Carol's Daughter Can Fix It

Carolsdaughter_2Another favorite products to test out besides mascaras has to be hair masks. I can instantly tell if one works on my strands or not. Skin care products? Not so cut and dry results, most of the time. We have liked a few of CAROL’S DAUGHTER products since this line came on the scene a few years ago and they are totally ready for their time in the sun, when it comes to creating a cult favorite. This Khoret Amen Hair Smoothie Intense Conditioning Treatment ($19/8oz @ sephora.com) is, as Carol herself says, made with peace and love. And I can tell, or at least my hair can tell. It’s made with sunflower seed oil (for overall strand strength), Rapa Seed Oil (to help detangle) and olive fruit oil (helps seal in moisture) and Shea Butter, which we all know about. It’s a hair mask so it has to be left on the hair for 5 to 15 minutes. And to get even better results, put a plastic cap on and cover your head with this baby. Your hair will thank you.

Heavenly Nose Part … Four

What do you think when you smell a pleasing beauty product? I seem to assume that if it smells nice, it must work, right? Wrong! There are a lot of them out there that yes, they smell nice, but belong in the trash. Here’s our last installment of products that not only perform up to par but also smell heavenly.

Getting To The Shea Of Things - Part II

In continuing our coverage of great Shea Butter products, I am really surprised at the number of ones that have the word Shea in the name of the product and then the ingredient is waaaaay down on the list. It seems like it was almost an after thought, “Oh we need to put some actual Shea Butter in there since it has it in the name.” Anyway, here are some more recommendations with the ingredient right at the top of the ingredient list.

How Vo Can You Go?

Lots of talk about this next person and he now has a line to product line to schmooze with. KiM VO has moved up the ladder of success and into Hollywood pretty darn fast and he still looks like a teenager! Born of Vietnamese-French background, he started his training in New York City and moved to Beverly Hills where he joined two of the cities’ top salons to become one of the top colorists in his field.Kimvo He has done the hair of many-a celebrity but we don’t really care about that. I’m just amazed at all he has accomplished at his young age of 26! So let’s get to the reason you’re reading this, his product line. They are all made for color-treated hair (we love that) and have a personal touch from his homeland, the ingredient Boket only found in Vietnam. Boket is a bean helps with moisture levels to really infuse each shaft to the max since coloring depletes it. He also includes ME-10 in all the products to enhance the color and mend Keratin.

The two products I tried were the Moisturizing Shampoo ($22/7.5oz) and Moisturizing Conditioner ($24/7.5oz). The Shampoo uses silk polypeptides to clean and Blue Lotus to rejuvenate the scalp and strands. The Conditioner contains Wakame to protect from free radicals and the sun and Meadow foam extract to seal each hair cuticle after washing. And it really worked well as detangling.
After blow-drying, my hair color definitely looked nice and not matte like it sometimes does if I’m not using products specifically made for color-treated hair. And we won’t be doing that anymore! I’ll let you know if any of the other products in the line are worth trying out. All @ kimvo.com

Alive & Kicking

CtonicsThe timing on this next line is right on. It seems that everyone is a-buzz regarding green, organic and eco-friendly. And a Hollywood hairstylist is taking on the hair category with C TONiCS. This line is composed of 100% live organic ingredients that not only treat your hair but also the scalp. Each product is sulfate-free (safe for color-treated strands, yeah!) and is made with various ingredients from around the world, like oils from Sri Lanka, clays from Iceland and herbs from China. You are really getting a global product here!

There are seven products ($25/8oz bottle) and each addresses a different hair or scalp concern. Choose Core, Pulse, Tranquility, Passion, Tantra, Elixir Milk, or Elixir Blossom. Learn more about this groundbreaking line @ ctonics.com

Shu Your Hair

Shushampoo_2ShustyleprotectantSHU UEMURA just came out with the Art of Hair line. And if they do hair care like they do cosmetics, we’ll be in for a treat. The Full Shimmer Illuminating Shampoo ($40/10oz) and Full Shimmer Illuminating Conditioner ($50/8.5oz) are made for color treated strands (that’s me!) and each contains Rose Musk Oil, which is rich in anti-oxidants. These really gave my color a slight kick and didn’t leave my strands dried out. And the touch of rose scent is really soothing.

