Review+Swatches - Jane Iredale Mystikol Powdered Eyeliner/Highlighter

Liquid eyeliners and pencil liners are fine but a lot of times but more times than not I find myself looking around my makeup table for a smudge brush to soften the look, especially for a daytime look. This JANE IREDALE Mystikol Powdered Eyeliner/Highlighter ($20 @ janeiredale.com and beauty.com) is a nice one to not only apply color but virtually eliminates the second step of blending it in.

5 Favorite Radiant Orchid Products

I'm starting a new on-going feature called "5 Favorite ... " where I list my 5 current favorite products in a particular category. So this week, I've chosen Pantone's Color of the Year, Radiant Orchid.

It’s almost like they picked it just because it’s such a great color when it comes to makeup! Here are my favorites when it comes to this color. Are you wearing any radiant orchid these days on your features?

Pantone-Color-of-the-Year-2014-

THE BODY SHOP Bunch of Violets Shimmer Cubes Palette #23 ($22 @ thebodyshop.com) – this quad is great for creating an overall orchid-colored eye look. The cube shades are: Orchid Purple, Candy Pink, Pearly White and Velvet Plum. Use wet or dry and apply with brush or your finger and blend, blend, blend.

MARC JACOBS BEAUTY Shameless Bold Blush in #212 Outspoken ($30 @ sephora.com) – blend in  this surprisingly workable shade on cheeks. So unexpectedly fun.

DOLCE & GABBANA The Nail Lacquer in Passione ($24 @ sephora.com) – along with the Beauty Addicts, this one is a spot on perfect shade of the trending color. Gorg!

BEAUTY ADDICTS Lip Addiction in Seduce Fierce ($17 @ beautyaddicts.com) – I think this shade perfectly describes the shade. The coverage is sheer to medium depending how much you apply.

KANEBO Sensai Rouge Everlasting Colour in #115 Iwatsutsuji ($40 @ neimanmarcus.com) – this one is just a smidge more purple so if you want your trending shade more on that side, this would be a good one to try. And these lippies are really smooth and last quite a few hours.

Review+Swatches - Chanel Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow

I’m sure more than half the country is ready to talk spring but I can only deliver a spring collection, sorry! But it’s from CHANEL so you know it will be some nice springy colors to give you something to look forward to.

The Collection Notes de Printemps was inspired by the sunny duality of lightness and brightness that creates a harmony of pastels, electric pinks and vivid purples. Let’s look at one of the eye products, shall we?

Review+Swatches - Dolce & Gabbana The Eyeshadow Smooth Quad in Desert

With the huge success of nude makeup these days, I found a cool eye shadow quad in this family from the DOLCE & GABBANA brand. It’s The Eyeshadow Smooth Eye Colour Quad in Desert ($59 @ sephora.com). Besides the usual, “are these shades something I would wear?” question, I like that each is a different finish – one is matte, one is metallic and one is satin and one is pearl. And to answer the previous question, yes, I think each of these four shades is totally wearable for all skin types.

Review+Swatches - Stila Magnificent Metal Eyes Shadows

So I’m kind of glad that December is coming to a close and my site can get back to normal again. And I can catch up on a few products that I had to put aside with the gift guide taking center stage all month. One being STILA Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eye Shadow. I was so curious about these after seeing the finishes of one of them in the pot a friend had. Wow! I thought if the vibrancy would show up exactly like it appeared in the pot, this could become a major player.

So how did they do? Click after the photo to find out!

Holiday Makeup Product Picks

Chances are you are going to be hitting up a few holiday parties in the next few weeks and part of what I love about this time of year is the permission to kick your makeup look a little. A little dab of shimmer, iridescence or gleam is a great way to show your holiday spirit. Below are the items I’m using to do it up right this season. Ho! Ho! Ho!

Star-Holiday-Party-Makeup

Clockwise from L to R:

HARD CANDY Shadow Dancers Liquid to Powder Eyeshadow in Bold & Beautiful ($6 @ walmart.com) - both shades contain luminizing pearls to make eye really … dance!

