Gift Pick - Now You Know How ... To Blow-Dry Your Hair
Yes, the latest lip gloss and a luxury face powder are nice things to give your best friend but how about something she can really use, like a tool that will give her the know-how to get her hair salon perfect every time? Now You Know How … To Blow-Dry Your Hair ($29.95/65 minutes @ nowyouknowhow.com) is your answer to not only giving something totally needed but also something totally unique. Professional hair stylist, Kimberly Clo, is our guide and she created this DVD to give her clients a thorough step-by-step guide on how they could learn to successfully blow-dry their own hair at home. I’m so glad that I already incorporate a few of her techniques into my drying technique but there were a lot of good ones I didn’t know. One thing she is big on is NOT wrapping the hair in a cotton towel after getting out of the shower. Frizzies!! That will be a hard habit to break but I’m up for the challenge.
The layout of the DVD is well thought out and made a lot of sense. It’s divided in three sections – 1. Smooth, Straight Look, 2. Body and Movement and 3. Blow-Dry Your Own Hair! In the first two chapters, she is going through step-by-step and blowdrying someones elses hair, first smooth and straight and then she shows you how to give hair body. Then in the third chapter, since it’s easy to watch someone do someone elses hair then to replicate it, she actually does he own hair and shows you how to incorporate what she just showed you in the two chapters. And she also gives you some pointers on how to use your body and arms to get the most out of it since most tucker out rather quickly.
This DVD will take you a few watches to have it all sink in as Kimberly really covers a lot of ground but it’s worth it in the long run and like anything else, it takes practice, practice, practice! Basically, if you have the time and patience, you too can get your hair salon fab.

how about a hair color disaster story? It was 2 days before my wedding and I wanted to add few extra highlights to my hair even though I just did it a few weeks prior. How wrong could a couple of highlights go? somehow, the formula my hair dresser used totally fried some of the hair so it actually broke off! I cried at the time but thankfully you couldn't really tell where the breakage was since I had it in an updo for the ceremony. I would love to veiw this DVD so please pick me! ~Nic

Right before my junior year in high school I wanted to return my hair to its natural blonde shade. The stylist applied WAY too much bleach, but my hair turned an orangey color. I started freaking out but he told me that it was normal and he was going to put some toner or something on it to make it a warm blonde. Then, he changed his mind (WITHOUT telling me) and decided I would look good as a red head. Not a natural red, either-think fire trucks. When he was done, I looked like Elmo! And because he'd done so much damage to my hair, I had to wear it like that for a few weeks... just when school was starting.
Another stylist at a different salon decided that he should add red high lights to my dark brown, when I'd asked to go blonde there (I guess I should just stick with a color, but I like to change it every so often!). I looked like an aged leopard! I cried, so the salon owner said he would fix it. Apparently, "fixing it" meant he'd bleach my hair so long my scalp burned and had to have emergency treatments at the salon. My hair and scalp were so damaged I could barely brush without pain, and my hair wound up a terrible orange color. I was also at the salon for 7 hours and they tried to charge me $160!!! I had a date that night, too!

I guess my worst hair disaster was when I decided to dye my blonde hair brown and didn't realize that anything with a hint of red in it would turn my hair orange. Yeah, I ended up with pumpkin colored hair for weeks. Luckily it faded after awhile and looked pretty nice, but I've kept my hair light ever since then.
My sisters worst hair problem was when she was a Freshman in high school she decided she wanted baby bangs and cut them while in the bathtub, using the shiny faucet as a mirror. They ended up being like half an inch long... And I think that was around the time she tried shaving her eyebrows instead of plucking them and shaved them half off... I tried to stop her! I swear!