And I am also recommending their new Iron Design Protective Thermal Spray ($30/5oz) that is sprayed on before blow drying. All @ 866-914-8750

"Hair, Hair, Flow It, Show It ..."

MOLTON BROWN just came out with a new HairTreat collection just in time for the Holidays. Since I am such a sucker for a good hair mask, I automatically gravitatedMoltonhairmask towards the Reawakening Mer-Rouge Hair Hydramasque ($30/6.6oz). It bathed hair in amino acids, vitamins and dulse sea extracts. I don't think my hair could have taken one more day of wind or the tugging and pulling of styling. So just 15 minutes and my hair is back to normal. Do something nice for your strands today.

There's also a Depth Charge Seednoir Prewash Hair-Therapy ($30/3.3oz) and Shining Starbloom Haircondition & Detangle ($20/6.6oz) in the collection. All @ moltonbrown.com

Love Your Body, Now Love Your Hair

I swear styling products should be by prescription only. I gotta find me a class or something – Hair Styling 101. I just can’t seem to ever get it the way I want! But when it comes to cleaning, DOVE keeps it real, as in real women, as we’ve seen. I’m impressed that they have taken this stance and now they are going one step further and into the hair territory. We all want Hollywood Hair but as this video shows, it takes a lot of time and money and frankly, it’s pretty unrealistic. I think I’ll just stick with giving it my best shot.

DovesOne thing I think I have a good grip on is shampoos and conditioners. DOVE Cool Moisture Shampoo and Cool Moisture Conditioner, both in the Cucumber & Green Tea scent, are very gentle to the hair and that smell, I can’t get enough. This duo is not for those who color treat their strands. $7.99/25.4oz each @ drugstore.com

Where Have You Been All My Life?

Bedhead2This product comes under the category of “I don’t know how they did it, but I don’t care because it works!” TiGi Bed Head Superstar Volumizing Leave in Conditioner ($16.99/6.76oz @ beautydeals.net) really does what it says it does. It’s a very lightweight leave in conditioner, yet it gives you lots of volume when styling. It detangles and strengthens hair while adding body, shine and fights frizz. If that isn’t a superstar product, I don’t know what is. Spray in towel dried hair and comb through for superstar status. ~Lisa

Red Carpet Hair

WarrensThe hair experts at WARREN-TRiCOMI in New York and now Los Angeles style a lot of different the celebrities’ hair and they use their own extensive line of hair products ranging from shampoo and conditioners to every kind of styling need you could think of! Lots of volume was to be had with the Volumizing Shampoo ($18/8oz) and Volumizing Conditioner ($20/8oz) from the Style Line. My hair can get kind of limp and sad (love the way you put that!), and this duo perked it right up. They use natural ingredients like rosemary, hops and geranium in the shampoo and the conditioner and both are color safe.

Since mousse is one of my favorite styling products, you know I loved the Style Mousse ($17/7oz). With a blend of their Advanced Styling Technology and natural extracts like Hawaiian Ginger, Banana, Coconut, Lemongrass, Papaya, and Passion Fruit, this dynamo product helps create texture and volume and helps eliminate static electricity. So many great products to make our locks lovely! All @ bathandbodyworks.com ~Lisa

Taking Hair To New Heights

KiehlsssSince 1851, KiEHL’S has been bringing us fine quality skin and hair care and they’ve just introduced a Rice & Wheat Volumizing Hair Care duo. As always, it is infused with lots of natural goodness: natural hydrolyzed rice protein, wheat protein, honey, Jojoba seed and rice bran. I did get lots of volume, but without the usual dryness that sometimes accompanies volumizing products. This duo is excellent for thin and fine hair. It smells fresh, detangles, smooth split ends and hair appears fuller and thicker, while keeping the softness. Rice & Wheat Volumizing Shampoo or Conditioner $18/8.4oz each @ kiehls.com ~Lisa

Be Gentle With Me

CutlershampCutlercond_2In this transitional weather season, we must rethink our moisturizers, makeup … and hair care. If you can’t make it into one of Rodney Cutler’s famous Manhattan hair salons, you can experience his expertise in your own home! CUTLER Extra Gentle Shampoo is the perfect haven for “s-tressed” out hair transitioning from the heat of summer to the coolness of the fall. Hair really feels soft and has no tangles with this tenderly refining shampoo ($16/8oz). Even better is the Intensive Conditioner ($17/8oz), which nourishes dry and damaged hair without weighing hair down. The cool blue stripes really stand out in the shower so the bottles are easily found to instantly work their magic. All @ amazon.com ~Lisa