GLEAM BY MELANIE MILLS Body Radiance in Rose Gold ($15/1oz, $30/2oz, $40/3.5oz @ gleambymelaniemills.com) – this all-in-one moisturizer and body glow is nice for highlighting the fronts of the legs and décolletage.

6 Heart Princess Love in Wink by Takashi Murakami for SHU UEMURA False Eyelashes ($30 @ shuuemurausa.com) – Lashes add glamour to any look and these unique ones are adorned with a heart on each one and combines brown and pink lashes. How fun!

BARE ESCENTUALS Touch To-Glow ($14 @ bareescentuals.com) – for when you want a little luminosity, not glitter or harsh sparkle, this one will do the trick.

URBAN DECAY Naked Illuminating Shimmering Powder for Face and Body ($29 @ urbandecay.com) – a gorgeous shimmery powder that only UD can make perfect. I feel like this should have come with some kind of puff instead of a flat brush. Still nice though.

What I’m Using … Right Now!

Clockwise:

WATER JEL Burn Jel Plus ($9.99/4oz @ burnjel.com) – yup I burned myself with my curling iron. And just last week I was scoffing at this product that protects against burns on the ears! Well mine was on my neck so I’m glad I had this on hand to not only to soothe it right after it happened but to help it heal.

CUCCIO Sugar Scrub in Vanilla Bean & Sugar ($29.98/19.5oz @ bebeautiful.com) – Maybe it’s my sweet tooth but I seem to gravitate towards sugar scrubs over salt scrubs. And this Vanilla Bean & Sugar smells like a cupcake. Yum!

B-LEVE b impeccable Foundation Brush ($7.49 @ b-leve.com) – I just picked up Armani’s Maestro Foundation to try out and have been using it with this great foundation brush. It’s just the right width and fits comfortably in my hand. And the best part? The price!

DERMORGANIC Daily Conditioning Shampoo ($5.99/3oz, $16/12oz @ dermorganic.com) – this one is sulfate-free and safe for color-treated hair (it’s not a color support(it) shampoo though), and it contains nutrients both hair and skin depend on, it can be used from head to toe. Yup, the hair and then on the skin. Now that’s a first!

LOLITA LEMPICKA Elle L’Aime EDP ($100/2.5oz @ neimanmarcus.com) – this scent, meaning “She Loves” en Francois, is certainly not a one note kinda scent. It’s multi-dimentional with top notes of Bergamot, Neroli, and lime, coconut, ylang-ylang and jasmine as the middle notes, all on a base of Myrrh,  vanilla and sandalwood. Very unique.

SEBASTIAN SIGNS Purusa Dream Extract ($28/1oz @ sebastiansigns.com) – what a great way to help you fall asleep. This luxury pillow spray combines sandalwood, organic clary sage and bergamot to make drifting off into lala land enjoyable and soothing. This smells so good, I would wear it as an everyday fragrance.

SEPHORA + Pantone Universe Jumbo Waterproof Eye Pencil Elemental Energy in Earth – Shark (shimmering shark gray) ($17 @ sephora.com) – this collection was inspired by the four elements (quick, name them!!) and this shimmery gray is wonderful by itself or when used to blend two colors together.

Review+Swatches - MAC Divine Night: Holiday Colour Collection

Every year I look forward to the offerings from the MAC COSMETICS line and they do seem to up themselves in areas. Those areas would be the accessories like the makeup palettes and cosmetic bags. More on those at a later date. What I did get my paws on now are 3 of the items from the Divine Night Collection.

What it is: What happens at night stays there. MAC captures the moment when flashing lights illuminate a flair for finery and limitless luxury that can only be described as divine. Gorgeous colours in rich finishes inspire an evening on the scene and to be seen. Enjoy yourself – past midnight, the darkness keeps the secrets.

So let’s look closer at these and some swatches!
