Gloss-Serum ($26/4oz)
High-Gloss Masque ($32/4oz) and you can purchase all four products for $114.

Their products contain Keratin, panthenol and botanicals like coconut and passion fruit extract among others to help keep hair 180 degrees from frizzy. And these have a Coco de Soleil scent to them, which is a blend of coconut, almond and rum and was created in a fragrance house just for these products. Nice. Get them @ glossmoderne.com.

Does Nexxus ProMend Kit Really Work?

Kristin-Merkling I sometimes don’t feel quite qualified to speak about a product and this is the case with this next one from NEXXUS. It’s their ProMend Kit that is supposed to actually repair split ends. Impossible, I thought so I decided to bring the products to my trusty hair and makeup artist extraordinaire Kristin Merkling (HairbyKristin.com). She’s seen it all and could really give these a good run.

The Latest In Hair Styling Products

Pureology-LivingProof-IT&LY PUREOLOGY just put out their Colour Stylist line, which are styling products for color-treated hair. Seems like there should be more of these available for the average person, right? Each of the 6 products contains their patented AntiFade Complex with Keravis, which is a hair fortifier to protect the hair from breaking and they each smell like their signature vanilla, rose and Mandarin Orange scent. Mmm. Product pick – Colour Stylist FortifyingHeatSpray - $22/6oz @ pureology.com.

LIVING PROOF just came out with a new Full line of products aimed at, well, exactly what you think, fuller hair!  And the Root Lifting Spray from the latest collection, called Full, is really rocking my hair right now and giving me some lift just where you think. Maybe it’s the PolyfluoroEster ingredient inside because I’ve tried a few root lifting sprays and they’ve only been ok but this one? I give it two thumbs up – it not only makes the hair strong but it also lasts in the hair. $24/5.5oz @ livingproof.com.

The IT&LY HAIRFASHION line is a new one to the site and was used on the set of Sex and the City 2 and Gossip Girl, so you know it must come with some hipness to it. I don’t use many of those shine serums as they seem to just make my hair greasy but their Purity Design Pure Water Drops don’t seem to grease up my strands than polish them and make them a tad piece-y and it smells like sandalwood. Nice touch. $32.49/1.7oz @ haircarechoices.com.

Is This White Sands Smarter than the Average Oil?

White-Sands-Orchids-Oil-for-hair I’m totally into the hair oils these days like this one and here’s another one taking up space in my bathroom. They’re so great for so many different things when it comes to the hair like taming frizzies and fly-away strands, restoring moisture, enhancing color, protecting hair from free radicals or just smoothing  it the hair after styling. This latest one is WHITE SANDS Orchids Oil ($20/3oz @ whitesandsproducts.com) and they tout it as especially beneficial for those with course and curly hair.

And check out all four ingredients: Cyclomethicone (a silicone), Dimethiconol (used in a lot of hair care products to impart shine), Bulbophyllum SP. (the largest group of the orchid family), and fragrance. That’s it! What’s also interesting is the way it smells. It smells like the name says, like an orchid but I guess this particular strain or orchid, Bulbophyllum SP smells pretty bad, so they add a synthetic fragrance, which is fine since it’s the ingredients I’m after in the first place.

Pureology Puts Out Another Winning Collection

Out this month is a new collection from one of my favorite all time hair brands, PUREOLOGY. The SuperSmooth products are made with a new heat-protective ThermalAntiFadeComplex (they sure love to run their words together!!) and as far as I’m concerned, this is the brand that perfected the color support hair products. This collection of four products contains oils of camellia and sesame and organic Shea Butter to not only smooth out and but replenish and strengthen the hair.

And I’m loving that they have branched out into the world of aromatherapy notes by including notes of raspberry, jasmine and chocolate powder in these products. I don’t remember them doing this before part with other collections but they smell fab.

SuperSmooth Shampoo: Cleanse ($27/10.1oz)
SuperSmooth HairCondition: Condition & Detangle
($27/8.5oz)
SuperSmooth SmoothingElixir: Fortify
($24/2.5oz)
SuperSmooth RelaxingHairMasque: Nourish
($50/5.1oz)

Bring Chris McMillan Home To Meet the Parents

If you read the weeklies then you are very familiar with the name CHRIS McMILLAN and the way he cuts  Jennifer Aniston’s hair. He’s a major player when it comes to celebs! I actually used to go to his salon to have my hair did before he was the Chris McMillan. And like most, he has put his knowledge in a product line called,Chris-McMillan-Hair-Glossing-Serum simply enough, Chris McMillan Hair. The line is comprised of five items and the one I tried was the Glossing Serum ($22.95/1oz @ chrismcmillanhair.com) and was I pleasantly surprised. From my experience, just because it has a big name hair dresser name on it, does not always mean a potion is inside. This one contains Sweet Almond Oil and vitamin E and it not only cuts frizz but nourishes too. It claims to increase the hair’s shine by 125%. One, how do you measure something like that and two, that just sounds like it makes it look greasy! I’m such a fan of defrizzers that I can tell a good or bad one by just a few tries and this gets filed over in the good category.

Save Your Strands With ThermaFuse

ThermaFuse-Heatsmart-Serum-Dry-Oil-Treatment It’s been so hot the last few weeks that the last thing I want to do is turn the hair dryer on but I was so curious about THERMAFUSE’s new Heatsmart Serum Dry Oil Treatment ($19/2oz @ thermafuse.com for a salon near you) I just had to. It's a blend of three proven good-for-hair organic oils – Argan, Acai and Flaxseed. Who is this one made for? Those who need a little hair repair and for those with frizzies, which seems to be all of us.

Apply it to dry hair as a hair finisher or as I like to, right before blow drying. The heat really helps the oils do their work and beautifully. And if you are like me and love the smell of products, they infused it with a vanilla musk scent.

Need To Smooth It? Philip B To the Rescue.

Philip-B-Anti-Frizz-Formula-57 The PHILIP B line has always been on the cutting edge of cool with products that give something extra and unique. From their White Truffle Ultra-Rich Shampoo to the Chai Latte Soul & Body Wash, they never put out a boring product! This Anti-Frizz Formula 57 ($35/2oz @ philipb.com) may not have the fancy name but it has pretty much become my go-to defrizzer right now. It contains vitamin E, jojoba, and soybeach oils and not only does this defrizz but it also protects hair from heat products so this is also a 2-in-1.
When I first used this, I applied it after I was done drying my hair to calm my strands down but you can actually use it on towel dry hair too. Try it both ways to see what works best for you!
