What I’m Loving Right … Now!

Face Love
- JOUER COSMETICS Essentials Matte Touch ($26 @ – It’s officially the season of shiny faces, so make sure you carry a translucent mattifier with you at all times. This one from Jouer really absorbs oil and contains good-for-skin ingredients like vitamins C, D & E and Willow Bark Extract.

Wipe Love - TARTE ‘Fresh Eyes’ Maracuja Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover Wipes ($12/30 wipes @ – I love me some face wipes and it was only a matter of time before our tarte friends came out with some. These combine maracuja with fruit extracts to fully remove makeup and nourish the skin.

Body Love - THE GRAPESEED CO Custom Lotion in Mama’s Blend ($22/8oz @ – While I prefer a body oil to a lotion these days, I’m simply loving this lotion in grapeseed, aloe & coconut! And it’s made with quality ingredients. Make your own custom lotion with their rich vinotherapy body lotion and you can even choose your own name and bottle color.

Hair Love - PUREOLOGY ‘Strength Cure’ Restorative Masque ($50/5.2oz @ on where to buy) – No matter what month the calendar says, my strands always seems in need of a hair mask. This latest mask from one of my favorite hair care lines fortifies strands with Asta-Repair including Astaxanthin, a powerful antioxidant, which  reduces breakage of micro-scarred/damaged color-treated hair.

Fragrance Love - NOMAD TWO WORLDS Wild Fire EDP from the Raw Spirit Collection ($35/7.5ml rollerball @ – this warm scent pays tribute to one of the founder’s native land of Australia with sandalwood, creamy amber along with ylang ylang, jasmine on a base of musk and cedarwood. Really nice.

Have You Tried Highlighting & Contouring Yet? This Can Help.

So far in 2014, highlighting and contouring has to be the hottest trend right now and makeup companies are hearing the rumbles and putting out products to make it easy to do just that.

Take this one from one of my favorite lines, IT COSMETICS. Their just released My Sculpted Face contains 6 waterproof powders to be used to contour and sculpt your way to a natural look. I think I first got turned onto it after seeing the Allure magazine’s 2013 Blogger of the Year, Cara Brook from Maskcara and her Hac-ing demonstration. I tried it a few times with different products and just couldn’t seem to find the right mix of colors. Maybe I wasn’t choosing the right shades? Or maybe I just need more practice! Either way, I’m quite fascinated with the whole thing and was excited to try this one from IT.

Holiday Makeup Product Picks

Chances are you are going to be hitting up a few holiday parties in the next few weeks and part of what I love about this time of year is the permission to kick your makeup look a little. A little dab of shimmer, iridescence or gleam is a great way to show your holiday spirit. Below are the items I’m using to do it up right this season. Ho! Ho! Ho!

Clockwise from L to R:

HARD CANDY Shadow Dancers Liquid to Powder Eyeshadow in Bold & Beautiful ($6 @ - both shades contain luminizing pearls to make eye really … dance!

GLEAM BY MELANIE MILLS Body Radiance in Rose Gold ($15/1oz, $30/2oz, $40/3.5oz @ – this all-in-one moisturizer and body glow is nice for highlighting the fronts of the legs and décolletage.

6 Heart Princess Love in Wink by Takashi Murakami for SHU UEMURA False Eyelashes ($30 @ – Lashes add glamour to any look and these unique ones are adorned with a heart on each one and combines brown and pink lashes. How fun!

BARE ESCENTUALS Touch To-Glow ($14 @ – for when you want a little luminosity, not glitter or harsh sparkle, this one will do the trick.

URBAN DECAY Naked Illuminating Shimmering Powder for Face and Body ($29 @ – a gorgeous shimmery powder that only UD can make perfect. I feel like this should have come with some kind of puff instead of a flat brush. Still nice though.

Aqualilies Swim for Tarte

TARTE just came out with their Aqualillies for Tarte collection and it just screams Springtime! The colors of the packaging, the colors inside them; it all just works. Here are my picks from the collection.

Product picks: Amazonian Clay Waterproof Eye and Cheek Palette ($38) – this is comprised of 6 new eye shadows, a bronzer, highlighter and limited-edition Amazonian Clay 12-hour blush. All gorg and totally workable colors, right?

Amazonian Waterproof Liner in Splash ($24) – it’s no secret that I absolutely love teal and this one is gorgeous! And this comes with a duo angled brush to help you get the best application.

Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder ($29) – finishing powders are becoming big with quite a few brands putting them out and the timing is nice because they help keep makeup in place when the temperatures rise. As the name states, this one has their star ingredient Amazonian Clay in it so it helps keep the skin balanced while improving the texture and combat oil.

Glamazon Pure Performance 12-hour Lipstick ($26 and limited edition!) – this vibrant coral is right on trend and can you believe the Aqualillies wear this while performing in the pool? They had to make their signature shade waterproof, right?

Review: NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder

Sometimes seeing is believing and that is surely the case with NARSnew Light Reflecting Setting Powder in Translucent Crystal. It looks white in the container but know that it doesn’t show up white when you buff it onto the skin, just transluscent. It contains vitamin E and glycerin, which is supposed to help hold makeup in place, as well as what they call Photochromic Technology to diffuse the light and adjust to new sources of light throughout the day. Speaking of, of course I need to share how long this lasted on my skin but it was hard to tell but I’d put it at about 4 hours.

NARS-Light-Reflecting-Loose-Setting-PowderThe powder is so finely milled, probably the most finely these eyes have ever seen. But what I’m most impressed with is the finishing touch it gives to your look and though I don’t have oily skin, I think this will be a great one for those that struggle with excess face oil and they will get a few more hours out of their look. This one also comes in a pressed form. Have you tried either of these yet? $34 @

Take Advantage of Blurring Technology with Hourglass Cosmetics

Doesn’t it seem that most illuminating face powders are for print work or just look really great in magazines when the light is just perfect? That’s what I think of when I come across these kinds of powders. Just out is HOURGLASS COSMETICS Ambient Lighting Powder ($45 @ and it’s like one of those foundations with the light diffusing properties that blur imperfections. They describe it as, ““photoluminescent technology” - micron-size spherical particles that refract light and create transparent coverage. The only other time I’ve see a powder like this was quite a few years ago here and that reminds me, I should pull it out of the drawer to use it again as I really liked it. Eh, so much makeup, so little time!

Hourglass-Cosmetics-Ambient-Lighting-Powder-Diffused-Light Hourglass-Cosmetics-Ambient-Lighting-Powder-Diffused-Light-up-closeAnyway, this one comes in 6 different shades and the one I tried was the Diffused Light, which helps quell redness, and one seems to specialize in bringing out/hiding something existing in your skin. Quite fascinating and worth investigating the other shades and while these don’t look like much in the compact, it’s what it does to the face that’s worth it. Is this something up your alley?
