Fall 2011 Product Standouts - Part 1

OMG, it is already September 21st and I’m not even half way through featuring all the new fall beauty products so I’m going to stretch this Fall Beauty Pick feature into October. After all, fall is one of my favorite seasons – the colors, the textures and of course the temperatures! Here are some that are singing my tune right now.

Falll-2011-Beauty-Pick-logo
Fall-2011-Product-Picks-first-feature Clockwise left to right:

MAKE UP FOR EVER Smoky Lash in #6 Plum ($22 @ sephora.com) – this one claims to curl and lo and behold, I think it did! A great complement when wearing their Crayon Kohl Pencil in new shade 10k, a deep eggplant sheen.

NYC COLOR In A New York Color Minute Quick Dry Nail Polish in Scenestealer Grey ($1.99 @ drugstores nationwide) – metallic grey is a hot color for fall and it goes with so many different looks.

NAPOLEON PERDIS NP SET False Eye Lashes in Manchester ($10 @ Target or target.com) – if you just want a little emphasis on your eyes, this style will do it subtly. If a strip is too hard for you to maneuver, there’s also Copenhagen, individual lashes.

PACIFICA Island Vanilla Perfume ($22/1oz, $12/roll-on @ pacificaperfume.com) – Tahitian vanilla, vanilla absolute, honey-jasmine and a touch of fruit and tea make up this totally wearable made from pure grain alcohol scent.

POP BEAUTY Face Magnet Primer ($26/1.18oz @ dermstore.com) – this makeup primer not only keeps your makeup on but it has UV protection, caffeine and anti-aging ingredients. Gotta love double triple duty products.

NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner in Rue de Rivoli ($25 @ narscosmetics.com) – this metallic forest green will complement any eye color. Very smooth application and it has a sharpener built in the backend.

CLINIQUE Lipgloss/Lipstick Duo in Black Honey ($21 @ sephora.com) – check out what all the hubbub is about with their cult favorite Black Honey shade. It’s their best seller for a reason and now they have it in a combo Lip Gloss and Lipstick.

Coming Our Way from Clinique ...

I’m glad to see CLINIQUE getting in on the long-wearing cream eye shadow trend that’s occuring right now though the packaging is a little too close to this one for my liking. I’ll bet theirs was in the making when they saw the competitions release. Oh well. Anyway, the ones from Clinique are called Lid Smoothie Antioxidant 8-Hour Eye Colour and hit stores/website in August for $19.50 each (press release did not say the exact day_. There are 12 shades available and I applied the Currant Affair on my lids and hit my boot camp workout. And I have to say, it lasted really well through the class. I’d give it a 7.5 out of 10.

Clinique-Lid-Smoothie-Antioxidant-8-hour-Eye-Colour The formula itself has vitamin E inside and extracts of broccoli, carrot, blueberry and spinach. Huh? And then also cucumber, aloe vera and caffeine. I get those but not the aforementioned! What I really like is the cooling silver tip applicator at the end of the tube’s top that is cooling when it touches the skin.

Know that these shades are pretty pigmented, wear sheer and the colors are really low key, which is expected, because the brand has never been known for bright only-some-people-will-like-them colors. I guess I’m so used to seeing over the top bright colors right now. Like most of their line, these shades are work approved!

Clinique's Bomb Balms

Clinique-Chubby-Stick These little chub sticks contains some nourishing oils like jojoba, mango and olive and just a hint of color. And when I say hint, I mean hint, almost not enough for me. It’s from CLINIQUE and it’s their new Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balms. The finish is between a balm and a gloss so if you don’t like the feeling of wearing lipstick, think might be a good one for you. So fix your lips but look good doing it!

Choose from 8 colors for $15 @ clinique.com. Color picks: Chunky Cherry (sheer cherry red) and Graped Up (sheer sheer plum beige).

