Chanel Natural Finish Loose Powder

There are a few things in life I just don’t get: stirrup pants, lip plumpers, UGG Boots and Beef Jerky. And I think I’m adding this face powder to the list. CHANEL Natural Finish Loose Powder in Ferrie 47 is part of the Holiday 2011 Makeup Collection and a really beautiful light and soft shimmering pink. So what’s the problem?

Fall 2011 Product Picks with Estee Lauder

Now that my birthday has past, I’m finally ready to talk fall makeup. I don’t know what it is but I’m never ready to talk about the next season until we are actually there; call it trying to live in the here and now.

Anyway, I’m quite excited about the products hitting us now for fall and will be running an on-going feature of Fall Product Picks, which will be obviously designated by the below logo.

What kinds of products are you most excited for this fall?

I feel like the ESTEE LAUDER Pure Color Modern Mercury Fall 2011 Collection is really playing with the big boys when it comes to creating possible cult favorites. It’s all about metallic metals, a soft shimmering canvas and edgy matte lips and these made their runway debut at the Derek Lam Fall 2011 shows.

Quite a few awesome items in this collection and below are the ones getting two thumbs up from me.

Pure Color Liquid EyeLiner in Graphite ($21) – a deep hematite or pewter with shimmer. And it lasts for hours, which is half of its sex appeal.

Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee ($40) – I am absolutely in love with this powder. Such texture and depth but I guess that’s what you get when you combine a powder, liquid and gel. Use it wet or dry for two different affects. I’ve been using this one under the brow bone and even on bare lids.

Pure Color Velvet Lipstick in Fuchsia Velvet ($24) – there’s something about a hot pink that just translates from season to season, or at least I think it does.

Pure Color EyeShadow Duo in Black Chrome ($30) – using their exclusive True Vision Technology, a matte grey and shimmer grey will help you get the deepest, darkest smoky eye possible.

New from Napoleon Perdis!

From the man that I credit with pretty much creating the first makeup primer on the market, NAPOLEON PERDIS, comes his new ROCK ON! Collection. And this one has a new kind of primer, a powder form!

This is Mr. Perdis’s venture into the mineral makeup world and I actually kind of surprised it took this long for him. Here are the deets:

Mattifying Mineral Primer ($29) – this one can be used before and after foundation. A yellow powder? Don’t worry, it’s translucent but do you remember Urban Decay’s Nirvana Universal Loose Powder? It was yellow. Or I could be really dating myself by mentioning the other yellow powder I remember - T. LeClerc’s Banana Loose Powder? Also yellow and had quite a cult following.

Anyway, I found using a medium sized flat top brush like this one most effective when applying it before(it) the foundation and a bigger domed brush when applying it as a finishing powder.

And one tip about the container – he created it so that the sifter mechanism will measure out (click-click) just enough primer for one application. Genius!

Napoleon-Perdis-Advanced-Mineral-Foundation,-Mattifying-Powder Advanced Mineral Makeup SPF 15 ($59) – available in 6 shades, this one contains those light diffusers (pretty much a must-have inside any foundation these days), and also antioxidant ingredients and the aforementioned SPF. It gives medium matte coverage and a little goes a long way. I tried this one with a makeup brush and a sponge and found the sponge worked best. Let’s hear it for another winning liquid mineral foundation on the scene.

He was smart about these first two products by including antioxidants and sodium hyaluronate, which is a key anti-aging ingredient, in both of these. Love a multi-tasker! Both @ napoleonperdis.com

MAC Semi Precious Collection

MAC just put out the Semi Precious Collection and it’s broken down into three overall collections – Semi Precious Colour (lippies, blush, skinfinish), Semi Precious Skin (foundation, a charged water and a face+body lotion) and Semi Precious Eyes (shadows and mascara). Why they are breaking it down like this? No idea but it’s quite confusing I think. Anyway, I’ve decided I’m just not down with these Mineralize Eyeshadows or Mineralize Blushes. They look so amazing in the packaging and perfect for my Product as Art feature but what it looks like in the packaging and what it swatches as is just too different and it disappoints me. What would be cool with these is if I could somehow pick up the design in the pan and apply that to the lid like these. What a great effect that would be!

MAC-Semi-Precious-Collection So let’s look at what I did like about the collection, and that would be the lippies in the Semi Precious Colour! Quite a few keepers. The Lustre Lipstick in Gem of Roses (midtone strawberry pink) and One of a Kind (midtone rosy neutral), and the Cremesheen Glass in Natural Flare (light caramel nude) and Geo Pink (strawberry pink ).

I also really liked the Mineralized Skinfinish in Semi Precious Pearl from the same collection. The outside is a beige champagne and the inner color is a combination of white, plum and bronzer, which is nice for contouring or a little blush. A nice two-in-one product!

A Powder Compact with a Twist from Lise Watier

Lise-Watier-Mineral-Compact-Powder Here’s a new spin on a standard – a pressed mineral powder with some oil blotting papers inside. How cool is that?! It’s LISE WATIER’s Mineral Compact Powder and it comes in 6 shades and the powder is infused with vitamins A and E, chamomile extract and tourmaline. $35 @ lisewatier.com.

I just wish they sold blotting sheet refills for this! Great idea but there are just not enough of them inside, especially since summer is on its way.

A New Trend from Mally Beauty?

Mally-Beauty-Poreless-Face-Defender-with-Sponge This MALLY BEAUTY Poreless Face Defender has to be one of the strangest (in a good way) product I have ever come across. It was created to act like a face powder but without the powder residue. See Mally hates powders. I can’t say I agree or disagree with her as I’m just so used to them and really only feel that my look is complete as soon as I swipe on a translucent finishing powder. What she was after with this Poreless Face Defender is the perfectly dewy finish that’s not shiny or powdery looking. The result in the compact looks like dried glue that you dab the enclosed sponge on and buff it around this face like you would a powder. It seals the makeup on just like a powder only without the powder after-effect. And I have to say, it really does make the skin look great and it feels quite slick too. So maybe think of this as a primer for after makeup it applied instead of before?

And thankfully QVC has a video on their site you can see before and after video! $40 @ qvc.com.
