Cybelesays Report on The Makeup Show

Ongina So The Makeup Show is in Los Angeles today and tomorrow. This is where those who work in makeup gather to hear about new techniques, products and developments in the industry as a whole. There were seminar’s-a-plenty like Spring Look Trends and Bridal to Airbrush makeup and FX.

And there were quite a few makeup celebrities in attendance. From Billy B to Scott Barnes to, who I got quite excited to see, Ms. Ongina from RuPaul’s Drag Race. She looked fierce!

Ok, on with the event. This was the first year I went and overall, I thought it was good. For what we feature on Cybelesays.com, I went in search of products that are coming out and lines to highlight. Unlike this year’s ISSE show, I didn’t see a whole lot of new products being rolled out but there were some.

Check out the highlights below!

Top photo of sponsor MAKE UP FOR EVER (would love to have this poster in my house!) and pics of special FX artists showing off their work.

So let's look at some products that got us excited!
  • YOUNGBLOOD's new Mineral Primer (face primer made of minerals? Gotta try this one!)
  • The many sets of MAKE UP FOR EVER's false eyelashes I bought (finally have the application down. More on this in a feature later this week.
  • LUMINESS AIR

So let's talk about Luminess Air! This is the first full range of color cosmetics (eye shadows, foundation, blush, bronzer) designed to be airbrushed on at home. Could this be the new trend? I have used and liked the Era Everyday Foundation from Classifield Cosmetics when it came out a few years ago so I’m familiar with the concept. I watched Luminess Air’s Marc Harvey transform show attendee, Griselda, from everyday lovely to luminous mamacita! Look at the way her skin glows!

I really liked the effect on her eyes. So natural but chic.

Did I end up trying it? Yes, but I forgot to take a before picture so thank you Griselda for letting us shoot a before and after pic!

Since this way of applying makeup seems a little intimidating, they have an infomercial out, which I have not seen. The brand is also sold at your local Macy's, so you know it has to be user-friendly. Check out their site @ luminessair.com to see pricing as it's really not that much for all that you get and let me know if you end up trying it!

Crest Puts Out the Next Wave of Teeth Whiteners

Crest-Whitestrips--Advanced-Seal I got my hands on CREST’s new Whitestrips Advanced Seal ($44.99/14 pouches with upper and lower strip inside @ drugstore.com) just in time. My teeth were in dire need of a pick-me-up and can you believe that we’ve never tried Whitestrips?? Heard all the hype but just kinda didn’t fully digest it. And just like I have read about Whitestrips in general, we agree that they are some of the best teeth whiteners for the money. Each top and lower strip of the Advanced Seal adheres to your teeth so you can just stick them on and go about your business. They even say that it’s okay to drink (no booze!) with them in your mouth. They also say these are a clean removal. Well they do come off with a little bit of prying with your nails so I would recommend you brush after using these as they do leave some residue behind, which is fine. You should see results after using this 3 times for 30 minutes a day but I swear I saw results after just one use. Maybe I was dreaming but I know I’m not now as my teeth are noticably white.

Goldfaden Fights Age On Hands

These days it’s not too much to ask for a product to do more than one thing at a time. In fact, it’s pretty much expected! GOLDFADEN Hands On Anti-Aging Anti-Pigmentation Hand Treatment ($75/2oz @ goldfaden.com) not only toughens up the thin skin on th back of your hands but it also uses retinols and CoQ10Goldfaden-Hands-On-2 to work on those signs of aging. You do everything to fight brown spots on your face, why not treat your hands? The scent? That’s kumquat. You’ve never smelled kumquat? Me neither until I sampled this one and I don’t know quite how to describe it except that it is very pleasant and not overpowering.

And you know when you hear commecials on how something give you a velvety smooth feeling? I honestly think this one does exactly that. Now I know what they mean!! This would get a big fat 10 in our book if it contained a SPF but sometimes you can’t have it all. Otherwise, this is a big recommendation.

Another Winner from Lavanila

Lavanila-Healthy-Candle-2 OK, why is every product in this line a winner? We try out a lot of different brands and quite a few make the site but some of the ones that make the site, just don’t stay loved for a long time. The ones from LAVANILA never seem to tire in my eyes! (the fragrance was featured on the site right before we went daily). The latest addition to the line is The Healthy Candle ($32/11.7oz @ sephora.com). Like their other good-for-you products, theirs are non-toxic (free of paraffins and formaldehydes) and eco-friendly using a beeswax blend that burns clean. Available in Vanilla Lavender, Vanilla Coconut, Vanilla Grapefruit, Vanilla Spice, Pure Vanilla.

It's A 10 IS a 10!

This is one of the few times I agree wholeheartedly with the title of a product. This IT’S A 10 Miracle Hair Mask ($30/8oz @ amazon.com) is a miracle! It clarims 10 things in all:

  1. Detangling

  2. Restores moisture balance

  3. Instantly restores elasticity

  4. Softens

  5. Smoothes

  6. Imparts luminous shine

  7. Enhances natural body

  8. Nourishes

  9. De-frizzes

  10. Improves color vibrancy

You may remember me mentioning this line when I saw it at the ISSE show back in January. I was not able to find out much about the line itself so I guess the products will have to speak for themselves. And this one is saying all the right things! Hopefully I will try some of the other products they offer. Big recommendation.

This Week In Nails - CND Helps Your Fingers Look Longer

CND-Cocoa-nail-polish Last week I was on gold Nail Polish and then this weekend, I had to find the perfect shade of nude and it took that last two days to find the right one. This habit of, I have a shade of nail polish on and two laters later, I’m over it and ready for a new color, has been quite the norm for the past few months, so Ms. OCD (me), searched high and low until I happened upon Cocoa from CND. I am so feeling this line right now! It’s a little darker than my skin color nude and this actual shade was all over the Spring ’09 runway shows like Giambattista Valli, Nina Ricci and and Thakoon, to list a few. Think of it as a pair of nude heels, eloooooongating. $6 @ amazon.com.
