Gift Pick - Ja'Maal Buster False Eyelash Set

Holiday-2011-Product-PickIt’s no surprise how the category of false eyelashes have taken off. They simply add glamour to any and every look that regular mascara just can’t duplicate. So weather you are a master or a novice, this next item from Lash Guru, JA’MAAL BUSTER, would be a great one to give or receive.

Ja'Maal-Buster-Lash-Duo-with-Applicator-Tool-and-Lash-Adhesive
Yes, this is the second false eyelash recommendation I’ve made in this guide but I really think they’ve come a long way. This Lash Duo with Applicator Tool & Lash Adhesive includes exactly what the name states and comes in three different styles depending on your edginess: Daddy’s Girl, Notice Me, and Second Date. $24.96 @ qvc.com.

Fall 2011 Product Standouts - Part 1

OMG, it is already September 21st and I’m not even half way through featuring all the new fall beauty products so I’m going to stretch this Fall Beauty Pick feature into October. After all, fall is one of my favorite seasons – the colors, the textures and of course the temperatures! Here are some that are singing my tune right now.

Falll-2011-Beauty-Pick-logo
Fall-2011-Product-Picks-first-feature Clockwise left to right:

MAKE UP FOR EVER Smoky Lash in #6 Plum ($22 @ sephora.com) – this one claims to curl and lo and behold, I think it did! A great complement when wearing their Crayon Kohl Pencil in new shade 10k, a deep eggplant sheen.

NYC COLOR In A New York Color Minute Quick Dry Nail Polish in Scenestealer Grey ($1.99 @ drugstores nationwide) – metallic grey is a hot color for fall and it goes with so many different looks.

NAPOLEON PERDIS NP SET False Eye Lashes in Manchester ($10 @ Target or target.com) – if you just want a little emphasis on your eyes, this style will do it subtly. If a strip is too hard for you to maneuver, there’s also Copenhagen, individual lashes.

PACIFICA Island Vanilla Perfume ($22/1oz, $12/roll-on @ pacificaperfume.com) – Tahitian vanilla, vanilla absolute, honey-jasmine and a touch of fruit and tea make up this totally wearable made from pure grain alcohol scent.

POP BEAUTY Face Magnet Primer ($26/1.18oz @ dermstore.com) – this makeup primer not only keeps your makeup on but it has UV protection, caffeine and anti-aging ingredients. Gotta love double triple duty products.

NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner in Rue de Rivoli ($25 @ narscosmetics.com) – this metallic forest green will complement any eye color. Very smooth application and it has a sharpener built in the backend.

CLINIQUE Lipgloss/Lipstick Duo in Black Honey ($21 @ sephora.com) – check out what all the hubbub is about with their cult favorite Black Honey shade. It’s their best seller for a reason and now they have it in a combo Lip Gloss and Lipstick.

Kiss Puts Out an False Eyelash Helper

I participated in a webinar the other day for KISS’s new Premium Eyelashes with Application Strings. Yup, someone has finally created an easier way to make putting false eyelashes on. And it actually works! There is a red string on either side of the lash which you hold in between your fingers. These help in getting the lash to lay exactly right on each lid. And then after the lash glue is dry, just gently pull the strings off and you’re done!

The only two issues with these that I can see - not being able to trim them if the band is too long for your eye (you can’t but they assured us on the webinar they were working on this issue) and the fact that while the lashes can be used a few times, the red string part is a one-time-use-only benefit.

Out of the styles you see here, 7 are made from premium hair and two are synthetic (04 and 06).

Available for $3.99 starting February 1st @ kissusa.com and some styles will be only be available @ Walmart stores.

What's Your Opinion On False Eyelashes?

Robert-Reese-Beauty-False-Eyelashes I got into a huge conversation about false eyelashes over the weekend. We talked about brands, which kind work best (individual vs. strip), colored and price. I’d say the trait that derived the most talk was price. We’ve all seen ones that are priced at a few dollars all the way up to about $25 and even more if you go for those mink ones. Out of the 6 of us, only 2 would pay upwards of $10 for a pair. Driving home, I couldn’t understand why you would not want to invest in a nice pair of lashes as I usually get 3 or 4 wears out of a strip, easy. But I guess how many times you wear them and the fact that a few of the girls at the table did not consider this; they thought they were one time wear. Here’s the way I’m able to get so many wears – I make sure my whole eye look including mascara, is done before applying a strip. That way when I remove them at the end of the day, I don’t have to put in a lot of elbow grease when cleaning each in some makeup remover. Sometimes I use a little mascara and the lash curler to infuse the strip to my lashes but not often.

So which brand did I tout at this get together? ROBERT REESE BEAUTY (formerly Xtended Beauty) Eyelashes & Adhesive. I can’t quite figure out the reason these are so easy to apply but I think the curve of each was just made for my eyes only! Hardly any adjusting needed and only $9 pair @ reeserobertbeauty.com.

Urban Decay Puts Out Urban Lash

URBAN DECAY just added some false eyelashes to the line. Seems like they should have added them a long time ago but better late than never. Urban Lash ($15 only @ sephora.com) comes in 18 different styles of wow and totally wearable. Maybe you’re looking for something fierce and nightclub? Then the intricate layers of Come Hither might be up your alley or maybe you just want some lashes that you might not have a hard time applying! Instaglam is 4 pairs or ¼ lashes so anyone can do it!

Makeup that Doesn’t Move

What’s the point of even putting any makeup on if it’s just going to slide off after an hour. I’ve search high and low for the ones that really keep in place and below is the list I’ve come up with. Let me know if you have any other recommendations!

Non-melting-makeup

STILA Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner ($20 @ stilacosmetics.com) – this stuff doesn’t budge, doesn’t budge and doesn’t budge! Choose from 8 colors. Highly recommended.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Cream ($22 @ sephora.com) – I wrote about these when they debuted at The Makeup Show a few months ago and I still can’t get enough of them, especially when making my shadow stay for a long period of time. And the brightness of #21 Turquoise is just so refreshing.

BLINC Kiss Me Mascara ($25 @ blincinc.com) – this is my favorite mascara of all time and I’ve tried probably 100 or so at this point. This won’t come off until you take it off yet it’s not waterproof, which is so hard to take off!

SEPHORA Lush Flush Lip & Cheek Stain in Red Wine ($12 @ sephora.com) – hair is flying around and strands flying into lips with gloss or lipstick is just not sexy. Stain ‘em instead!

NYX COSMETICS Fabulous Lashes ($4.50 @ nyxcosmetics.com) – so many different styles to wow your peepers with and these won’t melt off! Shown here in #119 Gorgeous.

Fix Your Beauty w/Revlon and Neil George

The GRAMMYs were last week and wow, what a long week it was. Here’s a video of me in the backstage lounge showing off what the celebs on the show are going home with. It’s not about beauty but it’s part of my day job.

Two products that got me through the show were these:

Neil-George-Dry-Shampoo-Revlon-Lashes-in-Lush REVLON Fantasy Length False Eyelashes in #91128 Lush ($5.49 @ drugstores nationwide) – instead of one long band, these have a few clusters per section so they are super easy to put on and get close placement to the lash line. And were these a lifesaver. Because I had to be down at the show at 9:30am each day, I didn’t have time to fiddle around.

NEIL GEORGE Refresh Dry Shampoo ($18/3.7oz @ neilgeorgesalon.com) – because the hair is always such concern, it just had to look good every day but again, time was an issue and this one saved the day, each day! This one contains a triple botanical complex to absorb excess oil and really helped my blowout last longer than it would have.

And be sure to check back on Monday for a GRAMMY-related contest!!