A few months into my first teaching job, I decided to have my naturally-curly hair highlighted. The stylist did a BEAUTIFUL job. Since I like my hair straight better, she blow-dried it, then flat-ironed it. When I walked into class the next day, the kids' jaws dropped. I got compliment after compliment. I was on cloud nine.
I thought, since everyone loves it so much, I should just go ahead and have my hair chemically straightened, since I can't get it straight myself at home. So I went back to the same salon, the same stylist, and had her straighten my hair. This was on a Sunday afternoon.
While she was blowing it dry, I noticed there was a LOT of tiny little kinky hair falling onto the smock, but figured she knew what she was doing.
After she was finished, it looked funny, but I just figured she put too much product in it, and I could brush it out and restyle it at home.
So I went home, and TRIED to brush it. I got a really sick feeling in my stomach. I couldn't get a brush through it. So I washed it, and while I was washing it, I wanted to throw up. It felt like cheap, fake doll hair. The kind that sticks straight out all over the head. Except mine was stuck flat to my head at the roots, then it turned outward to stick out all around. Lovely. I put tons and tons of conditioner and oil in my hair, hoping to be able to get it back to normal.
Finally, I called a friend of mine (who was finishing cosmetology school) and told her what my hair was like. She told me what I already suspected: my hair was fried, and there was no way to fix it.
I went back to the salon to ask for my money back, and the girl had the nerve to say I ruined it by brushing it. That's when I told her that my hair had started breaking off while she was styling it. She actually put her head in her hands and whispered, "Oh, dear God, why does this keep happening to me?" There was no manager there, and she refused to give me my money back. She said I had to come back on Tuesday, when the manager would be there.
So I had to go to school like that, for two days, after having beautiful hair the week before.
I went back to the salon to see the manager and get my money back. They were so rude and said there was nothing wrong with my hair. The manager said she would re-style it, but that's all it needed. Halfway through the blow-out, she turned the dryer off, put her brush down, and finally admitted my hair was completely ruined. She had to cut it ALL off. I mean, to about two inches long all over my head. Then it had to grow for a few months, then I had to go back to cut it all off again. I had to do that for months until all the fried hair was gone.
It was the worst experience of my life. I never went back to that (national) chain salon, and I NEVER will.

It was the day of my aunt's wedding and I was part of the wedding party. We all went to the salon to get our hair styled and they said that I should get some bangs to match the others, so I did. The lady cut off half my eyebrow some how! Then she told me to just stick it back on with water. I was too young and dumb to complain/ fix the problem properly with a bit of make up so I just have no eyebrow in all those photos

My worst hair experience was when I was in junior high. I had hair almost down to my waist at that point. My mother decided I needed to get a poodle perm, because she thought I'd look cute in that. I told her I didn't want it, but she got it done anyways. They also cut my hair a lot shorter. By the time it was done, it was to my shoulders and very very curly. It looked horrible and frizzy. What's worse, I had to go in to school next day with my hair obviously changed and looking bad. I was made fun of for it for months. It seemed to take FOREVER for the perm to grow out.

As a former professional hairstylist I think this DVD is a fabulous idea and long overdue. I know people get frustrated when they go home and can't recreate the exact style their hairstylist did in the salon. The reality of it is--yes, it matters what brush you use and how you angle the blow drier ;).

I have curly hair and have always wanted straight hair. When I was in High School, I got the idea that I could relax my hair; I would do it myself, it would be easy and cheap. I purchased a box and followed the directions. I left the relaxer on to long and damaged my hair big time. Some of my hair just broke off and looked like I had deep fried it. I had to run to the salon to see if they could save my hair. I had waist long hair and they had to cut it to below the jaw line. The haircut was not flattering and it to a long time for my hair to recover from that disaster.

When I was a freshman in college, by Thanksgiving I was in bad need of a haircut. I went with a friend to her relative's for the weekend. We all went to a place that took walk-ins. This was in the late 80's-era of the big high bangs. I asked for a bang trim, so I could get the height again that I was used to. When she turned me back to the mirror, my bangs were no more than an inch long. I cried. I went to the store and bought the smallest curling iron I could find and that wouldn't even curl them. When I came home at Christmas and my mom saw them, she was appalled. They were still too short a month later. The girl also butchered my bob so I wore my hair in a ponytail for that entire month of December until I could get home and get it fixed. After that, I NEVER got my hair cut at school, always waited until I could come home, and I learned how to trim my own bangs :)

I have two.. and I really couldn't pick from either. First one was when I was a teenager and was babysitting the neighbor kids, well they were cutting paper and stuff and at the time my hair was long and pretty. Well I was helping and then the phone rang. Well next thing I know I hear an "uh oh" as one of the kids came running back up to me and cut of a nice long piece of hair.. nice huh?
I don't know if this beats that but my husband SWORE by his hair dresser at toni and guy. And me well I always had my cousin do my hair who has been doing it for years do it.. but he was out of town. So I decided what the heck? Well I went to get my hair colored by a colorist they recommend, no issues there. And after I saw his stylist, I told her just a trim ya know? My hair was about almost half way down my back ( I was able to grow it out some after the kid incident ) and I don't remember her letting me watch. She was going to make me beautiful! Long story short.. she cut my hair off almost to my shoulders. I almost killed her as I left and didn't speak to my husband who I had newly married for a few days.
I only now go to my cousin, no matter what I trust no one. Oh and I'm dying to learn some good blow drying tricks I always look like a cat who went through a wind tunnel when I do it myself!

Omgosh
When I was young my mom made me a princess hat out of orange heavy paper, it rained, my hair turned orange. I had very blond hair at the time.
When I was in playschool, we had naps, I was chewing gum, fell asleep, mouth opened, gum in hair. Peanut butter got the gum out of my hair!
This would be great to win!
Thanks