A Passion for Hair

FruitsshampooFruitsconditionerI’ve been using FRUiTS & PASSiON products forever so when I found out they recently launched a hair care line I was so excited to try them. The collection has five formulas that address the five most common hair types and when I saw Protection-Brilliance Shampoo ($18/8.5oz) designed for “stressed out” hair, I knew immediately that this was the one my tresses needed. This formula restores natural protection to fragile hair, infuses shine, and prevents damage caused by the sun, and boy does it live up to its promises. I’ve been using the shampoo for 2 weeks now and I’ve noticed a dramatic difference in the appearance and texture of my hair; it’s shiny and bouncy and I just love it. I’ve also been using Protection-Brilliance Conditioner ($19/6.7oz), which you leave in for a minute after shampooing and then rinse, and I’m amazed that my hair not only looks healthy but it feels great. So address your hair’s problems with any of these fabulous four duos -- oily, normal, dry, and color treated hair, and guys, here’s a great line for you too. Available @ fruits-passion.com ~Randi

Summertime Hair Savers

OjonAfter watching many shows on the QVC channel on this next line, I finally was able to try it out. The main ingredient in all of OJON’s products is the Honduran Ojan nut, which the locals call a tress transformer. They just came out with these three kits, which make it not only easier to sample more of the line but you're also getting the best bang for your buck. There’s a Fortifying Hair Ritual, Nurturing Hair Ritual, and my pick, the Shine and Protect Hair Ritual Kit ($50 @ sephora.com), made for those of us who color our hair. The set includes a Restorative Hair Treatment (1.35oz), Shine and Protect Shampoo (2oz), Shine and Protect Conditioner (2oz), Shine and Protect Glossing Mist (.85oz), and a Leave-In Glossing Cream (2oz).

More Perfect

Teraxes_2TERAX has revamped their whole line. I have always really liked their Shampoos ($20) and Conditioners ($20-$48) so I am focusing on those right now. They were already fantastic so I don’t know how they could have improved perfection. Well they added a new exclusive Gentlewash System to the five Shampoos. This makes each sulfate free so it doesn’t strip the hair and helps preserve hair color. And since I only use sulfate-free shamps, this is a treat!

Also new are the bottles. All the styling products are a seafoam green and the shamps and conditioners are a true blue color. Look for features of their styling products in the coming months. All @ sephora.com

Add A Touch of Moisture

NEACLEAR's Liquid Oxygen Leave-In Conditioner is a must for dry hair and scalp in these upcoming months. It contains chamomile, rosemary and sweet almond oil, which stimulate the scalp and helps control and nourish dry, frizzy hair. I spritzed it on my dry scalp and hair, and it felt soothing on my scalp and left my hair smelling really clean and fresh and feeling soft. $7.95/8oz @ prskincare.com  ~Celena

Ooo LaLa for Olive Oil

Olishampoo_2 Lately I’m finding that any product with olive oil is a good one and OLI offers a super Olicond Shampoo and Conditioner. Ease the Frizz

Frizzeaseshampoo_2 I've always liked JOHN FRiEDA products. Not only are they inexpensive and easilyFrizzeaseconditioner_4  attainable but they also work great on my very curly hair and I’ve tried everything on the market. The Frizz-Ease Curl Around Style Activating Daily Shampoo and Frizz-Ease Curl Around Style Activating Daily Conditioner leave my hair feeling super soft and conditioned and seem to really separate and define each curl. You would think that the more expensive brands would work better but these work just right without sucking the moisture out of my locks or my purse. $5.99/10oz each @ drugstore.com ~Celena

How Deep Is Your Love ...

... for your hair? I’m lucky enough to be able to wear my hair wavy or straight but my strandsLogics  can suffer from this back and forth. That’s why I love me a really good hair mask. LOGICS DNA Color Vitalizing Treatment Masque ($24.99/5.1oz @ logicshair.com) not only treats the state of my hair but also takes into consideration that I color treat it so it deep-conditions and restores my hair’s health in only 5 minutes. The formula also has a UV filter so this one helps in and out of the shower.