Clinique Gives Moisture Surge Some Tint

Clinique-moisture-surge-tinted-moisturizer I never thought I’d see CLINIQUE’s Moisture Surge morph into anything else than what it is, so when they came out with this Moisture Surge Tinted Moisture SPF 15, umm wow, ok then. So they just got a little crazy with it and put out 6 new ones that are, as the name states, tinted.

Warmer climates are on deck so isn’t it time to change up some of your makeup routine to lighter products anyway? Their researchers determined that 82% of women use a facial moisturizer and 67% use a foundation, so they thought, why not combine the two in one of their most popular moisturizers? Know that a little gel goes a long way and be sure to blend it in well right after squeezing it out of the tube.

For some reason, though, there only seems to be two colors of this on the lighter side of the spectrum. I tried shades 3 and 4, which look dark online and outta the tube but seem to work fine on my light/medium olive complexion. $24.50 @ clinique.com.

Two from Clinique For Aging Skin

Clinique-Dark-Spot-Corrector-and-Youth-Surge-Night-Moisturizer Since I discovered a few dark spots to the right of my right eye recently that were not there a few months ago, or at least I don’t think they were, I’ve been all hot on this new product CLINIQUE put out. The main offending spot is about the size of a pencil eraser, so I dove head first into their new Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector ($49.50/1oz) when their PR people sent it to me to try out. There’s a huge push on this product right now as they claim prescription strength and that you can see a difference on the skin in as little as four weeks. It contains their patent-pending CL-302 plant-derived complex that claims to help prevent the appearance of new dark spots and visibly break up existing clusters of pigment as well as  improve the overall radiance and clarity. So how did it work for me? I have used it for about 5 weeks now and while I do see a boost in the overall radiance and slight difference around the main brown spot, it didn’t get rid of the brown spot altogether, which is what I was hoping for. So I’ll keep on using it until the product runs out and hopefully it will do some more damage to the main brown spot.

The other new product I’ve been using is their new Youth Surge Night Age Decelerating Night Moisturizer for dry combination ($48.50/1.7oz) and what a great nighttime moisturizer this one is. Based on Sirtuin Techology, this super thick balm that absorbs pretty quickly. And while it does seem a tad on the expensive side, even for Clinique, a little dab goes a long way. Clinique Instant Lift for Brows

Wow CLINIQUE is putting out some really useful products these days. There’s this one and then there’s this Instant Lift for Brows ($15 @ clinique.com). It’s a two-fer as in one side is the filler to add a little color to sparse brows and give them some shape, while the other side is a warm pink brow bone highlighter, which we know makes eyes just pop. And the filler is wax-based, so it will also help keep the hairs in place. Love that!! Available in 3 shades, Deep Brown, Soft Brown and Soft Blonde.

Two Mascaras for Length

Maybelline-XXL-Pro-Mascara-Clinique-High-Lengths-Mascara MAYBELLINE NEW YORK XXL Pro Volume Mascara ($7.99 @ ulta.com) – this two-sided mascara contains a microfiber basecoat one side and then rich color on the other. The microfibers are like tiny extensions!

CLINIQUE High Lengths Mascara ($14 @ clinique.com) – the brand is taking a new approach to mascara, at least the brush is. Instead of the usual wand, it’s a curved fine tooth comb that helps you get every last lash. Love it!

Gimme Life, Gimme Clinique

Clinique-Deep-Comfort-Hand-and-Cuticle-Cream I’ve always been a fan of the Deep Comfort creams and CLINIQUE just added a new one to the line up. I can’t help but think that this Deep Comfort Hand and Cuticle Cream ($17.50/2.6oz @ clinique.com) is just the formula that we’ve seen before repackaged and renamed. My cuticles take such a beating this time of year so I dove nails first into this one. And it’s winning me over but I had to look up the ingredients for the Deep Comfort Body Moisturizer and they are different, phew! This one has added in murumuru, meadowfoam seed oil, gentian root, chamomile and linoleic acid among others that whip nail and cuticles into shape.
