Touching Up With Roots Only

I’m a sucker for anything “As Seen on TV,” as I’ve mentioned here before and I think it’s mostly the notion of we-ve-found-a-better-way-to-do-it of it all. And this next one totally falls into that category. It’s called ROOTS ONLY and is for applying at-home hair color to your, well, roots only.

Goody's Got It Going On with their Latest Item

Goody-Double-Wear-Ponytailer-2-in-1I think the coolest thing that was in The Beauty Social beauty event gift bag last weekend had to be the GOODY Double Wear 2-in-1 Ponytail Bracelet. Remember wearing a scrunchie around your wrist throughout the day “just in case” you needed it? Well now you can get a ponytail holder that doubles as  jewelry. Whoever developed these over at Goody deserves a raise!

I can’t seem to find them selling online anywhere so I don’t know how much they are but I’m sure they’re affordable like all of their line.

If you are looking for a headband, they also have Double Wear Headwrap 2-in-1 Necklace. And I love that these come in either gold or silver.

Scunci Really Holds the Hair

Scunci-No-Slip-Grip-Evolution-Jelly-Ponytailers-Colored Can I see a show of hands of how many of you sleep with your hair piled on top of your head every night? I do and I’ve gotten pretty used to my hair all falling out of the ponytail holder upon waking up each morning. But lately I had a vision that there had to be something that would keep it all up there all night … like one of those brown rubber bands. So I made sure to swing by the hair accessories section next time I had to go to CVS. And lo and behold, from the innovators that are SCUNCI, they had something! It’s their No-slip Grip Evolution Jelly Ponytailers and they come in all clear or multi-colored. My only warning would be to carefully take them out as these are still rubber. Otherwise, nice one Scunci! $2.99/14 pack @ CVS stores and amazon.com

Dancing with the Stars Hair Pieces

Yes, I’m a sucker for fake hair pieces, accessories, extensions, the like, but only if they are temporary. I tried the glue in extensions and couldn’t wait to get them out. I’m just not that kind of girl! Anyway, the Dancing with the Stars TV show put out a collection with my favorite Put on Pieces by HAIRUWEAR. I’ve wasted quite a bit of money on all kinds of pieces so I’m pretty picky when it comes to ones now as they have to match almost exactly or they just look funny. I’ve found that sometimes the strands can be toned down from looking to shiney by buffing some talcum powder in them.

Dancing-with-the-Stars-Hair-Collection-from-Put-On-Pieces-by-HairuWear So my main question about this is, did the Dancing with the Stars contestants actually wear some of these pieces during competition? I mean they could have worn the Bango Tango ($22) blunt cut bangs, or the Salsaloosa ($15) hair wrap with contrasting lengths. I just don’t know. They do come in 12 different shades so shades so they could get a match.

My pick from the collection is the Glamarama ($20), soft waves on a clip-in comb. You know the look of your hair when you put it in the French twist and the ends stick out all over the place? That’s the effect you get with this piece. Simply put your own hair into a bun and clip this one in. And the clip that holds onto your own hair is pretty strong but I think it could have been made better if it was made of metal. Maybe I should test it out more by hitting the dance floor! Nah… $20 @ hsn.com.

Who Dini? Bendini!

Scunci-Bendini-Gold There are a few aisles I check out when I hit my local CVS for something. Besides perusing the new makeup section, I also hit up the As Seen on TV aisle and the hair accessories section to see if there are any new additions on the cute side or the technological side and I’d put this next one a little in both categories. The SCUNCI Bendini Clip not only really holds hair firmly in place but it does it beautifully. Just slide the teeth into the hair like any comb, snap it closed and it’s secure! I mean really secure. $3.99 @ scunci.com and CVS stores nationwide.

Choose from different colors, beaded Bendinis and my pick of the bunch, the gold one shown here.

Hair Pizzazz with Hair Flairs

Hair-Flairs Have you seen anyone wearing these HAIR FLAIRS Feathers yet? You probably have. I was in Victoria’s Secret last night up at The Grove and I saw a woman who must have been in her late 40’s wearing them. Now I don’t think that is too old by any means, but when it hits that age group, you have to wonder how big a trend is going to be! I first experienced them at this show and I was able to try some of the feathers in my hair. If you’re not familiar with them, these feather extensions are a real and once in your hair, you can wash, flat-iron, or even curl your hair with them in! And they are reusable.

So how does it work? You use a threading needle to grab a 1/8th section or so of hair, insert the feather/s, insert the micro-link bead, crimp it all closed and voila. And removing is as easy as uncrimping the bead and sliding the feathers out. 8 skinny or wide feathers for $22 and they also sell the crimpers, threading tool and micro-links on their @ hairflairs.com site.

Also check out the hair tinsel and hair crystals they sell!

Goody Shows Us How the Undone Bun Is Done

Goody-Spin-Pin How about this cool hair accessory from GOODY!!?? It’s from their new Simple Styles Collection and they claim the Spin Pin does the work of 20 bobby pins and while I’m not sure how they came up with that random number, I think it’s actually more! And it is super easy to put in. Simply twist your hair into a low bun and tuck the end in. Then spin one pin from the top of the bun and one pin from under the bun being careful not to interlock the pins. The bun you’ll get is not super tight but it really holds all the hair. Comes in Brunette and Blonde. $6 @ goody.com.

Have you tried this yet or the other two accessories in the collection? Do tell in the comments!

Toni Brattin Answers My Hair Volume Woes

I kinda wish I had done more stories on clip ons and hair extensions now that the Good Hair movie is out and there more attention to all things hair. I have to assure you that my fascination with fake hair started many years ago, as many-a-friend can attest to and you can even see one my favorite wigs here (scroll down). Anyway, I’m quite into a few of the TONI BRATTIN hair accessories right now. As I mentioned in this last feature on this topic, I’m convinced that if you are uncomfortable wearing a wig or any other hair pieces, a clip in like the below ones could be your answer. And these ones will give you more volume than you could ever get on your own and without the commitment. And because your own hair is mostly covering it, it looks like your own!

Here are my recommendations from her line that I just don’t think you can go wrong with, price and all:

Topper Hair Extensions Soft Curls Kit ($29.90) – is comprised of (1) 2” wide x 11” in length piece and (4) 1 ½” wide x 9” in length pieces. I’m not sure really how to use the Topper piece yet but I’m still playing with it and I’m sure I’ll find a good place and use!

Toni’s Topper Hair Extensions 5 Piece Filler Kit ($28.50) – is comprised of (6) 1” wide x 11” in length pieces.

Toni-Brattin-Hair-Pieces

 Quick facts about the line:

  • Each style comes in 14 different colors but they regularly run out so put a watch if yours is not in stock right now.
  • Each piece has a clip on the underside that you simple pop open, slide on, and pop closed. Super easy and they really stay on.
  • If you need to clean them, just hand wash with a mild shampoo.

Toni-Brattin-hair-clip And if you don’t like ‘em? HSN has a great return policy on all their items so buy with confidence!

I’m hoping Ms. Toni will come up with a storage system for these pieces though. Since they are synthetic, they can get tangled and  you don’t want to be as rough with them as real hair.

In conclusion: There’s so many different options when it comes to adding hair to your own. Be it synthetic, or real, prices are all over the place. So while real hair is ideal, these do the job nicely to test the waters to see if this is something you could be into. See more about the line only @ hsn.com. And I'm sure I'll be testing out some other hair pieces very soon. I'll keep you posted!
